Hey everyone, I'm trying to come up with a list that could be both fun to play, and provides the opportunity to use modern day vehicles in lieu of the AM equivalent. (Black Hawk helicopters instead of valkeryies, Apaches instead of Vultures, Shermans instead of russes, and some sort of tow trucks instead of basalisks/hydras). I'm a fan of the win quick/lose quick philosophy, I love the opportunity for flashy wins/disastrous fails, but I'd still like to be able to feel like I can have a chance of winning irregardless of what army sets up on the other side of the table. So, I'm looking for suggestions on things to cut/add to be able to round out my list a little more.

Tempestus Drop (Warhammer 40,000 8th Edition) [117 PL, 5CP, 1,994pts]

Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Astra Militarum)

Field Commander
Imperial Commander's Armoury
Selections: 1 additional Heirloom of Conquest
Regimental Doctrine: Regiment: Millitarum Tempestus
Vigilus Defiant Tempestus Drop Force

HQ
Commissar Yarrick
Tempestor Prime: Selections: Plasma Pistol, Relic (Militarum Tempestus): The Tactical Auto-Reliquary of Tyberius, Tempestus Drop Force, WT (Tempestus Drop Force): Grave-Chute Commando
Tempestor Prime: Selections: Master of Command, Plasma Pistol, Relic: The Laurels of Command, Tempestus Drop Force, Warlord

Troops
Militarum Tempestus Scions (2x units) 2 plasma guns, plasma pistol, 2 hotshot las gun
Militarum Tempestus Scions (1 unit) 4 plasma guns, plasma pistol, 5 hotshot las gun

Elites
2x Militarum Tempestus Command Squads, 4 Plasma guns each

Flyer
3x Valkyries, 2x Multiple Rocket Pods, Multi Laser, 2x Heavy Bolters
2x Vulture Gunships w/Heavy Bolter and Twin Punisher Gatling Cannons

Spearhead Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Astra Militarum)
Regimental Doctrine: Regiment: Catachan
Vigilus Defiant Emperor's Wrath Artillery Company

HQ
Sly Marbo

Elites
Sergeant Harker

Heavy Support
2x Basalisk
2x Basalisk
1x Hydra

Vultures to deal with hordes, Plasma alpha strikes for monstrous creatures/knights, basalisks to help clean up what the plasma misses (using up my few command points so that some of them can shoot twice), and a hydra because I wasn't sure what else to do with my remaining points. Sly for character assassination, Harker to reroll 1's on the heavy support tohit rolls.

Things that I'd like to do: Get more command points. If I could free up about another 40 points, I could change the spearhead to a battalion, and get some ObSec deepstrike scions. I'd really appreciate any feedback you could provide. I'm hoping to be able to finalize a list soon so I can start planning purchases.

My advice: Drop Yarrik - he's awesome, but not worth 100 point in my opinion. That frees up room for another scion unit, and you absolutely NEED to upgrade to that battalion. You won't be winning ANY games without 3-6 or more troop choices. I like the scions for their deepstrike capabilities, for mid/early game objective taking.

Secondly, you have no psykers, which means you cannot deny the witch, and armies like Grey Knights will rock your world with their psychic abilities. I advice at least one, if not 3 astropaths (without the stave, so they only cost 26 points each.)

Lastly, I love your artillery component, but I'm fairly certain you are not allowed to bring 4 basilisks, as per the Rule of 3's. You might have to drop one of them. Which, between Yarrick and a Basilisk, 208 points should be more than enough room to add some troops and psykers.

Thank you for your feedback!

I thought it was 3 units for the rule of 3s? Thank you for pointing out the lack of psykers, I cant believe I forgot them!

Yarrick is in there for the +1 to hit bubble so that I dont kill myself with overcharged plasma. (Edit: I reread. You are right, pretty worthless here. Swapping for 2x scion squads)I just have a habit of putting two vultures into my lists... with the valkeries I dont need 2 of them I could drop one of the vultures and the hydra, which frees me up to 259 points. Let's me upgrade to a 2nd battalion by adding 3x astropath (one in drop battalion, two in artillery) and 4x scions in the artillery battalion troop choice.

Edit: adding list. I forgot I needed 2 hqs for battalion, so I dropped 1 of the extra sion squads and added a primaries psyker. Got me to 2000 exact.

I think your ok taking more Basilisks because your are allowed 3 units with the rule of 3. And each basilisk unit has a maximum unit size of 3. So you could actually have 9.
