Hey, the PC master race seems to be filled with lots of hyper in detail kinda stuff that eludes me. £100 mouse etc. And i need a new one, that isn't £100.

My mouse isn't fuctioning correctly anymore after 7/8/9yrs or however long. Not registering left clicks properly despite a strip down with clean, and clean driver installs. MS mobile wireless 4000 mouse...

This mouse is small, and it appears i "claw grip" it. I want to know if there's any way to know if i'd benefit from something else, bigger/palm grip style? -or feedback from others that have changed between the two styles.
The mouse has rubber grips on the sides, which i find many mouses don't have, or even palm rubber grips, a strange prospect to me. Smooth plastic seems like an odd thing for claw gripping.
And playing without the use of a mouse mat also seems strange. I feel i need a mouse mat to rest my wrist, and not be resting on a cold desk in the winter either. This appears common for players not to use them?

I've never used middle click, as use the side button as a stand-in for that. But that's probably due to the mouse size. What i also find weird, is that many mouses have their side buttons in the centre-ish of the mouse (looking at the pics), so i would have to bend my thumb to use them, as opposed to my thumb being in a natural extended position already on my current mouse.

While this forum area is also about keyboards, why do the gaming keyboards not really have wrist rests? This seems very bizarre to me as i love mine on my MS 3000 v2 keyboard, which also has left side buttons for zoom and out, which i'd be lost without. And i've not seen any gaming keyboards with additional buttons on the left, which to me would be the best place given WASD is all the way to the left.

So people, any advice, care to put me straight or show me the light? Or any other information?

I'm sure whatever i get i'll be happy with to be fair. I've only ever been disappointed with expensive products (and not cheaper ones) as they tend to boast more than they ever deliver.

Thanks in advance!

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I'd say if you're used to a small mouse and "claw grip", stick with that unless it's not comfortable for you. RPS might be getting a bit up themselves as of late, but their hardware lady is usually fairly reliable - RPS - Best gaming mouse 2019.

The thing about wrist-rests on keyboards is they're a preference thing. I can't stand most of them, they make my arms hurt more than just using the keyboard on its own, so I use two small individual gel-filled contoured pads, so any integrated rest is a negative for me, and even a detachable one is adding an expense I don't want or need to the pricetag(not that I use one of those atrocious "gamer kool" keyboards with the 'orrible clickety-clack cheap sounding mechanical keys and design aesthetic that looks like it came out of a 90's Saturday morning cartoon - give me my Realforce 87U tenkeyless in all its office worker grey Topre switch glory any day).

You can't really go wrong with any optical mouse. Gaming mice just have more buttons usually. I have a Corsair Sabre, Logitech G503, and a Logitech G703. The 703 is wireless, which I'm currently using with my laptop setup in the living room. When I eventually go back to my office downstairs, I'll go back to the 503, which by many on the internet (myself included) is quite simply one of the best mice ever made. You can't go wrong with logitech G series mice; they offer a wide range of prices and abilities for a variety of needs. My mouse straddles the claw and palm grip, and I'm happy with it.

As for keyboards, I'd highly recommend going for a mechanical keyboard if you can spring for the extra cash. Corsair makes a keyboard with function keys on the left that you can program for whatever you need. I used to use a K70 for a while, but upgraded to a Ducky One Two, though my laptop has a built in mech keyboard, so I'm typing on that for now.

If you're committed to having function keys on the left, you're relegated generally to 'gaming' keyboards, which are usually more expensive and less quality oriented than a traditional mech keyboard. For example, my Ducky was cheaper than the Corsair, but the Ducky is significantly better build quality. The trade off was that the Corsair has better built in programs to customize the keyboard (both are RGB) and the Corsair also has an amazing volume roller rather than the two keys I have on the Ducky.

It's all about personal preference, because your bog standard optical mouse is pretty much bulletproof in terms of working as desired.

Personally, I like a mouse with some heft to it, as well as a heavy mechanical keyboard, so I have buy Steelseries products. Solid, heavy and built to last. As to wrist wrests, you can get a piece of dense foam rubber that's better than any 'attached' wrist rest IMO.

Thanks guys, really insightful info. I'm fine with my keyboard atm as it still works, but will look into the wrist rests for curiosity sake. Still browsing the mice, what a way to spend a few hours on a day off

Considering going very budget right now, and get something blutooth (which is the only downfall off my MS mouse as otherwise i'd buy another, as the wireless range is pathetic and i use a usb extension cord). But also considering wired atm.

Looking at the Steelseries' mice, how's their software?

Whichever you get check amazon warehouse deals there's normally quite a few high end mice on there because nobody wants a £100 mouse in a damaged box.

I got a wireless logitech g mouse reduced from £125 to £75.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

Very programmable. I'm not playing any MMO/FPS right now, but if/when I do my Rival 500 will be ready.

Thanks for the additional replies, i took it all into consideration before i purchased my new mouse.

With overwhelming positivity about Logitech G series mostly everywhere, i finally bit the bullet and went for the G305. And i must say, i'm quite disappointed. And the sad thing is i knew i would be. I've dabbled in a few interests and read about how people rave about qualities on some products and how "highest number = better". But often found myself being underwhelmed with one thing or another, and genuinely questioning something you get shot down by the horde without explanation.

The sensitivity, software and wireless response is very good, but the general feel of the mouse is cheap, oh so cheap. The build, the clicks, the roller, everything about it feels incredibly poor, it even sounds weak on the clicking.

Normally i don't buy from Amazon, but seeing as they were selling at £35 for new and can return without issues i thought i'd go there.

So any other input from anyone? Is this just the unfortunate case that all the gaming mice will feel all like this? I'm only using 6250 DPI, but have messed with Windows mouse options so could probably go lower even, and i use mouse acceleration cause i'm a noob and all that

Thanks in advance!

One thing that bugs me are the super clicky mechanical keyboards that everyone seems to love these days. I prefer small, quiet laptop-esque keys. Probably since I'm on a Mac all day at work, i'm just more used to their style of keyboard.. so I have a similar one at home and I find it perfectly fine for gaming or typing. Long story short just stick with that is most comfy for you
