Hey everyone,
I threw together an 8 tank list the other day wanting to play with my dust covered LRBTs. for funsies I played catachan (we also randomly rolled big guns never tire so lots of bodybuilding jokes were made) and now I am hooked.

After tweaking the orgginal list and adding Harker and Straken this 8 tank brigade is ready to rock. The strategy is to blob up and tar pit deep strikers with 3 to 5/model attack infantry. Use the armored sentinels as deep strike deniers, objective campers and Tarpits when the horde of infantry fall away.

A nice spread of tank weaponry for dealing with both big and small threats, Far and near, 3 or 4 tank orders for my 8 tanks, astropaths to beef up and protect damaged tanks who are also striking and shrouding and harker to enjoy the ability to re roll 1s. Straken, the Priest and the Warlord Commissar hang out with the blobs to issue orders and keep them in line and make them redonk melee combatants.

Any tank loadouts i am missing? the Vanquisher is a total trap so lets avoid that nonsense.

Why not have some qyverns and basilisk for the vigilus detatchment with catachans is really strong.
Could drop 2 LR exterminator and gain 2 basilisk/1wyvern with a few points leftover.

Im a big fan of the mobile hard shells 8 tanks is providing. If i want to add artillery im going to lose some of my mobility. If i need to side board a list Ill take 3 tanks out to get 2 Wyverns and 2 Manticores.

Laurels has pretty marginal use on a tank commander, if anything you could try Kurovs Aquila, bit of a gamble spending CP to gain it but may work out. I only see a brigade so just 12CP?

I cant really see the point of exterminators or eradicators. With catachan youll average the same number of hits on a d6 as an exterminator, so a battle cannon would outperform in all areas. For eradicators, executioners are the same cost and a similar case again. Extra ap to negate the cover removal of the eradicator, plus strength to match. At S6 you arent going to be hitting vehicles often with an eradicator so the D3 damage isn't that significant.

Demolishers are also great for catachan. With 8 leman russ i feel like 3 battlecannons, 3 excecutioners and 2 demolishers would be a nice mix. Id have the two demos and one executioner as tank commanders. Regular executioners can hang with Harker to stop overheating.

For general army arrangement id probably go 2xbattalion + spearhead. You've got the hq, a fraction less CP, but you can get Defenders of humanity on the russes in the spearhead. Plus from the vigilus crusade you can take it as an emperors fist detachment. Giving you some extra options there too, improved battle cannon and mobility.

Straken and the priest, i don't know if i could say it's worth it. I think you're Infantry units will take a pounding before things get close. Id be inclined to take mental fortitude on a psyker rather than barrier. Keep your tank shields there or cause a bit of overkill, both are good.

Lastly if you split into the battalions the fast attacks no longer required. But if you want deterrent Sentinels got for scouts with multi lasers. For armoured Sentinels i like Lascannons and try get them into cover. They're pretty hard to move and i think most will already have stretched anti tank against you.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined
