We have a local event coming up for silly, non-optimized lists. As I already had quite a few gretchin in my ork armory, I decided to build up a 1000 pt force of only Grot units. Not proxies, but an army of gretchin, killa kans, mek guns, and a couple of counts-as HQ units. This means finishing some idle projects, and almost doubling the number of grot infantry I already had. I'll be posting here partly to keep the momentum up

First off, this was an excellent excuse to buy some more Kromlech minis. I'm not getting more than the one squad for now, but I'm just a whore for Kromlech's sculpts. I finished these guys up pretty quick-- just a straight forward assembly and paint job.

Most of the new infantry will be Imperial Grotsmen--gretchin that have taken after their Deathskull masters and equipped themselves from scavenged Imperial kit. Being grots, of course, they have to settle for the least impressive loot: lasguns, scraps of flak armor, and other Guard bits. Eventually the commonality of their equipment does create a sort of fragile and short-lived esprit de corps.

A few of these greenskin wretches manage to scrape together enough armor fragments to become Ineptus Grotstartes. While impressive looking to their weedy kin, their nonfunctional and damaged suits of armor do little for their battlefield survival, and these ambitious gits are prone to being krumped by the first mek or would-be 'ardboy to lay eyes upon them.

Sometimes you gotta make a tool to make a tool to make the thing you want.

Here's a pic of my Li'l Mek in progress. I wanted to mount his body onto a monowheel, like Claptrap from Borderlands. I couldn't come up with a waist joint method that I liked, aside from a jack-in-the-box style cluster of tubes. I'd seen tentacle tools and greenstuff rollers, and figured I'd try making my own.

I have some thermoplastic that is very rigid when cool, unlike oyumaru. I first tried heating it and pressing ridges into it with a toothpick, but realized immediately it would be too irregular and take too long while the plastic cooled. I then glued lots of toothpicks to a scrap of chipboard, and pressed that into the heated thermoplastic. Worked quite well. The only shortcoming is the lack of any built-in guides two keep the two pieces aligned. Eyeballing it and using a light touch sufficed. This let me create a couple segmented tubes out of greenstuff.

Great looking models and a genius way to make a tube tool, just shows again that you don’t need to buy the “proper” tools to get the job done.
Keep it up!

The next batch of Imperial Grotsmen. You might ask yourself, "how is that chainsword supposed to function without any motor or power source?" And you'd be right--it doesn't function. Stupid grots!

And here's my weirdgrot in progress. Thinking of calling him "Thulza Dimm."

The body came from a discount box of Malifaux gnomes ("Explosive Solutions"). Rest are of course regular gretchin/ork bits and Thousand Sons sorcerer gubbins.

The complete Li'l Mek (probably a future mek or grot oiler for standard games). Haven't thought of a name for him yet.

And here's Thulza Dimm.

The very silly tournament has come and gone, and I decided to go back to a project I started at least a year ago.

For some time I'd had a hankering to take a WWI British tank and make some kind of ork vehicle out of it. Then one of my gaming pals bought a Baneblade and built the turretless variant. This left an entire upper chassis and turret that I was able to loot, along with other unused bits. Time to make an ork super-heavy vehicle.

A 1/35 kit was easily a big as a baneblade--though narrower an longer. The pic above is a dry-fitting stage, after the main components of both kits were assembled. The planning phase of an ork kitbash always involves a lot of fiddling about, holding on piece to another and seeing how they look and fit. The top of the WWI tank was flat enough I could mount a superstructure right on top of it. But I ended up splitting the chassis lengthwise and adding spacers to make it closer to the width of the Baneblade's hull.

Assembly begins. Ork modeling works the same way an ork mek would--you just keep adding stuff to it until it feels done. . I also bought a trukk kit to steal pieces from.

Mostly finished assembly. I primed and basecoated the model, then set it aside for quite a while. I've now dusted it off and started painting;pics will be added when that's done!

Kill Tank is almost fully painted. Just gotta add some mud on the tracks and do the final "look for details I missed" inspection. Here's some close-ups on the crew.

I was considering putting a grill over the driver's viewport, but once I had him painted that head had too much personality to obscure.

The driver and kommander heads are from the Wazbom Blastajet kit, which is an incredibly useful source of bits, BTW. Once you've built the flyer, there at just so many leftover weapons, flaps and fins, bombs, rockets, engine bits, pilot and gunner heads...

Big shoota gunner is from the trukk kit.

Mentioned this in comments for the photo, but the grot climbing out the barrel of the hull gun- and the fact that his pistol is bigger than the bore of the cannon- is an awesome detail that adds life and some humour to a great piece!

Another project that was on-and-off for a long time, which I've finally finished. I hate having near-identical models in an ork army, especially for vehicles and such. If I'm going to run three deff dreads, I wanted them to have very distinct appearancess. I had gotten the Sector Imperialis objective set a while back; and though I don't know the specific image, I'm pretty sure I'd seen an "ork brain in jar" model before. The combo was too good not to do.

Once I built and painted the interior of the stasis tube, and mounted the transparent front piece, I filled the interior with a water-effect epoxy, dyed with a bit of biel-tan green wash. I did btest pour first, to test the wash-as-pigment, and as a practice mix; I hadn't worked before with poured epoxy like this.

Really happy with how it all turned out. The top two limbs are magnetized for the sake of transportation and weapon swaps.

I think you should call the dread "the kill tank"

Both are amazing pieces and great paint jobs as well.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!
