Hey friends, it's my first time using transfers (I usually hand paint simple stuff or use 3D icons), and something has happened. For some reason a sort of smokey aura has appeared at the edges in some places, after applying 'ard coat and lahmian medium over the top.
I'd just paint over it normally but I've done a gradient (hard to see in the pic) so that's not possible annoyingly. Does anyone have any potential fixes or an easy way to remove it and restart/ any other advice?

Thanks in advance

Did you apply a coat of varnish before you applied the transfer? The transfers could also be old and they silver more easily.

Looks like the transfer wasn't completely flat when you applied it and you have some air bubbles.

Ah, no I didn't apply anything before the transfer. Does that help it cling?

Looks like you have air bubbles under the transfer, micro-set/sol are great for getting a transfer to conform to the underlying shape without that happening, though it is advisable to varnish the surface first.

Okay thanks, that's good to know. Is there a way I can remove it without dmging the model? Or to fix it?

Microset & Microsol are the answer. One helps you apply the transfer (especially on curved surfaces) the other then dissolves the backing paper leaving just the printed ink part of the transfer.
If you haven't done anything since applying the transfer, like varnishing it, then you should be able to fix it with the above products.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Unfortunately I've added varnish, which is what showed up the fogging so much.
I'll just make sure to use those things on the rest of the models I'm using transfers on, thanks all for the great advice, and so quickly

This. Fething right this.

Microsol and Microset are two small products that are so good that I am kind of convinced at this point that their creation was divinely inspired. If you are putting on decals without these products you're doing it wrong (though Testors does make a decent product, but is nowhere near as good).
the process is very simple to achieve excellent results. I would seriously check out any youtube videos on the subject, there are about a million and almost all of them, if you just search "applying decals" will tell you to use Microsol and Microset.

The best part, they're cheap.

Just don't forget the gloss coat on the area where you want to apply the decal. The gloss coat makes a nice smooth surface for the decal to adhere to. After the decal is placed and the solution is dried, then matte varnish it and done.

Here is what you need, a step by step on applying transfers. This should really be a sticky, the number of times this question gets asked :-)
