Here's the start a project that's been on the backburner in my mind for 10+ years - chaos orcs. The fluff is still a work in progress, but I'm thinking that after so many years spent fighting chaos, this particular warband caught the eye of Malal, who decided he'd grant them a few small blessings here and there to help them in their work. Orcs being orcs, they enjoyed getting better at fighting and never really questioned the source of their power/growth/change.

I found a bunch of the old metal minotaurs on ebay for a steal and thought it was the perfect opportunity to begin the horde. With some orc/k heads, and a lot of pinning, they went together alright - but with a bunch of gaps and no necks. It was my first time ever using greenstuff, and I think I learned a bit as I went - looking forward to playing more with it in this army.

The first squad of counts-as bullgors:

The second:

And a group shot:

I'm particularly proud of the second champion as he's by far the biggest conversion I've ever done - although my personal favourite is the plain old drummer from squad 1. There's still a few mould lines & flash points to clean up, and I want to have a second go at some of the necks, but other than that they're ready for paint.

I've also picked up a Start Collecting! BoC box, a bunch of bits and a Savage Orc boar boys box for future work. I hope bestigor legs and black orc bodies fit together irl as well as they do in my head ....

Small update - started work on the gorghon. Going to try and GS him a beautiful flowing beard to cover the neck join. I am really impressed by the size and complexity of this mini - painting him is gonna be a labour of love for sure.

I have done some more work on the bullgors, giving a few of them horns from the bestigor kit, GSing some fur over the wing pins on the back of the bloodthirster-champion's torso (I didn't notice these til I put the photos up here!), and tidying up mould lines/flash. I do love the old metal minis but jeez cleaning them up is hard work. The bullgors are now based and primed and waiting for paint.

Hopefully update soon with more work on the big beasty!

I subscribed to this thread merely on principle - old salvaged beasties revamped for AOS with the application of orc heads! also orcs being run not as orcs! - without realizing that it was you

So color me doubly on board. Lads are looking good, excited to see how paint pulls all this together.

They are looking very nice, and i love the idea. And long flowing beards are always a plus. Looking forward to more.

Love the concept! I'll be eating up anything you post. Chaos Orcs are some spicy boys.

Hah, I love the use of the old Minotaur Lord in these conversions. Awesome stuff.

Thanks for all the comments guys, good to have you along for the ride. Good to see you in here as well Boss Salvage and amazingturtles 8-)

Paint is probably a while off, we are living in temporary accommodation at the moment as a burst water main under our patio gets fixed...hopefully...eventually...after a long, drawn out conflict with our insurance company (day 24 without water already) - but I brought some of my toys with me to keep me occupied. I haven't decided on skin colour yet - whether to stay green, go the easy Chaos route of red, or maybe a white to stick with the Malal theme - will have to do up some test models and see.

Just a small update today - the gorkghon has a beard now, and a test model for the goblungors (ungorblins?) - photos came out terribly, but you get the gist.

I will have to get a photo of the big guy's butt tonight as it is by far my favourite piece of GSing work I've done so far.

I am picking up some bits tonight for $10 that could potentially become centigors or razorgors, so will have a bit of a play around and see what we come up with.

Hahah yes Da Boss - I really, really love the old minotaur minis, and the lord is no exception. He is so much bigger than the others that I was worried it would throw the scale of the unit out but I think he works fine as a champion. The ogroid thaumaturge I'm planning to use as my doombull is a fair bit smaller than they are, though - but will have a bigger axe at least

First centigorc for the waaaghherd - from savage orc boar boys and an lotr worg body.

Picking up a bunch of old metal blorcs and grimgor ironhide this weekend for a steal - to make up bestigors and a beastlord with the last unused parts of the Start Collecting! box.

Plodding along in the test model department - I have 10 piggies from the boar boys, and I’d like 3 chariots, so that leaves me 4 to make into razorgors. This guy has a plastic bullgor head and I think looks pretty snazzy, but I have plans for those leftover Minotaur lord heads too...

Smart razorgor! Appreciate the lack of spikes and nonsense, emphasizes that it's a big furry feth off bull, not mutated whatever the pig.

Gungor looks solid too, sorta savage hobgoblin-esque except with hooves. The centorc I'm less convinced on, because tiny doggo lower body.

That head fits the razorgor so well! It's nice to see your work as always, the beard is as glorious as i had hoped.

Thank you both!

You're right Salvage, I do think the warg is a little undersized, but the photos make it look worse than it is as the orc body leans forward and toward the camera in both shots. I will try and bulk the first guy out a bit with straps/armour etc - the next one might get the razorgor treatment of splitting in half and bulking out with sprue. I also threw together a mock up with an ancient GW wolf model in between jobs today - these proportions work a little better, I think, but the monopose wolf body will limit them to a couple per squad.

No idea why he is holding his spear upside down...but I think in the side on photo the warg proportions look a little more in line.

Also a very early WIP of the next razorgor. this time with the minotaur lord head, and some black orcs I picked up on the cheap to make up bestigors/chariot riders/a beastlord. I was a bit disappointed Grimgor didn't come with his original head, but I will find a suitable replacement somewhere.

First bestigor - holy dooly that took a lot of work. I only had clippers & a file on hand to get rid of his fat orc legs - will have to head back and pick up my hacksaw to do the rest.

After taking this pic I took the body back off and sunk him down a few more mm into the legs as he was looking a bit lanky. I'm out of GS as well, so work on the second razorgor and my centigorcs is on hold for a while. Still, pinning the bestigors together and building the ungors should keep me out of trouble for a while.

Thanks kestral! A definite part of the appeal of the project is ending up with an army that is totally my own.

Got some work done building the ungorblins tonight.

And a group shot of the whole waaaaghherd - or baaaagh? In either case - I need to get painting...but I still have the bestigors to build, and my ogroid Doombull, and my beastlord and my bray shaman...

Baaaagh! Definitely Baaaaagh.

I really like how the ungorblins came out. They look sassy.

Noted and updated I like them too - my fave is the guy at the back holding his bow sidegrip like a boss.

Here's something new - WIP Doombull. Going to need a lot of work as it was a rough cast w lots of gaps to fill. Sorry for small photos, not sure what's going on with my phone atm.

Beastlorc with bestigorc buddies - and a pic of the whole crew so far. The standard and drummer have ancient GW warhorse feet instead of bestigor ones for two different reasons - I'd already stupidly glued the banner on, and the musician's drum got in the way of sawing the lower half. They still need some work to look less awkward. 6 more bestirs to go and I've built everything I currently can! Then there's really no excuse to continue avoiding painting...

Finally got around to getting some paint down.

Now I have never been a particularly talented painter, or proficient/consistent enough to refine my technique - but I do really want these guys to be something I can be proud of at the end of the project. To that end, I've been watching a variety of videos on painting techniques and I've really tried to take my time with this guy tonight - patience was always a particularly weak point for me.

I've just followed a basic flesh tutorial for this guy and swapped the palette. Basecoat of Khorne Red + Cadian Flesh (wanted to use Bugman's but I opened mine up to find it all dried out...) in about a 2:1 ratio, wash with Druchii Violet, reapply base coat, highlight with Mephiston Red + Cadian Flesh and Mephiston Red + Kislev Flesh.

I didn't get it totally right, and there are some points where highlights are in the wrong spots or completely cover the layer beneath (chest & arms in particular), but there are spots that I am really proud of - the face and the right knee weirdly enough make me really happy to look at.

Photographing red proved almost as hard as painting it - the first pics from the shed show the contrast that is close to how it looks in real life, and the bathroom shot shows the face a bit more clearly.

I'm excited to continue work on him - I want to get him finished before I move on to the rest of the squad, so I can see what they'll look like when they're finished - any extra motivation I can squeeze out to get painting.

Another night of painting and the first mini for my new army is done. I am really proud of him - easily the best looking miniature I've ever painted. I still need to do the eyes, but I'm going for a fel green and don't have the right paint atm. There are also a couple spots I need to go over and tidy up (back of the banner, some fur spots that I can't believe I missed...photos are great for spotting those!), but overall I'm really happy.

The pictures have been brightened a little as the originals are quite dark; this was the closest I could get to what it looks like in real life, but if the colours look a little off, that's probably why.

A bit excited to paint some more now!

Paint happens! I really like it, red will make for a nice brutal horde of savages. Also glad you added the horns since your first post, brings the model back to its mino roots and away from the orc side of the family, as well as add additional color to the scheme / connect with the other bone bits.

Excited to see more red happen!

Thanks guys! I love the horns too - the downward curved ones much moreso than the straight ones you can see in the new guy below.

I really love having painted models on the table, but find painting so labour intensive, and my skills & patience so unsuited to it that it's a major turn off. I am looking forward to those new Contrast paints though - maybe they are the holy hand grenade I've been looking for...

I've managed to finish a whole unit. The other two I'm not as happy with as the first guy, but oh well, I think they are a decent standard for an army, and now they're taunting me to do the rest of them, I might actually start making some decent progress (haha - yeah right!)

I'll try and take a few more pics over the next few days but here's one I snapped tonight right as I called it a day.

Thanks turtles I had no idea how to paint it because if they were green it would have been red - thought flesh would be a bit creepy and I'm pretty happy that it fit.

Bit of progress and a lot of photos - next three down, and I've taken some friendship shots of the matching captains/musicians/standards.

I also started work on a chariot using the savage orc piggies and the gorghon/cygor horns...thinking the car will be made from sprue & covered in shields. I have a couple of spare black orcs to crew it as well

There's a bit of modelling work still to do on the doombull, but once he and the chariot are painted, there's my first 500 pts!

Cool stuff!

Great conversions, your greenstuff looks on point. This'll be a fun army to field I imagine.
