I am new to Kill Team, returning to 40k after some 7 years of exile. I have purchased the Theta-7 box and was wondering - the default build (the named characters one), is it viable in a game? Or should I build the models differently and ignore the recommended build?

Gets nothing particularly heinous about the suggested build but there's also nothing especially good about it. Do your own thing.

Thanks. I'm mainly concerned about learning to play the game with a gimped team. If it's ok (does not need to be stellar), I'll just build them as recommended.

I'd suggest to simply magnetize the main guy, as it's very easy with a single weapon option.

The Sicarians are a pain to magnetize, but doable if you are patient (and have 2x1 mm magnets). For the KT however you'd need a single Infiltrator and Ruststalker Princeps, and a single normal guy of each. So you can glue 4 such models and still have one to fiddle around. If you plan to use Sicarians in big 40k, the Ruststalkers will be a waste though - as the completely worthless models.
