Subject: [2000] - Astra Militarum - Militarum Tempestus—Fluffy/Competitivity Post FAQ
My life has been rather busy, so I only have the volley gun squad and both ten man rifle squads done.
I will still probably want to use three Valks.
With Valks, and Scions by extension, being nerfed, I wanted people’s opinions on how this list can stay the same and change. It won’t be done for a long time yet, but I still want to have the idea of what to purchase next in mind.
Besides the Astropaths, I plan a bit down the road to make a Priest, Crusaders, and a Tech Priest or two to be able to augment the list with, but I will otherwise not include any non Militarum Tempestus units or units that lore wise have not been able to go to the Schola Progenium. Also, the Lord Commissar must stay the Warlord.
The main strategy for this list is to take advantage of then talk the benefits of the Tempestus Drop Force. All plasma command squads will be in a Valk, the Volley gun squad with the Field Commander will be in another Valk for an alpha strike. Hot-shot las isn’t as effective with the Valk nerf, but that wasn’t going to kill the enemy, that’s the job of plasma and volley guns. A third Valk with a melta squad is also effected, so now those Scions can’t walk into effective range with melta or hot-shot las. My solution (at the moment) is to keep them embarked so they can drop turn two walk into melta range while also using the Grenadiers stratagem for six Krak Grenades.
The small volley gun squads and ten man rifle squads act as support. These volley gun squads will probably stay with Tempestor Primes and the Warlord (but, on necessity of a game, could be in reserve for support.) The rifle squads will be in reserve to support my army whenever or to capture objectives.
The Astropaths and Officer of the Fleet will deploy in the empty spots in the Valks.
OoF provides buff to Valk weapons. The Astropaths will use their defense buffs, hopefully, on the Plasma command squads (one squad will use a stratagem to take cover).
The Taurox Primes with cannons will carry a Tempestor Prime each, maybe with the previously spoken of volley gun squads, one will have the Warlord to begin. The Taurox Primes fitted for chaff will move in to cut down chaff. I’m hoping the combined power of Chaff-kitted Taurox, Full Volley Gun squad, and the Valk anti-chaff weapons should be enough to clear any screens while plasma, lascannon, hopefully battle cannon and melta the next turn should gut an enemy army. This list will work best getting first turn, no doubts.
