Would this work (against non-Knights lists)?

You can take between 3 (3 units of 1) and 15 (5 units of 3) Renegade Armigers, and whatever combination of autocannon or thermal spear / reaper chain-cleaver loadouts. You get a character, warlord, and relic, but would be limited to 3 CP total to spend on stratagems and wouldn't get the Infernal Quest warlord trait (because there are no TITANIC units).

I really like the Armiger models and was thinking this could be quite a fun list for small casual games (because with no TITANIC units people would actually still want to play you).

Thoughts?

How competitive (in casual matched play against other mono lists) would this be at say 700 points (so with two of each type)?

So I'm still getting to grips with my Knights and 40K 8th in general, but here's my 2 pennies.

The Helverins are obscenely good, especially if they're out of range of the enemy, huring 4d3 s7 flat 3 damage shots up the table a turn each, they're always underestimated but output consistent, reliable damage every turn.

I'm still finding the niche for the Warglaives, not played them enough to know what to do with them although a Warglaiv ewill whittle down a troop/elite troop unit with their CCW in a few turns if you need to combat lock a unit, or put the lance into a vehicle then charge it tot ake it out of the firing next turn.

TL;DR I think that Helverins will wear anything down eventually and don't even need to move up the table to do it, whilst Warglaives are a knight that will complement the damage output from other knights and will synergise with other knights rather than stand on their own.

So what do you think about the idea of a Armiger-only Renegade Knights list? Would the Warglaive equivalents complement the Helverin equivalents? Would it be difficult to win objectives with so few units or would their mobility make up for that?

I always take 2 of each. They both have their jobs to do. Their good at doing it. Their manuverability can help with objectives,, assuming it's clear. Not having ob sec is a bummer.

Having measured-up it looks like 4 Armigers will fit in a Citadel Skirmish case

I've just seen your 2000 point list: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/773083.page

You have a similar ratio of CPs to points but an even lower ratio of models to points. I'll be watching the comments on that thread carefully too.

Firstly so I have the option of running them as a support detachment with my Ultramarines, but also because I really like the models. Renegade knights are on a scale from having the mark of chaos painted on them to having tentacles for legs. I'm going for one end of that scale

I guess technically this list should be limited to 2 Armiger units (rule of 2), but you can't get a super-heavy detachment without at least 3. Of course 2 units could be up to 6 Armigers which is more than in this list so I'm not too worried about it being seen as spamming the same unit. At 1000 points you could have 3 units of 2 if you were playing rule of 3. Hopefully people wouldn't have a problem with either.

One thing I'd love to do is create an upsized grot mob. 10 Armigers to be the grots lead by a single preceptor to be the runtherder. A bit of conversion and it would be hilariously fitting. XP But sadly it's just short of fitting in 2K points.

I'm going for a red colour scheme suitable for renegades and imperial knights alike. The main colours will be:

Leadbelcher spray on the main endoskeleton, with a nuln oil shade
Mephiston red spray on the armour, recess-shaded with a nuln oil recess shade and dry brushed with astorath red

Been doing some mathhammer:

Helverin (shooting)
vs GEQ: 14 damage 6 dead
vs MEQ: 9 damage 3 dead
vs VEQ: 7 damage 0 dead

Warglaive (shooting)
vs GEQ: 6 damage 2 dead
vs MEQ: 6 damage 2 dead
vs VEQ: 5 damage 0 dead

Warglaive (melee)
vs GEQ: 4 damage 4 dead (sweep)
vs MEQ: 3 damage 3 dead (sweep)
vs VEQ: 4 damage 0 dead (strike)

Ideally with Warglaives they'll shoot then charge/fight.

Can anyone recommend a good hard case with foam for transporting 6 Armigers in?

I've found this, but it seems a lot just for a foam insert: https://uk.battlefoam.com/imperial-knight-6-armiger-foam-tray-bfl-5/

Regarding cases, I never, ever use pre-made for miniatures cases.
I get a generic tool box that will fit what I need, then I hot-glue strips of AC foam. That way I get EXACTLY what I need at a much MUCH cheaper cost. Like, less than $20 for a 2K army.
I highly recommend this

Regarding the list itself, yeah I think Armigers are great. But I also this you really need a TITANIC unit in the list for the CPs. Since you're doing Renegade knights, I think the dual Gattling Knight is the best choice.
Lots of Dakka to assist the Helverins and a big target to distract from the Warglaives (which should be getting close)

Yeah I'm coming to that conclusion in this instance. The Citadel Cases are great for troops and even standard vehicles like Rhinos, but knights really wouldn't fit well. I'm thinking of getting a Really Useful Box the right size (9L) and cutting some custom foam myself.

I've just picked up another 2 Warglaives and also a Warden. That will take this list to 1500 points:

++ Super-Heavy Detachment +3CP (Chaos - Renegade Knights) [79 PL, 6CP, 1492pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Battle-forged CP [3CP]

Detachment CP [3CP]

+ Lord of War +

Renegade Knight [25 PL, 452pts]: Character, Heavy stubber, Infernal Quest, The Traitor's Mark, Thermal cannon, Warlord
. Avenger gatling cannon and heavy flamer: Avenger gatling cannon, Heavy flamer

Renegade Armigers [18 PL, 348pts]
. Renegade Armiger: Meltagun, Thermal spear and Reaper chain-cleaver
. Renegade Armiger: Meltagun, Thermal spear and Reaper chain-cleaver

Renegade Armigers [18 PL, 346pts]
. Renegade Armiger: Meltagun, Thermal spear and Reaper chain-cleaver
. Renegade Armiger: Heavy stubber, Two armiger autocannons

Renegade Armigers [18 PL, 346pts]
. Renegade Armiger: Meltagun, Thermal spear and Reaper chain-cleaver
. Renegade Armiger: Heavy stubber, Two armiger autocannons

++ Total: [79 PL, 6CP, 1492pts] ++

Created with BattleScribe

The advantage of taking a TITANIC Renegade Knight is that it gets me an additional 3CP and also makes the list rule of 3 compliant too at over 1000 points.

The Warden was a steal - new in box from eBay for £50! The Armigers have each cost £35 per pair, so £155 for a 1500 point list doesn't seem too bad to me

You say that as if it's a dead cert. This could just be new model. Either way we'll find out before I decide on loadouts for the Questoris class knight.

I actually doubt very much it will be a new codex. Index: Renegade Knights was only published in CA 2018 6 months ago (I appreciate it was released as a PDF prior to that too) and that book will still be on sale for the rest of this year...

So I've solved the case issue by getting https://justlasered.co.uk/ to make a custom foam tray for a 9L Really Useful Box to hold 2 full Armiger vehicle squadrons:

The cutouts are 90mm diameter so the deep central layer slots over the top of the Armigers - meaning you can invert the box and they are held in place by their bases. The quality and fit is perfect, and the total price (including buying the box separately) was £27 delivered!

That's a good solution! I've got KR cases but they're a bit bulkier and more expensive.

Yes, it's much more compact and cost less than the BattleFoam insert on it's own.
