I've heard good things about Loke's previous battle mats campaign, and I like the art a little better on this one. This is their fifth KS.

It's a set of *two* 30-page books that you can align as you wish, for about under $40, including shipping, to USA. Each page is wipe-clean.

"Each Book is 1-foot square (12” by 12”), so a one page RPG mat is 1’x1’ (you can use individual pages thanks to the 360° spine which allows the book to fold in half). Open the Book out to a 2 page spread and you have a 2’x1’ playing area (the 360° spine allows the book to lay dead flat). Open two books and they sit flush next to each other (you can even adjust the heights to match again thanks to the 360° spine) and you have a 2’x2’ playing area. Or you can form a 4’x1’. Or you can line them up any way you like! The flexibility of this system is unparalleled!

"The Dungeon is a standalone set, it is also fully compatible with our existing books so you can use them together.

"Yes the pages in each book are different. For the more themed rooms we are doing 4 linked pages (2 per book) of each. Obviously everything lines up with everything anyway so you can transition through however you want but we want to make sure for example that you can get a full spread from "the library". Hope this helps!

Review of their previous Battle Book, which is also available in the KS. IMO, The art wasn't as good, but it's compatible with their books, although the page size is larger. A review said it's too big and floppy for transport.

I just backed this, seems really cool for £25.

Awesome to see them doing more of these. My group has their A4 and A3 fantasy books and they're excellent. Quality printing and binding, nice and sturdy and good variety of themes and aesthetics on the maps.

Might not get these in the short term as I don't use much in the way of extended interior dungeons, but if that's your speed then I can highly recommend the brand.

Yeah, I was thinking of using some of the pages as impromptu back alleys and seedy areas of the city. (: Some pages you can plop down in the middle of your grassy battlemat as a dungeon entrance or random ruins. Perfect for your generic fantasy skirmish game!

What did you think of the A4 and A3 for transport? The review says the books are too floppy to carry around? TIA!

I mostly play at home, so I don't end up transporting them that much, but the A4 at least has been fine on the occasions I've had to, it fits neatly into your typical satchel or backpack and is no more cumbersome than your average rulebook. Sturdy enough that it's not =been damaged or even marked in the 6 months where I've been using it nearly every week.

The A3 I can see being more trouble, but only really from a size perspective. The only way the floppiness would be an issue is if you were carelessly jamming it into a bag to small for it and ended up bending some pages. Most plastic/paper carrier bags are large enough for it, and even if you end up having to carry an extra bag for it, it's not exactly weighty. It is just laminated paper, after all!

They're also undoubtedly easier to transport than any kind of 3d maps would be, so there's that as well.

Thanks!

Hellthing unlocked! Dingy cells next!

BTW, Which maps do you use more? I'm thinking the mundane everyday ones would be used more than the exotic ones?

Yeah, that's certainly true, the exterior ruins, the caves and the plain-ish hallways definitely see a lot more use than some of the more distinct stuff, which I tend to reserve for battles I want to be more memorable or that I've planned to use a certain map ahead of time (like the throne room, or the city square). I think I've used almost everything in the smaller book at this point, but it's the generic stuff that gets used the most, perhaps just due to the nature of the game as much as anything else.

After a chat with the other DM in my group, I think I might well be backing this after all. Between us, we probably use enough dungeons for it to be worthwhile, and admittedly the two-book setup here offering more than just A3/4 rectangular layouts is different enough from the other books to be useful.

Very cool. I was wondering if/when a company will get into neoprene dungeon mats (double-sided etc.) Seems like a solid market.

Just backed.

Really like that last example shot, going from interior to exterior locations is one of the few things that's fiddly with the existing books as the pages are generally designed to form one complete map on a spread, so you end up switching maps completely for that. Being able to add dungeon elements onto the caves ect is another really neat feature that makes getting these worthwhile.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Dragon Hoard tiles unlocked at £35k, next up at £45k is a (genius) set of overlay tokens for doors, dungeon furniture ect.

Latest update also has a picture of all 80 individual pages across the two books.

More unlocks and a new Little Book of Dungeons!

The Little Book is 6" on a side. When folded out, it measures 12", so fits next to the 12" Dungeon Tile. It can be purchased as an add-on.

It's also *free*  with the new Double Dungeon pledge. Twice the price as the Dungeon pledge, but you get the Little Book and *no* increase in shipping!

"Now lets talk about the Little Book of Battle Mats - Dungeon Edition. This is a BRAND NEW book, fully laminated, of corridors, dead end rooms, bridges and entrances to compliment the Dungeon. This will be the same style as our existing library - laminated with 360° spine - and will give you even more options for creating your own dungeon! The size will be approx 6"x6". So suddenly that doorway leads to an intriguing chamber!

"The Little Book of Battle Mats - Dungeon Edition - will have an estimated RRP of £9.99.

"More details on the Little Book will follow this week including sample designs, page numbers and some mock up shots of how it will look in action, I am pleased to confirm the postage rates we have listed will not increase at all regardless of pledge level or add ons. We will be covering the additional shipping costs.
