So, we all know it's Lays-Cannon , but what other words do the rest of you have arguments about and/or are unsure of the correct pronunciation because the English Language is a heretical amalgamation of German, French, Latin and Old Norse.

How is Khârn meant to be pronounced? I am unaware of how the diacritic affects the a sound in whatever language it's meant to be based off.

Aeldari is apparently hard to pronounce for most so I’ll sound it out. Nuh-mber won.

Ae is like the sound in the plural of antenna. Antennae. Which should be pronounced as in "Ai" ("eye") but more often is pronounced as "ee" (because for all the rules English has, it has more exceptions and more people willing to just make their own exceptions).

I've always pronounced Ale (as in the beverage)-dar (as in dart)-ee (as in the hard e sound).

Vin-de-car-y is the latin pronunciation iirc.

Vindicare (Latin: present active infinitive of Vindico, thus meaning "to avenge/vindicate/punish, to liberate/deliver/spare, or to defend/protect, depending on the context)

Everything that sounds English, I pronounce it in English.
Everything that has a hint of Latin in it, or has dubious origin, I revert back to the Italian pronunciation.

Also, frequent is "Alaitoc" being pronounced "Aliatoc" when it's clearly not spelled that way.

I name them as they should read with spannish pronunciation

I purposefully always make sure I pronounce my opponents models completely wrong or off key to confuse them and take their mind slightly away from what I’m doing and the strategic point of the game as they go to try and correct me instead, allowing then to make many play mistakes. Ya aeldari are tricky so.. be careful

I don’t think their are any “correct” pronunciations. It’s such a mish mash of sci-fi ninesense, pig Latin and film/real life inspiration there is no real rules. Even pure Latin is argued about the correct watpy to sound out. It’s a dead language really. It’s a game so we should all do just our best. Also the game setting is so huge so it wouldn’t be crazy to have wildly different languages and dialects out there. So have fun with it. Two people twenty miles apart can fall out about how to say scone or bath in the UK.

If you say “baah al” fast, Baal=Ball.

I pronounce it “bahl”.

My “favorite” (as in I hate it) is when two of my aquaintences pronounce Tzeentch as “chech” or “tizz-neech”. Seriously...The only thing both those have are e’s and ch’s.

They could all work. It's been shown that there are multiple pronunciations for the gods' names based on dialect and languange.

I have a question; is gellar pronounced with a soft or hard g?

You can find most of these pronunciations in the Black Library audiobooks. Gellar from Gellar fields is a hard G. Kharn is pronounced exactly how it looks ('Car'-n).

Even french pronounciation makes somewhat a tiny little bit more sense...

What puzzles me in english is that there seems to be near to no way of guessing how to say what you spell and vice versa.

But I thought that a few names are derived from latin or from biblic names, so it should be possible to find the official
pronounciation of those.

I use the Ferengi pronunciation for daemon - Day-mon.

That is because English is not a language that developed in a structured way. It is a mash-mash of words adopted from all the cultures that have invaded/colonised Britain over the centuries. That's like one of my favourite bits of 40k fluff, just because of the all too real snark in it.

"Translator's note- Saim Hann is actually pronounced 'Sam Hine'."

That translator is wrong anyway. It's pronounced more like 'sauw-in'. 'Sam hine' is some stupid sasanach mispronunciation. ;-)
