Hello Princeps,

My wife just purchased the grand master edition and I am excited beyond all get out to get into the game. I bought the two supplement books and am enamored with the Murder Lords, mainly due to their color scheme.

A couple of questions - any ideas on how to achieve the color for that red trim of theirs? It’s almost a red metallic. I did an experiment with bronze, a red wash, and a red glaze. While it “worked,” it wasn’t anywhere near as vibrant of a red as was shown in the art.

What do you think about their rules? Good? Crap? The static rounds seem cool... but not yet having the full rulebook (set is still on the way), no idea if they’re good or not.

Thank you!

Welcome aboard, princeps!

The Murder Lords' rules are interesting, to say the least. They are not the sort of reliable workhorses that always bring that little extra (like Astorum) nor are they as balls-to-the-walls roided out as some like Vulpa, but more like unpredictable spanners in the works. In that sense they can be thought of like you'd do with Fureans: somewhat volatile oddjobs that can pull off moves that disrupt both players and force the players a bit more on the edge of their seats. Especially their ability to say "up yours" and delete Orders can hurt a more finicky plan from your opponent. I'd say especially Knight lists could be hurting from that, as they need to succeed in a host of Orders to operate effectively before they get blown away in a storm of fire.

On Static Rounds, those are really nice on forward operating Warhounds that hunt targets to strip and thus allow free shots for a melta / volcano armed Reaver in a Venator maniple. Synergy is real.

Personally I'd go for a relatively short ranged mix of weapons favouring meltas and plasma for punching holes into anything that loses their shields on your Static spraying Hounds while running a few into their midst for maximum Order disrupting funsies. Fisty Reavers would probably round that nicely. Just be prepared to use them as tactical nukes 'cuz they WILL be shot to pieces if you push into their faces.

Try adding some metallic medium to a bright red, I got a small bottle from Vallejo and now I can't find it or I'd take pictures.

If you can wait until June, GW are releasing a set of high pigment washes (the "Contrast" range). Testers have reported very good results for the red wash over a good base, making an excellent metallic red.

Can't wait to try these out for myself.
