So I screwed up building my Stormlord (I put the plates in the wrong place and I already damaged the model trying I remove them) and now can't put sponsons on without blocking my heavy stubbers. The best course of action I can take right now is say the broken piece is battle damage and not put any sponsons on. I haven't seen any models of Baneblades without sponsons, but the book says YOU MAY TAKE EITHER TWO OR FOUR SPONSONS which I interpret as meaning that they are entirely optional, is this correct?

They are optional but you should really try and keep the option open to take them. See if you can repair the damage with GreenStuff if possible and look into magnets.

Also, what do you mean by "block" the heavy stubbers? Is it possible for you to move the Heavy Stubbers?

The heavy stubbers go on the rear of the unit on the firing platform, and cannot be moved. If I put the sponsons in the back, the Lascannon would be obstructing the stubber and it would look very pointless.

It may look pointless, however in this edition it would not be pointless. Previous editions used TLoS, 8th does not.

I think you may be able to assemble the sponsons without blocking the stubbers like this picture.

It looks fine to me with the sponsons in the back.

Oh okay, I was assuming that the lascannons were too tall for the stubbers but I can see I was wrong. Thanks!

If I remember rightly, the sponsons effectively hook on, so you can assemble them and then try them in any position along the sides.

I am in the middle of building a Banesword. They ineffectively hook on. But yes, there are four sponson points and any sponson can go on any point.

As for weapon options, it tells you the default weapons at the top of the data sheet and then it gives you options further down. None of the options are compulsory. You may take zero sponsons, two sponsons or four sponsons. Although the kit only comes with two

you can buy a second set from GW. what sucks is you actually have to make 4 panels (2 per side) if you want to run your big tanks without Sponsons

I've messed up models before - luckily you can usually find replacements for the parts you screwed up sold by bits sellers.

I ended up putting some legs on a admech robot backwards. It sucks to have to pay 25% of the price to fix one leg, but its better than throwing it all in the trash.

The kit does assume you will build at least one set of sponsons, yes. Of course you can just leave one panel exposed, but it doesn't look as neat.

exactly...however note that where each sponson would be takes up 2 panels..one top and one outer face. So you would actually need to create 2 panels per side..

Yeah. But to be honest, if you're paying for a Super Heavy tank I think a pair of sponsons is worth taking.
