Does anyone have a favorite Primarch that is different from the marine army they play?

This is an easy question for those of us that do not play marines but, I was also wondering if there are any that have a favorite Primarch that is different from the marines they field?

I guess most players in the 40k world would probably have a favorite Primarch. Loyal or traitor it matters not.

Im an admech player, and I am drawn to Vulkan his strength and unwavering faith in his fellow man, I like the silent protector aspect, and as one of the only Primarchs that considered a normal humies life worth something, he gets my vote.

But would I play salamanders, probably not. If I had to pick a marine chapter it would be either world eaters or death guard. and Mortarion would be a close second to Vulkan as his silent suffering and single minded determination appeal.

I'm just Curious.

Edit: the reason I put this in Background and not general discussion is background/Lore is what determines one's favorite. feel free to move mods.

I typically hate marines, but I do like some models, so I collect some deathwatch before they were a codex army; that said my favorite Primarch after listening to hrs of lore is Curze, the Night Haunter; there is so much interesting lore written about him than the others. I’ve slowly starting to collect a few Night Lords models, maybe a kill team someday.

I am a big fan of Curze, always have been. However, My chaos marines have always been Black Legion. As for loyalists, I like Vulkan and Corax. I play Raven Guard.

"Because the Wolves kill cleanly, and we do not. They also kill quickly, and we have never done that, either. They fight, they win, and they stalk back to their ships with their tails held high. If they were ever ordered to destroy another Legion, they would do it by hurling warrior against warrior, seeking to grind their enemies down with the admirable delusions of the 'noble savage'. If we were ever ordered to assault another Legion, we would virus bomb their recruitment worlds; slaughter their serfs and slaves; poison their gene-seed repositories and spend the next dozen decades watching them die slow, humiliating deaths. Night after night, raid after raid, we'd overwhelm stragglers from their fleets and bleach their skulls to hang from our armour, until none remained. But that isn't the quick execution the Emperor needs, is it? The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The Wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always!" —Jago Sevatarion

I have a World Eaters style army mostly, but my current favorite Primarch is Corax. I've been going through the HH (audio)books and he is seems like a good person who is fair, relaxed and interesting.

I like Curze, Mortarion and Angron. I collected Iron Warriors for HH though, as don't like the models for any of them (Curze would be fine if he had a helmet, but that bare head is awful.)

Probably Curze. The idea that he’s basically a crazy Batman who rules through fear is kind of awesome to a comic book fan like me. But I don’t have any intention of playing NLs.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

What? His head is perfect for a crazed looking Primarch, a helmet would only make him lose his crazed looking coolness; the pose isn't half bad, though I wish the bodies are marines or almost unrecognizable broken pulped Dorn at his feet. There is a reason Dorn doesn't talk much, cause even with his Primarch recovery, there is something missing that Curze ripped away with his bare teeth.

So is it actually quite common it seams for people to pay a different marine army from their favorite Primarch,

I was under the impression that if you decided to play marines you would look into the lore to see what each chapter is about and there would be the Primarchs.

Or is it secondary characters like Kharn that determine faction over Primarchs?

I chose Ultras as my 30k army as I can make them look great and so that I don't feel as bad seeing them die horribly.

Although, I will admit it is nice seeing flaws with Robute in the 30k fluff.

Not entirely sure I have a favorite Primarch. Jaghatai would be up there, as would Vulkan and Sanguinius. Perturabo is a bit too cruel IMHO; I would have gone Iron Warriors and gotten his model in a heartbeat if not for him decimating the Legion just because they weren't up to snuff at the time he joined them. I can't think of anyone else I particularly like, everyone else I either dislike or have no opinion of.

my fav loyalist primarch is Gulliman, and I do have a ultramarine army, but my fav traitor primarch is proably actualy Lorgar, if only because of all of them he underwent the most real character development. but my CSM army is black legion

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I play Blood Ravens and I hate Magnus. Partly because I hate the shoehorned "Thousand Sons successors" snowflake angle that should've been left a little speculative tidbit, not a full-blown background point. PLus, Magnus did fething everything wrong and I hate his stupid whiney-ass nonsense.

My favourite Primarch is Sanguinius. He is flawed, but not deeply flawed to the point of villainy or annoying the gak out of me with their angst. Close seconds are Russ, because again, he's flawed but its subtle enough to enhance his character, rather than dominate his personality like with Angron, Curze or Lorgar, GC/HH Guilliman for his depiction in Know No Fear, and Vulkan, because his flaws are also his strengths and I think that's good character traits to have.

@Deadshot, I thought the author who wrote about the Blood Ravens discredited that fluff point?

I have a small Black Templars army but I know very little about Dorn and dislike Imperial Fists as they're a bit bland and I can't paint yellow.

I have some HH Sons of Horus and I quite liked pre-Heresy Horus Lupercal but I think he was a bit of a rubbish character thereafter.

I also really like heresy era Emp's Children but not a huge fan of Fulgrim.

Not sure about that but every fan latched onto it as canon, and the hints throughout the fluff since then have been rife, from the Corvididae Cabal in the TSons and other not-so-subtle hints.

The Thousand Sons character everyone expected to turn out to be the founder of the Blood Ravens actually turned out to be the founder of the Grey Knights instead. IIRC, Laurie Goulding has stated explicitly that the Blood Ravens have no connection to the Thousand Sons.

Back at the topic...

My loyalist SMs are (unknowingly) a Dark Angels successor chapter, but the Lion is probably the loyalist primarch I despise the most. My headcanon is that he's the one the Emperor intended to turn traitor rather than Horus, taking the rest of the bitter misfit primarchs with him. My favourite loyalist primarchs are Guilliman and Jaghatai, but I don't particularly like either UM or WS, mainly because I don't find the Roman/Greek or Mongol cultural tropes (or, more frankly, stereotypes) especially interesting.

On the traitor side, though, Curze is my boy, and I do play Night Lords. Curze is actually the only traitor primarch I have any time for, because at least he's honest about being a psychotic monster who deserved execution. He wasn't a petulant whiner or a pathetic hypocrite like the others.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Exactly why I love him!

If they'd managed to replicate the face in the pencil style drawing of him in the red books, I'd have collected night lords. They just didn't quite get it right for me; his features are rounded where they should have been sharp. I'm not a fan of fw faces in general though.

I play Blood angels because I love the aesthetic of them however I am not a fan of (tragically killed) Sanguinius.

My favorite Primarch by far is Angron. I just can't get behind the massive amounts of spikes and gore on world eaters models.
Lore wise I feel Angron has some of the best quotes.
I've even made my home-brew chapter, the "Iron Avengers", a mix of the two legions.

Lol, like being a massive hypocrite isn't a personality dominating flaw... Sorry, love to hate on Russ fanboys, he is easily my least favorite primarch by far, even more than Dorn.

My favorite primarch is Perturabo (Angel Exterminatus was the sole reason for this), but I don't play Iron warriors. I was actually thinking of starting a Dark Angels army even though I have no strong feeling for or against the Lion.

My favorite primarch is also Perturabo because of Angel Exterminatus. I collect and play Dark Angels.

I play a custom chapter, but like the aesthetics and background of the Dark Angels. Favorite Primarchs is Russ.

I started with Rogue Trader, before there was a lot of depth to the lore, so the look of the models drove my Collecting and learning about the chapters came second.
