I must confess, I've always been a fan of people who have done 'True-scale' conversions, their armies have always looked a lot more intimidating. However, the time involved in converting each one, always put me off, so when these new Primaris Marines came out, it kinda got me thinking...

As a Space Wolf fan, I waited a while, but the range is still quite limited, so I thought, let's just get it on and do some kitbashing and (minor) conversions.

I started my project whilst waiting for some bits to arrive and then I thought, why not make a log out of it. There's not a huge amount of similar logs out there to give me inspiration (or ideas I can just blatantly pinch), so hopefully I can provide some, and maybe be given some pearls of wisdom from you generous folks out there.

Anyway, enough of me babbling, lets get to the pics...

Nicely done. Most folks start with the characters/heroes first but you've gone the opposite route which is refreshing. The free hand banners are a nice touch.

I'm glad you like the banners because my second one is complete;

Hope you like.

No Space Puppy love out there?

Anyway, my bits have arrived and so here is my finished Ragnar Blackmane conversion;

Top knot heresy detected! I'm interested to see how he turns out.

Due to having an abscess, my progress has been slow, but here's an update of Ragnar with a bit of paint slapped on;

The only question is, do I give him black hair, or go the more nostalgic route and make him a blonde?

Since you're doing the classic style free hand banners, I say keep the theme going and go blonde.

Ragnar is looking great so far.
The banners are top work as well, great job on the freehand.

Question - on the Blood Claws/Grey Hunters, do the Blood Claw bits fit onto the Primaris bodies OK? Like the arms/pauldrons etc... or have you bought the Space Wolf Primaris upgrade bits?

I'm doing Black Templars myself and curious if I can get the BT upgrade pack to fit the Primaris frames.

Thanks.

The shoulder pads are pretty much the same size and I find the heads and hands to be fine but the arms look a bit short (makes the marine look a bit stumpy). So I either use the arms from the Primaris kits (either the Intercessor for guns or Reivers for Close combat).

The Reiver close combat arms are not the best though, so I also extend old marine arms slightly too. I do this by chopping another arm (one you don't want to use) into a 'disc', slicing the arm that you do want to use down the middle and putting this 'disc' in between and then filing and using liquid green stuff to blend it all back together. This method is time consuming and doesn't always look the best, but there is only a limited number of good looking Primaris close combat arms out there. :(

I must confess to thinking of going the blonde route myself. Will make a nice contract to the dark wolf pelt.

Nicely done! It's good to see a classic 2nd edition style model and paint job updated to modern standards.

Thanks for the comments guys, I think I will crack on with getting a small pack (5) of Grey Hunters done before making a start on Bjorn.

I'm also contemplating carving up a Land Raider and making one Primaris-sized, though I haven't quite worked up the courage yet.

Also, Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll, do you mind me asking, are you originally Welsh? I can see your flag shows Canada, but judging from the username (rough translation White from the Darkness) I was just curious.
