I got my Bones 4 Kickstarter in the mail and added a bunch of the Giant models to my core set order. I want to make an army that uses as many giants as possible and Ogres seem to be the best choice. I have already made up some blocks of Mushroom Men with models from various ranges and they will stand in as my "Ogres" supporting a bunch of "Foresty" Giants.

I know this army list is not going to be top tier competitive as Giants aren't really THAT great of a choice (especially not 5 of em) but it should look nice on the table and be fun! Let me know what you think of the list! I've never ran an Ogre list before so all feedback is appreciated.

Ogres CoK 2019 2000 Points

2 X Ogre Warrior Hordes

3 X Ogre Warrior Regiments

2 X Colossal Giants

3 X Giants

2 X Army Standard Bearers
-1 X Healing Charm

With Clash of Kings '19, Giants (even the colossal giant) is part of many armies, so you're in luck! Giants are en-vogue as of now!

I'm not 100% sure if ogres make for the best army to fit as many giants as you can fit, as your ogre warriors take up a lot of points. If you want your giants as your main hammer, you might want to switch over to a more horde army such as goblins or Kingsdoms of men.

While this is not the most effective Kingdoms of men army, but just to show what you can do with 2000 points:

a) Horde of shield wall (165)
-Giant (190)
-Army standard with Diadem of Dragon kind (80)
-2 troops of militia (50 each)

b) Regiment mounted sergeants (160)
-Giant (190)
-troop polearms (70)

c) Regiment of chariots (115)
-Giant (190)

d) another regiment of chariots (115)
-Giant (190)

e) horde of chariots (175)
-Giant (190)
-Wizard with Lightning instead of fire, inspiring talisman (70)

That's 5 giants, 4 fast elements of which 3 also shoot, an anvil horde; 3 troops of chaff and 2 sources of very inspiring which also can do a little damage.

Thanks for the feedback! I didn't know that giants were so widespread. I thought about running a goblins list for cheaper unlocks but the mushroom man models are fairly large and it would be hard to justify a goblin statline for the models.

Maybe KoM stats would be a little better for representing the models but they are about the size of an ogre.

The KoM list you posted is a lot better then my ogres lis though! maybe I can tweak it to be more competitive

Sadly you're going to need to upgrade two of those giants to colossals, as you can't take more than 3 identical monsters @ 2000 points On the flipside, that upgrade isn't all that painful. As for the question of what army to run, you have some options for armies with multiple giant slots (i.e. so you can run more than 3): Kingdom of Men, Goblins, Orcs and Ogres. I also read a recent tournament report for a Varangur army that had a lot of frost giants + cavern dwellers using giant models, even if they aren't giants proper.

Ogres aren't a terrible place to get your giant on, especially if you also want to get your big infantry / mushroom man on.

Speaking of mushroom men, maybe hunters are better for them? Because pathfinger + smelly ensnaring + squishy 4+ bodies. Also I really rate 'em, although warriors are pretty solid all around:

Hunters Horde - Staying Stone
Hunters Horde
Hunters Horde
Hunters Regiment
Hunters Regiment
Colossal Giant
Colossal Giant
Giant
Giant
Army Standard - Banner of the Griffin
Army Standard - The Boomstick

More mushrooms, fewer giants tho

OH! If you want to use the Goblin list, you could do mushroom men = trolls. That's typically what Goblin armies look like, with troll core and goblin specialists:

Trolls Horde
Trolls Horde
Trolls Horde
Trolls Regiment
Trolls Regiment
Colossal Giant
Colossal Giant
Giant
Giant
Giant
Flaggit on Fleabag - Warbow
Flaggit
Flaggit

Back to 5 giants and I feel good about the mushroom men counting as trolls

This, sir, is epic.

@ for the OP; this would solve a lot of your problems.

That said, I'd probably skip one of the giants (or switch out one of the troll hordes for rable for points) for some of those goblin goodies. War trombones, mincer, etc. But that's a personal prefference, I Guess.

I even built such a goblin detachment for my humie armies, just to get this nifty stuff.

Seriously, right as I was faffing about with Ogre lists ...

Particularly if the OP has more, weird shroomy or forest goblin-y minis they want to use. The Goblin list can accommodate a lot of weird modeling, while also providing quite a few fiddly, effective in-game tools in the process.

Wow really great suggestions everyone!

Right now I've finished 4 troop bases of Mushroom Men but I got excited and wanted to start them and I based them on troop bases for regular sized infantry. I'm asking for some help theory crafting lists because I want to get a rough idea of the army list so I know how to base things in the future. I think the Goblin Troll Mushroom Horde idea from Boss Salvage will be my target right now.

I had to drop a regiment of trolls in favor of a horde of Rabble to accommodate the mushroom horde on infantry troop bases I've already made. The models on these bases are a bit smaller then the ones I'll use for the troll sized mushrooms so it should not be too confusing on the table.

I do think Trolls are a better "Stand-in" stat line for a mushroom man then an ogre. Regenerate makes sense.

I get that the Flagits would hands down be a better competitive choice. But I don't really have many models to represent a "standard Bearer." Finding enough Mushroom Models for an army was a chore in itself and I never found one holding a flag. I also can't get over the idea of a Troll Bruiser standing in as a "King of the Mushroom Men." Are Troll Bruisers a decent choice? It would make sense that he inspires the mushroom trolls then too. I have 15 points to play around with magic items. What items would you suggest?

Theory List
Rabble Horde . - Only unit built so far
-Healing Brew (they are still mushrooms so they need to have regeneration of some kind)

TrollShroom Regiment
TrollShroom Horde
TrollShroom Horde
TrollShroom Horde

1 Troll Bruiser (Mushroom King)
-Quicksilver Rapier (He became king by challenging and killing the former king in a duel)

3 Giants

2 Colossal Giants

Would fitting a 3rd colossal giant in be overkill? I guess I would have to bring 6 goblin regiments to allow the points. That list would probably be pretty weak?

You can pretty much use any single model on a 20mm base, sort of a lesser hero or inspiring mascot type thing, not necessarily a model with a flag. However I do like the idea of the Mushroom King, and I quite like the Troll Bruiser style hero (nimble punchy large infantry heroes are solid in game, as well as look great). The main problem is that you really need Inspiring, and the single Bruiser is only helping the trolls out, not all of those lovely giants that you're basing the army around.

Here's my shot at your last list:

Rabble Regiment
Rabble Regiment
Trolls Horde
Trolls Horde
Trolls Horde
Flaggit
Wiz - Lightning Bolt (3), Blinding Light (1), Inspiring Talisman
Troll Bruiser
Giant
Giant
Giant
Colossal Giant
Colossal Giant

Chaff units are very important in KOW, and at 75 points Rabble regiments seem well suited to most chaff duties, including a) getting in the way of enemy charges and b) claiming objectives so your killy units can go kill things. The horde of them provided a sort of soft anvil but you've got so little inspiring that 19/21 wasn't going to hold very long with that big frontage. The small Rabble units also make the small Troll regiment a little redundant, so I cut it to keep the Troll brick all hordes (as they should be!), and provide some points for heroes.

Speaking of, I added an inspiring Wiz to provide a reroll bubble and toss some lightning around plus maybe ground a dragon or silence a shooty monster at a key moment if you're willing to fish for it, and a Flaggit to run behind some giants and keep them moving and smashing. It's a rough job but somebody's got to do it. Bones IV actually gave you a good pair for these units in these fungus things ...

Fancier cap with jasshands is the inspiring Wiz? And little forelorn fungus boy can be the Flaggit / giant bait.
Would fitting a 3rd colossal giant in be overkill? I guess I would have to bring 6 goblin regiments to allow the points. That list would probably be pretty weak?
The Trollshroom version you're working on here definitely has more variety and more tactical options. Once you play over 2000 points I'd say sure, stuff that sixth giant in

Cool I'll think more creatively about what could constitute a hero model, I just thought it would be weird having most guys troll size but the "heroes" are on 20mm bases.

Thanks for working in the 4 troop bases into your old list thats a real solid solution!

Here are the 4 troop bases completed except for basing. Also 2 Large infantry (40x40mm) bases. I'll probably use one as the Mushroom King

Edit: How the heck does this image tool work? I have a link, highlight it, and click the URL button but it shows up as broken. Link posted if your interested.

I rejiggered my list to include Wiz + Flaggit, the inspiring is going to be really key, and the second Wiz is sort of small potatoes. I don't love Blinding Light but I wanted to do something useful with the last 10 points, and 10 point items are pretty meh, while I didn't want to split into 5 pointers because simplicity / remembering they exist.

Nice progress! While there's potential for confusion with how similar your Rabble regiments and Troll hordes are going to look, the base size is all that really matters, and Height 1 + 2 aren't all that different model-wise. Personally I would have sorted the various fungus into taller ones for the Trolls and shorter ones for the Rabble and reserved larger fillers (like the stuff in the back of the second regiment) for the Trolls. You're probably fine but it's something to consider doing.

Seeing multiple models on the 40mm bases was initially confusing, but the extra bulk to the unit isn't a bad thing, and again, single 40mm bases can only be one thing in the Goblin list!

EDIT:

Looking at the Goblin list, there might not actually be any infantry-sized troops in the list? I think Magwa'ns, whatever those are, come in 100x40 troop size, but otherwise regiment is as small as the infantry options come. So all those split bases are limited utility here - though maybe you're planning on being able to port over to other armies or whatnot down the road.

Yeah I usually build things via Troop bases as its still really easy to move things around the table and It allow me to always have the greatest flexibility.

I made that mistake with dwarfs where I based a horde but realized there were plenty of times I'd rather bring 4 troops or 2 regiments but didnt have models for it.

(.....).

This is indeed one of the best ways to do multibasing. Sometimes it stiffles creativity a bit, but on the other hand, if done well, it works wonders.
For gaming, the option to choose either a horde or multiple regiments or troops is golden!

Here's one of my 'swamp things' multibases of which I'm really proud of.
It's a ruined temple in horde formation, in troops it''s juist ruins.

Heck yeah man since I converted over to KoW from warhammer I've really begun enjoying the hobby aspect of the game. I feel like a kid again setting up dioramas with plastic toy soldiers!

I really like what you did with those ruins. Especially the Chronoeas! cool model and nice scenic base.

Update: Alright Guys I have a final tentative army list figured out and I've put my mushroom giant troll shroom army on bases. I've made a few changes to the previous list as a way to tweak more giant models into the list.

https://kow2.easyarmy.com/clash-of-kings-2019.aspx

2 Troll Hordes
3 Troll Regiments (I was wrong and the mushroom guys I completed and pictured above actual are on large infantry bases, so back to trolls from goblins)

War Trombone (one of the mushroom characters I pictured above is on a 50mm base, he will be a spore shootin war engine)

1 Wiz w/inspiring (the other mushroom character with the staff on a 50mm base will be a goblin Wiz, yea base size will be way off but it will look cool)

2 King on Chariot (I have giant "hunter" models that came with a hound, they need to be modeled on 50x100mm base so I have to take a chariot of some kind. This actually works out because the stat line can reasonably work and I can fit 2 giant models in for the price of 1)

2 Giant

2 Colossal Giant

This will give me 6 "giants" modeled on the table to.

I'll try to get pictures of the unpainted models up soon. Feedback on list? Would you be upset about the kings on chariots being modeled by a giant?

List is good by me King on Chariot is a great unit, Trombones are superb as well. Nice to have a little bit of a shooting game too.

Personally I'd come up with a 20mm Wiz model, should be very easy to do, whether Bones or whatever. Helps him hide, but also ensures you aren't gaining undue advantage on his inspiring.

As promised here are some pics of the army unfinished.

Shot of everything I have based so far. Back Row from left to right is: Giant, 2 Kings on Chariot, 2 Giants (I'll have a spare for bigger games
Front row left to right is: Wizard, Troll Horde (mushrooms), Troll Horde (Giants), War Trombone

The Colossal giants will be Mossbeard from the kickstarter and the giant slug model from Reaper
