Hey everyone,

like many I used to play warhammer fantasy, but sold my entire collection when I had a rather long hobby break (yeah, stupid move...I know). Now I'm thinking of starting again, but I feel I dislike a lot of models as they are way too over the top. I have no insight in the AoS rules whatsoever apart from browsing the allmighty interwebz.

So, to my question: Is a necromancer themed army consisting out of skeletons, zombies, gravequards and black knights viable? I'm not saying tournament-winning-viable, just hold-up-against-friendly-lists-viable. And more important, is it too limited to be enjoyable?

Thanks for your replies

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like soup. Now you put soup in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put soup into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now soup can flow or it can crash. Be soup, my friend.

Legions of Nagash battletome, using Grand Host (for lord of nagashizzar command trait) or Legion of Sacrament (for casting bonus). You'll have no problems doing what you want to do.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Thank you! I'll look into that

Yes. Legions of Nagash army is incredibly strong right now. You can play a debuff list with neferata at the helm. An outflank list using Manfredd, or a casting list using Arkhan. Either way, large blocks of skeletons, grave guard are very strong. And for a measily command point (of which you auto generate one per turn) you can summon an entire unit back that was slain. Necros can make them attack twice in one turn.

Black nights do VERY well in a death march list where they get a bonus move, on top of their very fast movement. This is good combo because they do butt loads of damage on the charge.

Cool, thank you. I'll aim for an fluffy version of those, but nice to hear, that I will be able to get a decent army out of those choices!
