Hi, I've been playing around with Blue Stuff for the first time for a few days and thought I'd share my experiences. So predictably, my first couple of molds were horrible, and I probably overreached by attempting to mold a full monopose miniature. I tried hand-pressing like I've seen in a few videos, but found that the blue stuff splurged too much to the sides and the pointy bits of the mini punctured the mold. Next I tried using a lego box and I learned my next lesson - not to put too much green stuff in. I felt like I was putting in the right amount, but actually it was probably 50% too much, so the mold didn't close completely and the flashing was very thick.
I finally settled on a method that seems to work well, and I haven't seen this in tutorial videos. After making the mold, I placed green stuff in the (unlubricated) bottom mold, and then press in place the (water-lubricated) upper mold. I then immediately remove the top mold. All the green stuff is shaped and remains in the bottom mold, and I can see straight away where there's not enough putty, or where there was too much putty and it squeeged out. I scrape away this excess, press the upper mold again and repeat until the putty shape is perfect. Finally, I don't leave the upper mold on. I just leave the bottom mold and putty out in the sun to dry. There doesn't seem to be any shrinkage or expansion that would necessitate leaving the upper mold on. Very happy with the genestealer arms that I've produced this way.
