Rough idea for a list, but I'm indecisive as all heck and wanted to make sure that this is, while not needing to be competitive, is still a decent list for 1000 points, as I have not played 8th edition yet.

Welcome to Chaos Marines!

I'm assuming the chaos lord and champion will be going in the rhino with the bezerkers? Otherwise there is no reason to take MoK on them with everyone else being Slaanesh.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I also have to ask, if you're mad on Slaanesh have you considered Emperor's Children?

Well the Lord has a jump pack, so I assume he can't fit inside the Rhino, so he'll either drop with the Raptor squads to help with overcharged plasma, or run up the field behind cover towards big enemy number 47. I hadn't really noticed the mark thing, I just put Slaanesh on them so that they could shoot twice if ever needed, and no I don't really want to play Emperor's Children, it was either Night Lords or Red Corsairs.

it's a fancy small list.
Altough don't make your math with havocs. From personal experience, they die fast.

Raptors are also a somewhat niche choice, they can work, especially with your setup and the future Shock assault infantry rule.

The Jumppack lord is more something that BL, or AL do, not because red corsairs is bad but mostly because you really want to genereate MW's with them and these have with their relic chainswords the best chances for that.

Also between your Rhino and your Havocs threat saturation is rather low.
That might be an issue.

How competitive does this need to be or is this just a decent allrounder list?

Edit on hind sight, why not take the Red corsair trait, which grants you a free relic, and pick maelstromsbite. ( A really nice combi melta).

It looks fun and should hit hard.

Have some games and see how it goes!

I wasn't sure about the Havocs either, but I thought a Maulerfiend would die even quicker. This isn't tournament competitive, but I do like my lists to be somewhat decent. I went for the Raptors for plasma to destroy heavy infantry and light vehicles. Because It's my first list I'm not sure about a lot of things tbh, so I'm willing to listen to any changes.

Don't worry, its a fine list. And a rather decent starter list for chaos Space marines.

I do find the lack of a sorcerer a bit meh. (honestly CSM powers are about the only reason to field CSM these days, well atleast it feels that way)

Atm you have 2 obvious threats.
Havocs and the Khornate party bus.

IF you keep the raptors and the lord in reserve that is.
You do have a decent ammount of CP for beeing RC. But i'd still go with the RC warlord trait and replace the Thunder hammer with Malestormsbite. (you do have Vigilus ablaze right?)
The raptors honestly are fire and forget units.Even in a 1000 pts game, they drop in, and need to make their points. or you just wasted 1/5th of your army in ressources. It's the most debatable choice imo. BUT i will refer to the new rules update,at baseline 2 attacks (3 with chainsword) they might make for a decent drop in kill stuff and tie stuff up unit.

As you said a single Mauler is a bit of a iffy choice. It's an obvious target and for a distraction carnifex there are other units around that do that better (90 pts reaper missile brute f.e)

If I were to get rid of the Raptors, what would you say are a good unit that I can fit into the list in their absence? I will likely be playing against Imperial Guard and Space Marines, I was thinking about a bike squad and something else instead maybe, but I'm just trying to reach a solid fire or combat base overall

Hmm good question.
Daemonprince with wings and talon. Also has access to Spells. (bunch of cultists or a spawn or two for the rest)

Alternatively if you were to drop one Raptor squad you might would be able to field a Hellbrute in it's stead, giving you more board presence and more target saturation. (cheap doublefiring frenzy on a hellbrute with a 4 shot gun and missiles is not excactly something you tend to ignore)

As insane as that sounds, have you considered to expand the mainline CSM squads?
I mean you can recycle them. You could go full Skew btw with Red corsairs meaning a PA horde and just recycle squad after squad. ALTOUGH (personal experience apply copius ammounts of salt) I run a list for fun games that has 40 marines in it 10 for melee 30 for dakka. Whilest the recycling generally does help a lot. i feel like you need to fully commit to it unlike me. And whilest it does help my marines staying on the board quite a bit it is still the average marine body. Altough the free movement from the recycling might be able with the new Shock assault rule to create a situation were tying up big stuff is actually a good choice?!?

I had actually considered a Helbrute before, but didn't know whether to make it ranged or melee to benefit from the advance and charge trait of the Red Corsairs. I could buff the CSM squads, but I have stuck to the 5 man squads more from an actual money perspective rather than points being the reason

understandably, the new CSM are quite expensive.

Could've fielded a 5/5/10 setup though. the 10 man for assault duty the 5 mans for camping.

Oh I have enough to field a 5/5/10 setup, that would be good, give the 5 man squads chaincannons and maybe give the 10 man squad a flamer or a plasma gun

I run twin plasma.

I'll grab my list maybee it'll help you.

Spoiler:
Red Corsairs:
Battalion: 8 CP
HQ
Lord PP, Esword. 83pts.
Sorcerer, Slaanesh: Staff, 5+++ spell and Prescience. 98pts
DA: Khorne, benediction of darkness (-1to hit) 100pts.
Troops:
10 CSM, Slaanesh: 2 AC 150pts
10 CSM, Slaanesh: 2 Lascannons: 180pts.
10 CSM, Slaanesh: 2 PG, E-axe 157pts.
10 CSM, Khorne: Icon. 140 pts.
Heavy support:
Havocs, Slaanesh: 4 AC, PG 121 pts.

Elite detachment: 2 CP
2 CP.
Warpsmith 60 pts.
Daemonprince, Wings , Warptime, Daemon axe. 180pts.
Elites:
5 Chosen slaanesh: 5 Combibolters , power maul. 84 pts.
5 Terminators, slaanesh: 1 Reaper, 4 CB 5 Chainaxes. 153pts.
Hellbrute, Reaper AC Missile launcher 90 pts.
Hellbrute, Fist, Reaper 100pts.
Decimator, Butcher AC, Siegeclaw with inbuilt hellflamer. 152 pts.
Heavy Support:
Defieler Havoc launcher, reaperchaincannon 136pts.
Total: 1984 pts.

Ok, as you can see, not excactly the type of fast army you want to have, it also has a lot of style over effectiveness,, what with the meh lord, Decimator and chosen and the slightly suboptimal Hellbrute.
It is still has some mobility options (DP with wings, Terminators, Warptime, and ofcourse recycling) and some obvious threats, like defiler decimator and 2 hellbrutes. Which in truth are comparatively cheap compared to the infantry.

it also fields a somewhat decent firebase.

It is a gimmik list though but maybee it inspires you a bit.

Well if you are staying with the raptors switch - them out for plasma pistols and give the leader a power fist or power maul.

- you spend less points and range is not your problem.
- you have everyone with chainswords and pistols so you get an extra attack in melee and you can shoot the pistols in melee.
- giving the leader a fist or maul still allows for the unit to blast a vehicle in close combat.

Otherwise go combi-melta and meltas that costs more but it allows you to ruin vehicles and monstrous creatures.

Disagree, the plas does it all cheaper and better.

Also neither Maul and especially not the powerfist are worth their points.

Exception torwards the malestroms bite but only due to s9.

Good luck taking a tank out with Plasma shots. Max is 12 damage in one round.

Charge a tank with PP and powerfist (getting two hits) you can get 18 damage.

3 Melta guns can get 18.

And I am not taking armor save into account. So in all cases you will do less that the max.

Max damage is a really unrealistic way of saying how much damage a weapon will do. You're presuming you'll get a 6 with every damage roll.

If you do the maths vs a t7 3+ vehicle. 3 combi plas will do 4.4 wounds and 3 melta (out of melta range after deepstrike) will do 4.7.

If you're going to charge then you need a 9 happens 28% of the time, even if you take a host raptorial detachment it's only 58%. You get an adverage of 0.7 wounds with that powerfist.

It's really not a great way to do that damage to tanks. And costs 21 points more than the plasma which is much more of a threat to infantry and elites.

I have an experimental 1000 point list too using red corsairs although it is going in from a different direction. Mainly aiming to push lots of threats up the table and present lot's of high priority targets.
There is 37 points leftover which can be used to kit one of the CSM group with an extra bolter marine and an extra plasma marine which would round the points out nicely at 1000. Just throwing it out there for consideration.

Aye that is the alternative.
Btw you could chuck in a spawn at 25 pts mate.or 2 more marines.

Red corsairs are probably one of the better Traits because you can pull off alot of diffrent playstyles consistently.

Aggresive with lots of varied infantry as your first list.
A PA horde such as my gimmik list
Or this beauty which is probably as goood as it gets.

I had considered Obliterators, but they seemed like a big points sink for a 1000 points list. I have started to think more about bike units though, because of their speed and ability to carry a few special weapons.

Single utility Oblit is actually fairly decent.
Atleast they performed for me.
But in a 1000 pts list i agree, they are a bit on the expensive side.
