In anticipation of the final wave of the Kickstarter goals being sent out, I've been playing the core game again. I'm very much enjoying the shroom valley expansion (cant remember the proper name right now as I type this).

There is a couple things that really bother me about the game. The Dark Souls series is known as incredibly difficult, but fair. If you spend the hours fine tuning your skills, memorizing attack patterns and the boss tells, then you will be rewarded. I'm not sure that the board game 100% lives up to that standard.

On the note of boss difficulty, this one can actually be heavily in the players favor. For the uninitiated, the bosses follow the exact rules of a randomized deck of behavior cards. I've had nightmare fights where we didnt stand a chance. I've also had fights where the boss aims his attacks at a wall for several rounds while we dogpile that slowed puppy.

In the other direction, the amount of players can make the game much more difficult. 1 player is in for hell, no backup. 4 players, the last player might die before he even gets a turn. (Dark souls has a turn mechanic, where one player gets to go, all the monsters go, then the next player gets to go, then all the monsters again, etc.) I'd love to see some Mathhammer pro nerds figure out whether the optimal number is 2 or 3 based on what classes are picked....

What are your thoughts on the game?

The Darkroot Expansion is the one I'm referring to, sorry.

Well the video game is a very finely tuned machine. Any attempt at translating it to another medium wholly intact is a fools errand.

That being said it does have balance issues. Though I have heard a lot of the kickstaters made some home brew tweaks to the rules to fix most of the issues,

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.
