Im buying a knight with the new codex and I want opinions on the power of a double gatling cannon. Is that pretty hardcore? I dont want to build anything hyper meta, but its such a cool aesthetic. My back up plan is a double thermal cannon, which conversely to me seems REALLY underpowered. Is it a happier medium than it looks on paper?

The twin Gatlings are a great choice, but not OP. They're limited to only 1 damage, which cuts down their lethality vs heavier targets quite a bit.

double Gattling Cannons are definitely a very competitive option, though a strong argument could be made for gattling cannon + battle cannon, since if you're an infernal house you can boost your strength to 9, so you wound enemy Knights on a 3+ instead of a 4+. Keep in mind that it looks like the Knight kit for Chaos comes with neither of these guns, and you'd have to buy them on ebay.

If you want a balanced loadout, the trusty Gattling Cannon + Thermal Cannon is always reliable.

Theyre Damage 2...

twin gata has for a while been the "gold standard" for chaos knights.

With the new codex though, I'm not 100% sure its still on the top.
It defiantly didn't get any worse-but it didn't get substantially better either, while other loadouts have.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

This. And they can now trivially be made Damage 3 via the Infernal rules.

Add Trail of Destruction, and they'll actually out damage, on average, an equally buffed twin Thermal Cannon setup vs say an enemy Knight outside of melta rule range, and are only two wounds behind (if memory serves) within it.

Not to mention their obvious utility against hordes.

To say they are our best weapon is an understatement. Not that the others are terrible choices, they're just either far too swingy, or no where near as versatile.

I think im more just scared of bringing something identified as 'cheesy' to normal games, and twin gatling can come off as REALLY cheesy, no matter how 'pretty ok' and not 'god tier' it actually is. Im leaning towards a thermal / gatling set up now, would it be worth bothering to get a missile pod, or should I keep it cheap?

Never worry about that. If the people you play with can't hack it ot's because THEY suck not because of anything you did.

You can only apply the infernal buff to one gun at a time though, at it does cost you d3 mortal wounds.

I'd still stick to hybrid builds. especially for infernal's who's entire shtick is versatility.

So, taking a clearly allowed option (that even had its points increased recently) is cheesy?

What kind of scrubs do you play with? No offense to them, I'm sure they're fine people, but they don't seem like very sporting opponents.

There are heaps of "cheesy as feth" legal options spread across Warhammer 40K. Only the OP knows what kind of environment he's gaming in.

So uh, turns out I don't actually OWN a gatling cannon anyways, and im getting a paladin box so uh...Yeah. Looks like that option's been out from the start. Crap.

Wouldn't the Heretic Knight actually be the Anti-Paladin, or the Shadowknight?

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

The word you are looking for is blackguard. at lest according to DnD.

Anti Paladins are also a DnD thing. And probably a better fit for Chaos Knights. Though that's an argument for a different forum!

I like taking the storm spear missiles. It's cost effective and a good way to mitigate bad thermal rolls

Double battle cannon is less cheesy because its still strong, will do work against a lot of stuff but it has the rng built in to reduce the cheese.

How do you actually buy/build double gatling cannon without going third party. What do you need to buy for it?

@OP:

You have to ask? Double AGC is the only sensible loadout for a a Renegade Knight. Just imagine the amount of dakka you can dish out.

Any two of the Imperial kits will do it, but you will also have a second Knight!
