After running Irusk2 in Winter Guard Kommand for some time (the list of reports are here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/772733.page), I have decided to change into a new list where Vlad1 has the privilege of using two Gun Carriages. I have actually been playing it for some time, but I refuse to report on it until I actually manage to paint the whole army. This is now done

I have managed to get quite a few matches using this list, and plan to get many more. Instead of making a new thread every time I do a battle report, I have decided to make just one thread and add battle reports as I get round to writing them up.

The current version of the Vlad1 list can be found here: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/07/winter-guard-kommand-under-vladimir.html.

A summary of more that a year, almost exclusively playing Winter Guard Kommand can be found here: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/05/a-year-of-playing-winter-guard-kommand.html

A discussion of the most recent, post Quality of Life Update list can now be fund here: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2022/01/winter-guard-kommand-under-vlad1-post.html.

Battle Reports:

  • Against Goreshade4 and the crazy elves: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/07/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. Vlad manage to pull of a beautiful assassination.

  • Against Gearhart1 and the Crucible Guards: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/08/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. Fast and brutal. Just as Vlad likes it.

  • Against Harbinger and the fanatics: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/10/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. Vlad really rules the battle field, until Harbinger pulls the Hail Mary of this century.

  • Against Harbinger again: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/11/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. Harbinger learns why you do not want to be at the receiving end of Marauders.

  • Against Butcher3: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/11/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_18.html. Vlad shows how a Gun Carriage can carry out sneaky assassinations.

  • Against Orion1: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/12/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. It is clear that man still rules machine.

  • Against Siege1: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/12/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_8.html. Siege is out played and looses on scenario.

  • Against Sloan1: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/12/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_22.html. Slow and steady will eventually win the game.

  • Against Strakhov1: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/01/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_26.html. Vlad! Don't move!

  • Against Irusk2: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/01/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_30.html. Discipline beats madness

  • Against Goreshade4: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/02/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. This is what happens when you are without a plan.

  • Against Harbinger: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/02/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_15.html. Harbinger, once again discovers how far a Marauder can actually travel

  • Against Vlad1: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/02/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs_28.html. Again, Vlad! Don't move!

  • Vlad goes to a five-game tournament as his last stand: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/04/last-stand-of-vlad-and-his-valiant.html

  • Vlad goes against Kaelyssa1: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2022/01/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html

  • More battle reports to follow.

    Until next time.

So, two new battle reports in. One against Gearhart1 and the Crucible Guards: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/08/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. Fast and brutal. Just as Vlad likes it; and one against Harbinger and the fanatics: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/10/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html" target="_new" rel="nofollow"> https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2019/10/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html. Once again Harbinger is back. I think she's got a crush on Vlad. She keeps coming back for more. Unfortunately, this time Vlad (and his Marauders) will be doing all the crushing.

Orsus (in his 3rd incarnation) has gone into one of his tantrums. He is convinced that Vlad and his Winter Guards are not loyal to the Empress. I guess he haven't heard about the engagement - or perhaps he has... Vlad contains the tantrum by demonstrating how to apply a Gun Carriage as a sneaky assassination tool.

Once again Cygnar are trying to move into Khador territory. This time, Sloan and a load of shooting 'jacks are moving in. Vlad and his Winter Guards are dispatched. They demonstrates what a group of determined Winter Guards can do to claim and hold the battlefield. In a long and bloody grind.

Wow. What a game! I do think you are right that Sloan should have focused on the Marauders first over the Gun Carriages. The more I use my Marauders in the post Oblivion themes... the more I love them.

It has been quite a while. Yet, Vlad is finally back. Strakov and somebody claiming to be Vlad's ex is attacking him and his famous Winter Guards. This battle teaches Vlad one thing: "If you are in a happy place, stay put!".

More trouble in Khador. Irusk is leading a bunch of homicidal maniacs against Vlad's valiant Winter Guards. Despite Irusk's huge and very cool flag, he has to admit that his normal procedure that discipline beats madness is still true. Unfortunately for him, this time Vlad represents discipline.

Once again Vlad is called into action. The crazy elves, led by Goreshade are at it again. This time, Vlad or the guy behind the lines (more likely) is either distracted or down right silly. What should have been an even match, or perhaps even in Vlad's favour, turns into a demonstration of what happens when "you have no planTM".

Harbinger is back. She has developed an unhealthy passion for "piston to face". Vlad and his trusted Winter Guards are more than happy to oblige by demonstrating exactly how far a Marauder can travel.

It is chaotic times. Not a lot makes sense. This time Vlad is facing Vlad. Clearly we are talking about Imposter-Vlad moving into Khador territory to disrupt the peace. True-Vlad are obviously called upon to clear up any confusion.

Unfortunately, True-Vlad has a really bad day. What initially seems like an OK approach turns into a nightmare when he (again) wanders off. This time Behemoth says thank you and demonstrates why Vlad in general should be more careful.

    Vlad is at it again.

I have been playing Vlad and his valiant Winter Guards for more than a year. It is about time to move on. I think he should go out with a bang. I went to a five-game tournament, and I thought it would be fitting to led Vlad play all games as a last stand.

This is a slightly different battle report. I am reporting on all five games at once. You can read all about it here: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2020/04/last-stand-of-vlad-and-his-valiant.html

I will write up a summary of my experiences with the Winter Guard Kommand list soon (I hope). So, you can expect one last instalment.

    Thank you. It is appreciated.

I think I might have a look at Wolves of Winter, as I managed to almost finish painting it. I have also accidentally acquired som Protectorate, who really would like to return to the Motherland as Warriors of the Old Faith. I could also be open for suggestions.

Warriors of the Old Faith probably gets my vote, since it's a smaller niche and has interesting casters. Alpha strike dependent armies can be kind of disappointing to play / read about tho, and I think that's what WotOF is about, with all the ponies ... (I've almost never seen the theme in action so don't know!)

WotOF is less about getting the alpha strike and more about board pressure. The threat ranges aren't really that crazy, but the turn 1 run across the center line doesn't give your opponent much table to work with.

I can dig it, was going by what LOS bulleted out While I got you, is Reznik2 terribad? I'm always fascinated by the engine warnouns, and honestly forgot that's where Reznik pokevolved to.

He's got some cute tricks, but he doesn't have some of the tech that lets him be a real bully in WotOF. He shines a little better in a Menoth where he has a little more defensive tech and more guns to make use of Spellpiercer and his feat. I did pick him up to test out some niche Khador tech with him. Curse making Khador jacks RAT 6 seems interesting; I'd particularly like to see how he works with Decimators, who seem pretty mean with a pair of boosted RAT 6, POW 17 shots with beat back. It makes for a slower gunline style rather than a board pressure list, but I think it can work, particularly with Reznik acting as a MAT 9, POW 14 WM anchor.

I have to admit that I find it much more fitting that the people who got let astray by the Protectorate find their way back to Khador under Vlad3. So, that is who I am going for

IDK, Kreoss and Reznik are born Khadorans led astray as well. Seeing them come home is a nice win.

That said, since the Khador exclusive toys really aren't that great compared to what the Menites bring, Vlad3 has a lot more unique interactions than the Menoth casters that probably make him the best choice overall. He's also my favorite character in the game, so...

I would have put money on it that you'd be running your boy Vlad, Igor I was just curious about Reznik, having never seen him do anything on a table - similarly Kreoss3 and Feora3 are pretty unknown to me, but not as rare as the chariot.

After, almost exclusively playing Winter Guard Kommand for over a year, logging around 50 matches I have managed to write up a summary, an evaluation and some thoughts on the WGK in context. I might have turned out to be somewhat longer than I initially expected. But, here it is. I hope you enjoy it.

    Vlad might be back!

I have always enjoyed the simplicity of the almost quintessential Khador list, which is Winter Guard Kommand under Vlad1. The recent Quality of Life Update has made som minor changes to my classic double Gun Carriage WGK list. So, I thought I would write up my thoughts on what is changed and what it does to the list.

The result can be read here: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2022/01/winter-guard-kommand-under-vlad1-post.html.

Vlad might also be taken for a spin again soon.

I have to admit that I'm a bit rusty. It was a good game against Kaelyssa. You can read all about it here: https://greylordarchives.blogspot.com/2022/01/vladimir-tzepesci-dark-prince-vlad1-vs.html

Being almost completely immune to Menoth and Legion assassination runs is definitely a fun new trick for Vlad1.
