(Note: this is a follow up to the recently delivered Batman Gotham City Chronicles which is based on their Conan game engine, and lets you pick up the existing content if you didn't get it before, plus the new season 2 content)

Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles is a mission-based miniatures board game where 2 to 4 players control the Dark Knight and his allies in their never-ending battle against crime through an asymmetrical and open game system.

Each game involves an action-packed fight where two sides face off. One of the players assumes the role of the Villain and controls the most notorious criminals of Gotham City. The remaining players take control of the Heroes, who must work together as a team to foil the Villain’s plots. Each side takes turns, pitting their strategies against each other in order to achieve their objectives.

Spoiler:

the minis in the core boxes are spoilered above as I've lifted the graphic from the first KS so the 'stretch' tags are irrelevant

Batman™: Gotham City Chronicles Season 2’s primary focus is Versus mode.

Adventure mode racked up 42 missions in season 1, is still supported with 9 NEW missions in season 2. And, some of the new season 2 characters can also be used in S1 core box adventure mode missions.

Finally, all season 2 characters come with their own tile, opening up a wider Versus mode selection pool for the 10 NEW versus mode missions.

WOW..... Just WOW!!!!

I tell you, THIS game needs a 3D board. One with city Blocks, maybe a tunnel system under Gotham, an Arkham Asylum board, etc.etc.etc…. The biggest beef with the first game was the lack of maps. With this part 2, I see a serious contender here.

Hopefully they can harden up the plastic a little, as well.

But other then one mans opinion, amazing game, and really looks like fun!

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

The game is amazing, real fun.

The season 2 is... lackluster, tbh. Most of the content is for the versus mode (and honestly, good as the game is... for that, Knight Model's Batman is better) and the stuff that is useable for the regular game works for not many scenarios. The fifth player expansion is something I want, but it seems somewhat unsupported.

So, for now, on the one hand I'm disappointed, but on the other hand, well, less money spent

Official 3D boards from another company where teased in the recent Overlord magazine. Will try to remember to take a photo of the teaser when I get home.

Extremely disappointed in this campaign as it’s a third of the contents of the first campaign for the same price. With the new Conan Kickstarter pushed back a year it’s clear they had to release something this year to bring in some money and are just releasing Season 2 in its partially completed state to serve that purpose. It just seems like left over stretch goals from last year, discarded sculpts (like another very similar cat woman and poison ivy) and a few half completed expansion boxes.

I think I'm in for the the League and Squad boxes, maybe a couple of picks from the single minis bit and the maps. Mainly looking at this through the lens of building my collection for KM's Batman game, so it's still a decent deal even if the crazy value of the last one isn't quite there (particularly as we're not getting Stretch Goals with this one, I don't think. Makes sense given the format). £25 for a Suicide Squad isn't the quid-a-mini prices of round one, but still better than the £60+ I'd pay for the same minis from KM.

I've no qualms about actually backing though, the last one delivered right on time and the quality across the board was really solid. With a couple of minor exceptions, the minis look as good as anything KM put out once they're painted up.

I am an all-in Backer from the season 1 KS.

I thought I was going to be all-in in season 2 also, but I guess my FOMO is missing from this one...

- Red Hood alt pose mini is great. Red Hood doesn't use the mini-gun all the time, so I prefer the dual pistols version here.

- Suicide Squad, League of assassins and the 5th player boxes are good: each comes with 3 scenarios, so I'm taking them

- Batman inc. is otherwise a bit uninteresting, but it comes with 5 more bat gadgets. I want those, so I'm taking this box also.

- Sewers & GDPC maps are a bit disapointing as they do not have any scenarios attached. I'm taking them anyway in case they later get some scenarios.

- Poison Ivy box looks cool, so I'll take it.

- Gordon Batman and the robot suit look great. Am taking them.

I will also take a scattering of pickup figures that interest me most:
- Gang of Robin, Hounds, Talon, Owl man and Hawkfire. I'll take the MR.Freeze also because of the dome hat this version has (the original version should have had the dome hat in the first Place)

Not that interested in the other figures. If the updates on them show some nice gameplay effect, I might take some more.

I saved €105 by not going in with the all-in...

I guess I'm happy enough with the season 2 loot. I just hope the new maps will get a few scenarios down the road.

I haven't played the VS mode yet, so I don't know if I will be playing it or not. I guess I should play a test VS game to see if I like it or not (I did get it with the last KS after all).

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.

We weren't even testing for that.

I'm sadly underwhelmed by this one after being all-in on the first. I've gone in for 7 euro and probably won't look at it again until the PM is about to close. Might pick up a small amount of stuff.

I was an all in backer first go around, figuring that if the game sucked I could always use the Knight Models rules. Fortunately the game is pretty good, but have to agree with everyone else being mostly underwhelmed by Season 2 and especially the pick em section.

I’m going to wind up picking up the suicide squad, league of assassin, 5 player, and map sets, but I’m not going to spend $7.50 U.S on a board game figure when I can get higher quality Knight Model box sets for about that price per figure from online discounters.

I really feel like they missed the boat on this. If they had offered more bundles with figures at the $2-3 price range (the price per model in their box sets) I think there would be more excitement. For example they already have a few crime bosses in the pick em set. They easily could have made a organized crime box set with a couple of scenarios. In a similar vein I wish they could have released more groupings of figures that went together. For example I like Etrigan, but no Jason Blood, or Morgaine Le Fey, or Vandal Savage? I was also really hoping for a royal flush gang, along with a number of other common people from Batman’s rogues gallery that are missing (Nyssa Al Ghul, Count Vertigo, Kobra).

Yeah, I agree with you on them missing the boat here - and apparently so do more than half of the backers for the campaign!

I'm not at all deep into or knowledgeable about the Batman lore (I was largely into Marvel heroes, growing up - and later got into stuff like DC-Vertigo rather then DC heroes) but I'd happily pick up a lot more (or all) of the Pick N Mix models if they were in sensibly-priced thematic bundles (ideally with a map and scenarios included).

So with that, I'm interested in the Suicide Squad, a maybe on the rest of the "large" (ha!) expansions, then maybe Ivy and a check on a couple of the bigger name pick n mix models to see if I already have them from S1 or not. Because at that price I probably don't care enough to pay for dupes of existing characters.

I backed all in for Season 2, but after looking at what I really wanted and what I would use I only needed to pledge 160.5.

I did the suicide squad, league of assassin, 5 player, and map sets, poison ivy and a handful of the pick minis.

The all in just doesn't have much value at all and considering you can only use so many figures in the game there is no point of going all in.

Definately wanna thank those here for helping me see that and saving some money.

I'm sort of coming round to the same opinion; while I know the quality will be good and it'll deliver on time, there's only a handful of things here that would actually be of use to me. I'll get the Squad set, and a couple of the single minis are awesome, but there are plenty of things there that I'm thinking I'll just get from KM; slightly more expensive, but no waiting a year and a more complete selection in some regards (the League of Assassin minis in GCC for instance are cool, but barely match any of the BMG profiles).

All told, I'm probably going in for around £30 rather than the £100 I was originally planning for. It's a shame, as if they'd perhaps waited a bit and come up with a more traditional campaign structure that mirrored S1 in terms of content and added value via SGs, I'd have no qualms about going in more heavily.

I'm personally not worried at all by the complete lack of stretch goals. Especially since we know that they are often pretty much fake in kickstarter campaigns anyway. My issue is with the lack of comparative value compared to the first season. S lot of those pick and mix characters could have just been bundled together and maybe they wouldn't have had the total price of season 2 being as much as it is but hey that's not a problem. For us backers, at least

I played yesterday my first game of the VS mode. It was a fun game, so now I don't feel so bad that the new maps are for VS game only. Now I know I will get some use of the new maps straight out of the box (instead of having to wait for somebody to do a scenario that uses them).

Since I like both the adventure mode and the VS mode, I'm good with what is offered. The PZ models are still a bit too expensive, but I will get the 3 gangs (Robins, doggies and Dragons) at least.
