A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH. |

Yeah, if it wouldn't be too much of a PITA I'd be really interested in reading how you achieved the purple.

The rust is done through stippling. Paint the darker color first, then stipple the lighter oranges on top of it (If I need more shading afterward, I'd do a glaze with a darker color).
Then, I picked one of the brightest silvers and painted on the chipping (mostly on the edges where the rust would be more likely to chip off).
The purple is done after most of the other colors were finished- mostly it was just done with glazes (just add some water to a bright purple). The color I used is P3 beaten purple (it is a vibrant purple).
The brightest purples- like the fire- were painted purple to begin with. I think I did some wet blending on those- it should be mostly Beaten Purple and white (I might have gone darker on the tips- my favorite color for that would be Nightshade Purple from Reaper- it is practically black).

Brilliant thank you! What color primer did you use on this lot?

This is absolutely terrific and is exactly how GW should have painted them. They actually look like fetid, diseased, rusting horrors unlike the bright, comedic ones GW show off.
Top marks.

I pretty much always go with black primer.
If you're base coating properly, it doesn't matter so much what color your primer is, but black helps me do the composition as I go (ie, it is easier to tell if I got the highlights high enough before moving on to the next area, ect.
