Been Around the Block




inspired by feedback on my existing lists, I decided to split this off as it seems like it might be a good next list (I don't have most of it yet). This is largely based on the idea's of others so more feedback welcome.

Fateskimmer to buff LD's
LD's to move rapidly up the board, and can advance, fire flamers, charge in the same turn (why I made them red corsairs, bad idea?)
Pinks to provide chaff and board control.

Take “Field commander” for -1 cp and make one LD your second warlord and give him WL-trait with 6” aura +2” move for Daemon engines. Can’t remember the name of it but it’s so good.

Remove the blue horrors but don’t add anything so you can split your pinks into blue ones. Deep strike one unit of pinks for 2cp (yeah, it’s expensive but good) and save one or two blue horrors for that unit. DS in 9” away, cast “flickering flames” for +1to wound (wounding a Knight on 5+), shoot like hell and then charge stuff. If or when a pink dies in overwatch, place the blue horror closer to the enemy so you only need a 6-7” charge.

Only remember that the Changeling only gives a 6+++ to MODELS within 6” and not units.

Last but not the least. I like your list and think I’ll try it, minus deffys cuz I do not own any but got venomcrawlers and maulerfiends.

I'd drop the flamers and lascannons of the defilers, they combat much better than they shoot (yes I know base 4+ for both)

Field commander... That documented in vigilus defiant? If you give this list a try let me know how it works out.

Yes, it’s from vigilus. It’s a good book for us CSM players and bring some more needed and funny tools to the table.
I’m going to try out a newer list with both Daemon engines and some shooty units With legion trait “the purge”.
Engines charge up and the purge shoots things and gets reroll if the enemy unit already have lost any wound this turn.

You might say that why not only go “the purge” then for more and better usages?
Well I might later on but they have a fun stratagem that allows you to shoot a unit even if it’s in close combat. So with all engines to tank, charge and killing in close combat you have a backfield shooting army.


I’d only had one chance to play in a while but I did try out a list similar to yours.

2 LD
2 maulerfiend
2 venomcrawlers

And some shooting CSM

It was vs Necrons and did all right. I ended up winning with both maulerfiend, venomcrawlers and a LD alive end of T3.
Maulerfiend and LD charging or trying too charg T1 was fun and not something my opponent anticipated they could. But with my good luck, I did fail warptime, bad advance and failed a 5” charge so I only managed a T2 charge with you should calculate after as well. LD is a real monster in cc, the maulerfiend needs LDs buff or (or both) daemonengine stratagem for more accurate hitting in cc.
Venomcrawlers was actually kinda meh, they moved up and shooting T1-2 and I did plan on countering a charging enemy unit and blocking space to my backfield and they did just that, but did not bring anything but a dead necron warrior or two every shooting phase (yes I forgot stratagem).

With all this I’m trying a very similar list with horrors and one or two epitome herald. (New Slaanesh mirror hq) they lock stuff up in cc if they fail 3D6 under Leadership test. This and engines and “the purge” but I might try to much as its hard to find points for everything.

Hopefully any of my ramble will make any sense and I’m happy if I can help with anything.

I've thought about a similar list with flawless host LDs, getting extra attacks on 5+ (3 extra attacks with the warlord trait). Purge Deredo dreadnoughts and a slanesh supreme command. Problem is you can't take horrors or plaguebearers (my orefered troops) as you want to keep the daemons mono slanesh (to get the advance and charge aura on the LDs). Which leaves you with cultists, daemonettes or csm as your troops choices.
