Subject: Has a seperate Swap Shop for bits been considered?

Just put a posting on the Swap Shop for some bits I'm looking for, and I was wondering if it's ever been considered to have a separate Swap Shop subforum specifically for bits sales?
Most of the time I check out the bit sites they're sold out en-mass so a dedicated subforum where you can swap bits and components might be a decent idea.

An extra tag in titles could have the same function than a separate forum to moderate.
Another forum I'm on keeps everything in one board. As for bits there's pinned thread for bits trading, though its more about putting together boxes of random sprues and pieces then sending them to each other as a trade. I don't see that taking off on Dakka Dakka outside of specific events or on the DCM board however.

A pinned bitz thread could do the trick.
Judging by what my local club does with our bits, you'd see a lot of posts asking for bits. I think theres a much bigger pool of collectors/modellers on dakka so it would bear fruit more likely. If someone needs a bit and offers to cover postage or trade for something that'd work for sure.
Dakka people are very helpful, kind and like to share is what ive found from experiance.
Had dudes send me stuff and give me stuff for free which is just amazing and I would love to be able to return the favour if someone needs anything I have.

If I recall correctly, we've had the idea brought up every once in a while, though I think the recurring answer has been that we don't see enough traffic in the Swap Shop to warrant the split-up (In similar veins, I think folk have asked to add sub-fora based on game, based on region, etc.).
That being said, it's always worth re-evaluating if the question rises. I'll post this up to the rest of the Swap Mods + Moderators for discussion to gather thoughts, though my guess would be that we would keep things as is.
I believe we've also previously considered a singular pinned thread, but thought a singular thread would become unwieldy and difficult to keep up with (Knowing if things were up-to-date would be a bear). That said, I'll bring up this idea as well.
We'll try to get you all an answer soon.

Hi Jin
Thank you for the response.
Surely we could "trial" a pinned thread? If it doesn't work we just lock it & bin it.
There are bit sellers out there for a lot of stuff but some bits are not available anymore or are a bit rare for them to make it worth while for these enterprises.
I believe with some guidelines we could keep it manageable.
These could be something along the lines of:
Don't scrounge - Buy your bits if you can and are easily accessible. I imagine this would self correct as people would just post a link to an ebay item for the bit if something can be bought easily.
Edit your posts if you no longer need something.
PM the interested party if you can help to hash out the details.
Food for though.

Hey folks,
Sorry for the slow response.
So after some discussion among the Moderators, we've decided that the activity in the Swap Shop as it stands right now hasn't really grown sufficiently to justify creation of a new sub-forum.
Re: Pinned Thread, Ketara actually reminded us that we actually had a pinned thread of "Stalls" as we called them back in the day (apparently it was a while back, because I've completely forgotten in my old age). If memory serves correctly, the folks who posted largely failed to keep their posts updated over time, and overall traffic in that thread declined as a result. It was an interesting experiment at the time, but ultimately was a bit of a failure (which is why it's no longer a thing).
For the time being, we encourage folks to use the normal system and be clear in your titles and in-thread posts about what specific bits (if any) you are seeking to find or trying to offload.
Cheers,
Jin
