We unseal the mind-melting Cthulhu Mythos box sets and Operation Hellgate expansion book for Dust 1947.

The real problem Mythos has right now is the eleven available units are either low cost/low power, or high cost/medium-high power. Guess that's what comes from using scavenged and field-upgraded weaponry. When the other five Hellgate units are released, however, they should see an uptick (I'm dreading facing the Avatar of Cthulhu my son has on order - WOOF!!).

We've been out of the game DUST Tactics for quite some time, yet I do own some early Mythos units and the rule book for '47. A local store just invested heavily into DUST 1947. and I'm picking up HELLGATE as soon as possible.

Any further thoughts on how this faction is unfolding since the last comments by Carlson?
I'm pretty stoked to jump back into it now that interest is brewing.

After facing off against him a couple of times, I'm finding the Avatar of Cthulhu not as daunting as first thought. I'd misread his Devour skill, thinking he'd be healing as much damage as he caused. Actually, he can only heal as much damage as he causes to that squad, so if he does 10 wounds to a 3 man squad, he only heals 3 points of damage. In light of that, I find Spawn of Cthulhu, with their First Strike rule, to be a much more dangerous foe, as they can swoop in and ginsu your squad before your squad has a chance to respond.

Come Christmas, things should get a bit interesting with the release of the Mythos HQ box. That will include the Cultist Command Squad, Ekaterina & Sabertooth, and Rasputin. Rasputin will be a big boost to Mythos on his own as he will give the Mythos Creatures something they've needed from the start: his High Priest skill provides healing (Close Wounds) and reactivation (Get Moving You Monster). More (if memory serves) , when Rasputin is joined to the Command Squad (via Psychic Choir skill), he's supposed to be able to use both skills from anywhere on the board - plop 'em in your back field, keep some defenders handy, and let your Mythos Creatures go nuts!

Helpful info here, thank you.

Do you still recommend First Summoning box for the Spawn of Cthulhu x 2? It's expensive in dollars, and I wonder if the Rasputin set will make it not so ideal?

Unfortunately, right now the First Summoning box is the only way to get either Spawn of Cthulhu. I'd love it if they split them off, either individually or as a pair. Also, look at Miniature Market - they have the First Summoning 10% off and, since it's over $99, free shipping.

Another thing that throws things up in the air is whether Rasputin will get his own platoon, or will have to try and fit into one of the other two Cultist platoons - either Will of Cthulhu with Lilith or Strike From The Shadows with Ekaterina.
With the Will of Cthulhu, you'll still be able to run all the Monstrous Creatures platoons variations, though unless you run the Avatar of Cthulhu and at least one (as yet unreleased) Spawn of Shub-Niggurath, it's unlikely you'll have the free points to run both Rasputin and the Cultist Command Squad with it.
With Strike From The Shadows, it's possible to run the Monstrous Creatures platoon, but it'd be Aspect of Cthulhu and two Aspects of Shub-Niggurath, with Rasputin and a Cultist Fire Squad filling things out.

The way Dust Studios does things, that's probably exactly what the pre-painted Premium models will look like. Those usually run $120-$135 (in this case, with two normal and a large hero, I'd say $135).
