Subject: Dark Mechanicus - How to proxy?

Angry Chaos Agitator

Hi all,
So I've been wanting to start a little dark mech force for a while now, and I've been wondering what the best way to proxy/ represent them is. The way I see it there are 2 options:
1) Go CSM for the demon engines/ demons/ obliterators etc. and proxy Skitarii-types as cultists
2) Proxy them as Ad Mech and get access to a lot more infantry, and live without the fancy Chaos rules
What do you guys think would be the best option? Anyone got any other ideas? I could do a little mix of both but I'd like it to be as matched-play friendly as possible...

I think with all that Chaos has to offer, you really do not need AdMech.
There are even corrupted Imperial Knights so you you are not missing much and the Vex Mechinator works.
The Defiler is an equivalent to their crawler.
You could always kitbash some mechanicus stuff with your chaos so your could create some cool looking "counts as" units and you could bounce around between the two rulebooks.
I think it depends on how much of a corrupted machine look you like: more of a dark gothic steampunk looking tech or more "true" to Dark Mechanicus" where daemons inhabit the machines (machanical daemon skin blend).
I always found the Obliterators fun for that very nature.

Both are good options.
If you go AdMech you won't be able to have anything very Chaos-y. You won't get any daemon engines or Chaos allies.
If you go Chaos, your infantry options become slim, but you get a bunch of Daemon Engines.

Csm soup with renegade knights, use cultists rules but modify skittari for it, warpsmith + Lord discordant for hq, maybee fancy yourself some R&H for slave forces with arty support, of course a kitbashing project but pretty close to what you would want.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |
