So admittedly this should be an Emperor's Children army, but given the new renegade rules in Vigilus Ablaze, and how being able to Advance+Charge seems more in keeping with the nature of my army, I have decided to run them as Red Corsairs.

The plan is to hold the Daemonettes in reserve, using Denizens of the Warp, so really I will start the game with 11 CP. The heralds will hide behind the possessed, who will rush up the board with the fiends, supported by my psykers - the Master of Possession and Sorcerer on Steed will work in tandem - firstly to make the possessed more durable with Cursed Earth affecting both squads so long as they remain within the aura, and Delightful Agonies to buff one squad - and secondly to make them faster and killier. Hopefully I may be able to tie up a few stragglers with the fiends and reduce the overwatch faced by the possessed.

The Greater Possessed and Heralds make the possessed S7, and then in combat using Vessels of the Neverborn they'll be upped to S8 with D3+1 attacks, generating additional attacks against Imperials (my most common opponents) on 5+s. Infernal Power can also enhance their damage output with re-rolls of 1 to hit and to wound.

Meanwhile, I hold down the back and mid-field with chaos marines, with the potential to bring them back if decimated for 3CP.

In terms of character beat-sticks, the DP is a staple of my chaos lists - nothing new to see there. The Sorcerer on Steed with a force stave and with Daemon-Bound Power actually winds up as S9 while within 6" of a GP and a Herald, and with re-rolling damage he could be a pretty nasty surprise if he survives to get into combat.

My local meta is somewhere in between casual and competitive. My regular opponents play Primaris Blood Angels (occasionally supplemented by AM), and Tyranids. All C&C is welcome - I'm still trying to get my head round all the new chaos changes!

Bump. Any thoughts? More daemons? Bigger squads? More dakka?

Looks a fun list to play with enough bodies to hold a lot of the board.

Your possessed get advance and charge from your herald anyway so you don't need them to be in a red cosair battalion. You should run them in a blob of 20, in a black legion detachment. For 1cp give them all the chaos marks so you can let them fight twice for 3cp (khorne strat) plus you can pop veterans for 1 cp. Giving you some effective anti armour (which you're a little short on).

I would also break down your deamonettes into 3x10. You then get 4 more CP in a CP heavy list and you don't have to worry about morale with them (especially as you may be autopassing the possessed anyway).

Finally imo you want combi bolters on all your aspiring champions and a chainsword or chainaxe. You can get the points for this by dropping the ML squad down to msu and 1x missle launcher (presuming it's only there for flyer mortal wound strat).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh also your master of possession probably won't keep up with the possessed very well with double move, double advance, charge and double pile in and consolidate. They'll be up to 50' away!!! More likely up to 40".

You could replace him with a sorcerer on bike, a tzeentch or nurgle on could buff them up further defensively.

Wow thanks so much! There's a lot to unpack there!

I'll consider the Black Legion route - it certainly sounds potent!

Not sure on the daemonettes. I've done that in the past and small units of 10 just die. Which is admittedly what they're there to do - but they melt away pretty horribly, whereas a bigger unit can actually get things done - but then I suppose the getting things done part of the list is the possessed.

Also great point about the MoP - I think maybe another sorcerer on steed of slaanesh is in order - although with what you say about the multi-mark ability it might be worth diversifying the list.

The theme is really EC daemonkin, but because I have found the EC trait to be incredibly lacklustre for me I'm running them as Red Corsairs for more CP and advance+charge.

If you wanted to keep it purely Slanesh themed you could run them as alpha legion. The -1 to hit is useful and the forward operatives stratergem helps get them up the board quickly. Especially useful if warptime doesnt come off or you have the short edges deployment map. I think having veterans available is super useful when you're sinking a lot of points into one unit.

Alpha legion it is then!

Still not sure whether to keep or drop the MoP - I don't as yet have the model but was thinking of converting up one in due course. Some of the Malefic spells are pretty good, but if he can't keep up...
I'm not aware that DP or regular sorcerers can take from the Malefic Discipline can they?

P.S. Love the profile pic - huge STP fan myself. Currently reading Making Money to keep me sane while sitting my finals.

Haha yeah love everything Pratchett. Small Gods and anything to do with the Watch especially.

If you run alpha legion you can scout move him too. Should keep him in range with a bit of maneuvering.

Forget red corsairs go with flawless Host. The daemon characters provide your prince and possessed with advance and charge. You won’t miss the three cps. The elixir/strength/ confidence / prescience is a beast. Gets 3/4 attacks on rolls of 5&6 off his original Str 10 nine attacks. Plus the possessed all get extra attacks on. 6s. You could always throw prescience on them plus whatever else and now they are getting extra attacks on 4s.

Flawless Host is also something Ive been flirting with with this list. On the one hand, it's Slaaneshi and fluffy, it turns my DP into a blender and I can say to my opponents that all my chaos marines are from the same renegade chapter - as they're all painted in a (relatively) uniform scheme and I feel a tad bad about running different traits with what looks to be the same army.

But on the other hand, I lose Vets of the Long War if I go down the renegade route - which I think would really help out the Possessed to deal a bit more damage. With heralds and Greater Possessed and a bit of stratagem trickery I can get them to S8 and with a +1 to wound I can threaten most tanks the odd knights (not too common with my regular opponents).

I like it a lot, best thing about this list is that you're not giving people any easy options about what to focus on. If they ignore your chaincannonns they're getting lots of dakka. If they ignore your possessed they get 60 attacks at str 8 with vets. Your oblits can scout move or deepstrike (depending whether you're going forst or second). And as expensive as they are, tgey really pack a punch now.

I don't think they need an offensive boost really. They'll kill anything they touch, including a knight a turn. But defensively they're fairly open getting chewed up quickly, -1 or other buff will be helpful.

On another note only thing I can think to change up is finding the points to put one of your slanesh heralds on a steed. That 14' move will be needed to keep up with the possessed.

Thanks very much - I was also thinking along the lines of how to present the opponent with a series of wrong choices - but want to keep it fluffy. This isn't for tournament play but my regular opponents can sometimes get competitive - particularly when there is a big grudge match on!

One solution to the herald problem is they could be deepstruck in using Denizens of the Warp - so they don't have too much of a problem with keeping up with the possessed - but I suppose that's not much of a help if I manage a T1 charge...
