My first attempt with air brushing using citadel paints that I’m trying to water down and experiment with thickness. Have a pro master airbrush and compressor. Was going for a metallic purple inspired by the soul drinkers. Had problems getting the PSI right in combination with the thickness of the the paint. I may have been holding the model too close and probably not giving enough time to dry between coats.

Its not bad though the last picture seems to be a bit glittery and the top of the miniature looks dark.

not sure if its the lighting, angle or the photo though.

assuming it is not the photo, you could try and pre zenith highlight it with a brighter silver. (so dark silver base coat, bright silver at a 45degree angle.)

I think most people would brush that small gold detailing on, even if they mainly use a air spray. Not sure though. ( just based on what i have seen )

Can people do stuff that small with air brush?

It's doable, but it's got to be the least efficient way possible to do it.

I can't see any reason not to use a brush for that eagle.

not too bad, the colour looks nice and even.

However, I dont really see the advantage of airbrushing over standard hairy brush for a block colour like that. I'd suggest attempting some more advanced techniques. Maybe try pre highlighting with your metallic over a black undercoat, (or pre shading with black over a metallic basecoat) then airbrushing your purple over the top, avoiding completely covering the shadowed areas. this will give you a nice easy set of shadows and highlights.

Metallic purple/red/blue is pretty hard to do with brush. If he did it right(hard to say from pictures) that purple has metallic sheen that alters the colour depending on angle he is looking at it.

The big advantage is probably that it's easy to achieve a nice, smooth base coat. Zenithal shading would add a lot to it though, and isn't very hard at all.

As above post - I feel like you're not fully exploiting the benefits of an airbrush.

@ Tneva82 - what do you mean metalic purple/red/blues are hard to pull off?

I did all the additional base coats, highlights and shades with my brush. I will say the model has a nice reflective quality that moves with the light. I tried the zenith technique on this aggressor with celestra grey as the base and white scar from the top and zenith.. I am going to do my next layer with troll slayer orange I just don’t know if the highlights will be too subtle to show through. Does anyone know if you can attach an image in a thread reply not just the original post?

Looks good man. You are doing every thing right judging from what my eyes can see.

I’m not sure if I went to heavy on the orange but I don’t think I see the under coat highlights. Also does anyone have any idea how to highlight secondary colors with an airbrush? Troll slayer orange doesn’t cover well as I try to make touch ups

Dude thats really good. Much better than my first attempts. Than again, I doubt you are using a cheapo amazon knock off brush.. What brush are you using ?

To see the highlights you really need to preshade aswell as pre highlight, and even then you will usually need to do some further brush/fine airbrush work to complete your lighting.
