This is the list I am building for
this army getting painted.
The idea is based on an 1800ish French or British Infantry regiment with attached armour. The tanks are Tallarn to be able to move and shoot, as the rest of the army is infantry only. The tanks are the main anti-armour part of the army too, hence the lack of sponsors. The scout Sentinels are there to prevent early deep striking too. The Hydra is for anti air cover, as I have no aircraft. I also really like the model.
The main infantry brigade is Mordian - it best reflects an 1800's army. Also the last time I played near 20 years ago, my army did not have overwatch or good morale back then, and was deathly afraid of template weapons. I also like I can use Mordian and use movement trays to stay in a smaller space and still be fluffy.
The 2 squads without special weapons are designed to get out as far forward as possible and delay the enemy. The two squads with
GL's and Plasma guns give some light anti-armour ability with a company commander supporting each squad. The warlord, Lord commissar, astropath and command squad go with whichever squads are going towards the primary objective and act as a counter charge unit. The platoon commander is with the
HWT's.
The Ogryns are the Grenadiers and act as a counter charge unit/reserve. The Ratlings are the Light company and aim for enemy characters.
The three Rough Rider troops can either flank the enemy army, act as a counter charge unit or go for lightly held objectives.
The
HWT's are up the back. I don't expect the Lascannons to last long, but they force the enemy to either deal with them, or avoid them.
The Operative Requisition Sanctioned is a tool for whatever army I'm facing, and will either go for their Warlord, or support the infantry when they get charged by the enemies main attack.
I've only played 1 game of 8th edition, and that was with my 20 year old Steel Legion, so this is a new start.
Should I add a Vigilus variant? I keep going back and forwards between having Bullgryns, a commissar or Lord commissar (with an Ogryn bodyguard) Hunter Killer missiles on the Sentinels, bigger units of rough riders, adding a Valkyrie with some Karskins instead of some of the tanks, or adding vox casters (which will be Buglers, Drums and a Bagpipes, why else is it only 18" range!?).
It's 1750 because one of the
FLGS, House of War, runs a tournament of that size.
