Freezing to death outside the Fang

Need a bit of list building advice. I’m now in possession of 6 jet bikes, 3 outriders, 1 land speeder, 5 ebon keshig, the Forgeworld cataphractii praetor and a leviathan with 2 storm cannons and am planning on adding 10 regular cataphractii. What can I do with this to make a good “take all comers force”? I’m used to running hordes and tanks with the VIth so reduced numbers and bikes are a bit alien to me.

Freezing to death outside the Fang

So this is what I've planned so far. Does this look like a decent start for an all-comers list? (everything is bought but not built) Is it worth putting melee weapons of the bike sergeants or the phosphex on the leviathan? I also feel the need for a second HQ, should I go with a librarian on jetbike/bike or a warmonger with the terminators and praetor for some deep striking rather than using outflank?

Chogorian Brotherhood requires your Warlord to be mounted (and the Librarian doesn’t count - Support Officer rule). It also penalizes you if you lose all your bikes or jetbikes (we’re all assuming they meant “and”, not “or”), which you will, because you hardly have any.

I don’t think Cataphractii on foot really work, whether outflanking or deep striking. Everything that isn’t immobile can and should run away from them. They’ll need a Spartan, Kharybdis, or Land Raider Phoboses (with divided squads). The only thing you can count on is a good round of shooting. Also, if you haven’t built them yet, I’d give them a mix of close combat weapons - they don’t all need chainfists, and a couple of single lightning claws would be a good idea.

It’s not so bad with Tartaros, though you could always give the Ebon Keshig a (non-dedicated) Dreadclaw. Not a big deal at 2000 points.

Leviathans also struggle on foot because of their short range, but it’s not so bad with that shooty loadout. Not very fluffy if you run Chogorian Brotherhood, though. How did the Dreadnought get there - by running? Right now you have more of a Pride of the Legion list, imo.

Don’t forget that plasma cannons can’t fire if they jink; that’s why you don’t see them often on jetbikes or land speeders. Lots of people take plasma on infantry, though, since the cyberhawk lets infantry (on-foot infantry) reroll ones to hit. By all means try your loadout, but… magnetize, in case you change your mind.

Sky Hunters are arguably being misused if you do anything but shoot at infantry from 24-30” away before zooming for a late-game objective (not enough offensive melee power for the points), but in smaller games like this I can understand needing them to be versatile and having meltabombs. Plasma outriders are fine, if expensive, as 3-man harassment squads. I like bolter outriders as large melee squads with meltabombs and as many power weapons as you’re allowed to take. Consider going that way if you grow the army into the Chogorian Brotherhood RoW.
