So.....

Pros:
-Death Stranding looks fun and unique...sort of.

Cons:
-Lots of "Game Franchise: Part "X""
-Almost every game is some kind of scruffy combat shooter,
-A "new" console.
-Nothing on Starfield or TES6 (BUT YOU CAN GET BLADES ON THE SWITCH NOW!! AYAYAYA. /sarcasam)

The Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, and Boulders Gate III are literally the only things that caught my eye. And even these barely caught my attention.

I feel like the industry has finally hit rock bottom.

The Industry has either hit rock bottom or you've perhaps changed and drifted from what the big names in the industry provide.

Must admit I've not followed it closely as I tend to try and avoid pre-release info as much as I can, I find it reduces the disappointment when the final version hits and they've made changes to how some core elements in the pre-view were described.

That said Baldurs Gate 3 is a massive bit of news and CD Project Red are wowing people with their new Cyberpunk game featuring Mr Anderson (yeah I can never spell his real name....)

Yeah I was pretty underwhelmed with most of what I saw. I mean i'm hyped for Doom cause the last one they did in 2016 was pretty good. All the mobile games crap I couldn't care less about. BG3 looks promising but no gameplay means nothing much to be excited about. Same with Halo infinite. I am intrigued by the Elden Ring game, simply because I liked bloodborne and DS3 so much and i'm hoping this is like an evolution of that style of game, it looks new but I got that good familiar feeling.

And a lot of the good stuff seems super far out, Doom ain't even out till the end of the year. Plus baldurs gate 3 was not announced for consoles, and i'm not about to go buy a gaming PC anytime soon.

The industry looks great to me. Cyberpunk 2077 is looking amazing. The game play trailer last year had me excited, but now with big names getting involved in the acting side I am even more excited.

The announcement of Baldur's Gate 3 is pretty great. Excited to see how that is going to go since I liked both of the Divinity games.

Death Stranding still looks like hot garbage from a guy who regularly puts out hot garbage and tries to play it off as edgy and cool.

Elden Ring looks very interesting and was a great announcement. Curious to see what those two working together can do, even though they are both fething sadists.

Bethesda had already said they were not going to mention TES6 or Starfield at E3 so I knew that was going to be a shitshow.

Nintendo is coming up and they are rumored to have some major announcements. Ports to Switch incoming, new games being announced, and of course new SSBU Characters on the horizon. Also the whole thing with them getting real buddy buddy with Microsoft here lately, so VERY curious to see what that is going to bring to the table.

Seems like only a bad year if you are not interested in these things. YMMV but definitely the only E3 I have paid attention to in the past 5 years.

Honestly the Switch is fast becoming a very powerful thing in its own right - all the power of mobile gaming (something that consoles have actually lost in recent years - you can't just take it round a friends and plug and go) all the strength of a standard console and al ot of PC and console ports as well as a big back library from Nintendo.

I don't own one yet but I have to say of all the higher priced consoles its got the biggest potential library for me. Nintendo has really got a gem in the Switch.

You will be pleasantly surprised to know that Microsoft and Nintendo are looking for a partnership to get even more games on that bad boy.

I'm not calling you out or anything. But it is always so interesting when I notice things like this.

Cyberpunk looks boring, bland and uninteresting to me. CD Prokect Red has always been an over hyped, untalented studio to me.

Meanwhile, I've loved everything Kojima has ever done and hold the opposite opinion. Life is strange.

I have spent more time in CD Projekt Red games than probably any other single player franchise. Their games are consistently good, they are great at immersing you in a world. They make amazing soundtracks and they can provide a crazy good environment to play in. The stories are fun and mostly the characters make sense, as do their motivations.

Hideo Kojima makes weird games with weird characters for the sake of being weird. Each interation makes less and less sense and he cannot decide if he wants to kill off his protagonist or not. Also, why is Snake full on tacticool and Quiet runs around in a bikini and pantyhose? But yet, probably one of the pastiest characters I have ever seen in a video game. Including Geralt of Rivea. The man has no consistency and imo, he is really bad at creating a great and immersive atmosphere in games. He just wants to be weird and it is frustrating, because his games have a LOT of potential to be great if somebody would just stop him and say "Hey, knock it off" or provide even a little feedback. IMO Konami pushing him out was probably one of their best decisions.

Why do you find CD Projekt Red to be an over hyped, untalented studio and why does Cyberpunk look boring, bland, and uninteresting to you?

Also, the FF7 Remake is definitely not the same game. You should look in to it more. Same story for sure, but wildly different combat systems, more depth to character and story lines, and more depth to the world in general. FF7 was a very limited game because of its time. They are getting the chance to flesh it out instead of just remaking it in HD and move on for easy money.

Yep and that's fair and perfectly normal. You've not grown beyond games just into something else and games are to one side. I dislike the notion of growing beyond or past or such because those suggest that in some way the previous interest was "lesser" and whilst that can be true for the individual, its not true in a generalist sense (and honestly most often its not true for the individual anyway). I also hold that view because many times we go in cycles, a previous hobby loses its luster and no matter how great its developments it lacks appeal*. That's just change in a persons self and situation. Heck give it a few years you might well swing around and find PC games great once again, or perhaps a studio makes something that resonates with your particular strongest tastes in games.

The only downside, in my view, is when a person fails to see this change in themselves and tries to doggedly "work" at enjoying a hobby or pass-time that is no longer as interesting to them. I've seen people get bitter, angry and even hostile about it. Frustration bubbling up in them that can boil over and sour their attitude and relationship to the hobby and even to the community and themselves. Far better to respect the change, to put it to one side (perhaps put things in storage) and then move onto something new and fresh, or a past interest from long before. Many times a simple diversion "recharges the batteries" so to speak.

Heck myself I've had periods where I've had less or no interest in models and just put it all to one side and perused other interests. A hobby should never be treated like a job and to do so can take the fun out of it.

* Your comment on CD Projeck Red is a fantastic example of this, in my view. Though I would understand your viewpoint well if you'd only tried Witcher 1 where the story was good but the combat clearly a little on the clunky side (esp compared to many more modern games); but Witcher 3 is a massive step forward.

Yeah, but from what I've heard the battery life is kinda bad. Everybody I know who owns one says its maybe an hour tops. They'd need to get it up to a couple hours for it to really take off.

Depends on the game it is running but the minimum I found online is 2 1/2 hours and maximum being 6 hours.

Edit: I mean, if we are talking about The Witcher combat, the second game was a MASSIVE improvement on the first and it was still a little frustrating. Just as long as it wasn't some weird rhythm game. IMO they got it nearly perfect with TW3.

Because since 7, six of the FFgames have been utter trash (FFX is a masterpiece also & maybe FFIX/FFXV were decent)
Do we need another Lightning Returns? Answer me god damn you !!! Do we!? Do you want to bring that into the world? How would you look our children in the face!?
Seriously though I'm hyped but I understand where you are coming from.
I probably replay FF7 at least once every 1-2 years (mostly when I get bed ridden by a flue or get a couple bonus days off and the GF is away seeing family or something).
That's just because the new stuff that's on offer falls into the pitfalls of micro transaction "open worldness" where actually you just do the same 4 activities 100's of times at different locations. Yeah the graphics on offer are beautiful and impressive. the gameplay is mad smooth and fun which is obviously enjoyable. But so what? I like me a good story.

At this stage I will take something that's been remade and is a masterpiece over something that's 'new'.
There's plenty AAA games that have less story than FF7 had on disc one.

It wont be the same game. The technology that's available now is laughably better than what they had in the 90's. The game play graphics are better than what the top end CG could offer back then...I'm sure there will be tweaks and they wont stay to the letter. For better or worse there will be changes, this is pretty obvious from the trailer.

The FFVII remake makes sense for two reasons -

1.) There are a lot of older fans who are nostalgic for the game. You still see people using Cloud or Sephiroth as handles in games, while you don't see that sort of thing for other characters like Cecil or Golbaz.
2.) There's a good story there, and there are now a lot of people who've never played the game. One of my friends who had played the game in the past liked to pull it out and replay it every now and again. But his girlfriend refused to touch it because the graphics were so blocky. She had no nostalgic connection to the game, so she wasn't willing to overlook the game's visual shortcomings. These are also the kinds of people who might be drawn in by the rerelease.

Note that I'm not planning on getting the rerelease. But I understand why SE is doing it.

As for the rest -

Different people like different things.

Controversial opinion here: FF7 is hot garbage and JRPGs are mostly not even actually games.

Let me explain.

1) Cloud is a bitch. Every person in that game is a bitch except Cid who just really wants to go to space and thats great (and Barret... hes pretty cool too). The whole game is following around a bunch of whiny loosers who are all so full of their own gak.

2) Games have game play, which are a series of interesting choices. Interesting choices have consequences. JRPGs are "games" where you do random battles that you could beat blind folded by spamming the "fight" button to break up the monotony of walking to the next boss fight so you can watch the next cut scene. Any fight which could have interesting choices (like the bosses) can be circumvented by out leveling it making it not interesting. You make no interesting choices, there fore it has no game play thus it's not a game. It's a visual novel with interactive elements.

A FF7 remake will make a bunch of money off a bunch of suckers bleeding nostalgia for something that was always crap to begin with.

There are choices within the game. They don't affect the greater plot, and I'm not going to get into them here (you can look them up if you're genuinely curious). But there are a few small sections of the game in which your earlier actions have an effect on what happens on-screen.

Controversial opinion:

FF7 is an RPG masterpiece of its time and you'd only think otherwise if you have no soul.

Let me explain.

Some people enjoy a narrative story in their games rather than getting a small hernia in their hands on the controller/bottom bashing/repeating the sme light attackx4 followed up by a strong attack and god mode trigger options or scraming at the screen while getting shot 15 times in a 5 min FPS round etc...

Some people don't mind getting tricked into spending 60£ for a AAA game with repetitive 4 quests giving the appearance of open world and having zero actual story or character development. Some people don't look for that in games and that's ok. Each to their own. Just look at how many people play fifa….

Also I don't believe about your claim. Please play the game and only you se only the attack button. Please do it and time it. I want to see how long it take you to complete. That way we wont have to see your obnoxious comments ever again.

Upgrading your weapons isn't an interesting choice. One is clearly better then the other. You put on the best equipment you have at any given moment.

Lets remember that squaresoft (or did they merge into Square enix when they did this?) is the company that introduced an auto fight mechanic into their games so that the combats would play themselves for you because they were so monotonous that they thought they would give the "players" a single click button to skip them while still reaping the rewards.

It doesn't have to be twitch shooters to be "game play".

Chess has game play. Tetris has game play. The orientation and placement of every piece has consequences that makes your every action a interesting choice.

Stories are fine. Great even. Nothing wrong with playing a virtual novel with interactive elements. It's just calling it what it is. I just so happen to think FF7 is a crap one of those.

Edit:
Also, to anyone saying you would love to see it happen. Go play FF8. Get squall killed and then have the rest of your party fight. The monsters levels are directly tied to squalls level to attempt to "scale" the game to the players. Squall will end the game at like... level 10? (And thus every monster and boss in the game will also be level 10) while everyone else could be in the 70-90s. You can one shot the last boss with the worst weapons in the game.

You can one shot the last boss with the worst weapons in the game.

haha yeh…But we are talking about an era where you could cast regen, kill last enemy and open the disc cover before battle finish sequence began, regen full health then close disc cover and carry on... Also there were cheat discs you could bu in a shop that would elt you have sephiroph in your party I never said FF8 was good, by far one of my least favourite.

Anyway that's all well and good but we were talking about FF7 purely on its own merits at the time. As I said most of the FF games are trashfire tier garbage. Sadly.
I can see why you are calling it a novella, they did not have the capacity to put voice acting in a game that size so there is a feth tonne of reading...like a looooooot of reading. The first thing you end up doing in a new game is jacking the text speed up to max (which you wont know about when you first got it ) and not everybody 'reads good'.

People now cant get into it because you have to read and the graphics are terribad compared to what came since. Its understandable.
Bottom line is I think the limitations it suffered due to the technology it made up for in raw story telling and gameplay - yes game play.
Because what can you compare it to from that point in time?

Only MGS comes to mind - Another outstanding game. You had to change controller from port 1 to 2 when fighting mantis etc. what sort of madness!?
Alas I digress. The remake should be good to see if they can offer the same level of story telling backed up by state of the art game play and graphics.

P.S. Apparently there will changes to CID character... He wont smoke, hit shera or curse and be angry macho man swearing at everybody :(
Apparently its not suited for the modern snowflake audience.

What are you fav 10 games ?

Look, you can like the story. Like what you like. Just like I think the story is crap. I dislike what I dislike. FF6 (3 here in 'Murica) had a far better story with a far better cast of characters who were not all a bunch of whiny little gaks. Also, sephiroth is a incredibly over valued villain who did nothing of consequence. Kefka actually won, became god, and ruined the world.... at the half way point of the story. When the heroes win in FF6 they win back the broken ruins of the world to try to rebuild. If you want good story telling, go look at that one. I am not worried about the graphics. I enjoy Dwarf Fortress. A game with no graphics to speak of (It's all in ascii). Graphics has no true bearing on how good or bad a game (or virtural novel) is. Voice acting also has nothing to do with it. I can, and gladly, read. Reading isn't an issue. The characters suck. Their motivations suck. Their dialog sucks. The world is semi interesting. The actual opposition is a bunch of anime nonsense that is powerful for because. The materia system is an upgrade to 6s esper system. Thats all it's got going for it.

I stand by my statement that FF7 has no game play to speak of. Minigames within the visual novel don't count.

Top 10... hmmmm

No particular order.

-Darksouls 3
-Mario Party 1(the original on the n64)
-Witcher 3
-Alien Isolation
-Castlevania Symphony of the Night (Probably the game I have beaten more than any other)
-Metro 2033
-A wrestling game on the N64 (don't care which one. They were all great)
-The Gameboy Harvest Moon (I don't know why. That game rocked)
-Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice (for the way it handles it's subject matter. The game is legit art).
-And... I dunno... A rogue Like? Deadcells or Rogue Legacy? Something with a lot of hard game play and replayability.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

It's too bad Final Fantasy 1 wasn't the final fantasy. All of those games are boring as sin. the only one I enjoyed was 8, and even that was a chore to dredge through.

The last game I legitimately enjoyed playing was Fallout New Vegas

The only good thing about 8 was the Ragnarok. A red dragon space ship is the best airship any of those games ever had.

Indeed. Will have to agree to disagree on this one.

I've played all the FF games..Completed 6 at least twice. It really doesn't hold your hand at all and is pretty hard.
Oooh strong list. I must have put over 200 hrs into Dark souls 3...Ended up with a weird gargoyle hammer build which works surprisingly well. Its great but often became about who has slightly less lag/better connection when skill evens out.

Mine would be something like:

FF7 & FF10- Obviously
MGS - The original and guns of the patriots
Tekken 3 - (But any of them really)
Rome - total war
Never winter nights 1&2
Fallout & skyrim - because they are pretty much the same thing...
Armored Core - Any of them.
Lineage 2 - Lets not speak of the youth this game took from me...
Pokémon games on the Gameboy - All of them
Dark souls 3

There is a lot of information out there on FF8(my favorite of the main series) but not a single person claims it is tied to Squalls level. What I did find was it scaled off your parties average level in the game and there were two mentalities on beating it. You could sandbag and not level much to keep the random monster levels down but you would run in to the bosses who had static levels not based on the average and abuse the junction system for power.(which was the true broken part of the game) or you could grind up and outscale the bosses and then just have to worry about the random mobs throughout the game. But it appears it does not work as advertised here.

FF8 offered easy mode - Max HP up on squall(later on evrybody else) then keep them around the 25% mark and just press O until limit break appears and just limit break everything into oblivion.
I didint like it beause all of the characters & NPC's were Humans. There was no veriaty for me and the story was meh.

Back on the topic of E3...

Apart from already mentioned FF7 Im also hyped about Doom eternal. Looks like heaps of fun!
Other than that there didint seem to be much else to get excited about for me so overall bit meh.

I think a lot of the developers held back as the next gen console is just around the corner. (Bethesda elder scrolls 6 & Starfield being one of them)

Well, looks like Nintendo runs the best E3 presence once again.
