$70 now days in Aus for https://www.games-workshop.com/en-AU/Ultramarines-Chief-Librarian-Tigurius-2019
Are they getting crazy? (no need for question mark I think they are)
When first primaris marines came out and their characters were $60 each.... a normal character is around $40 each (in AUS) even with inflation a major increase... another +$10??? WTF

I can pay it but would I want to....no way.... how do they think this is a long run pay variable... is someone really gunna pay that. Maybe I will be wrong, $70 for one 40mm scale model... I undersatnd the character is a limited edition, they should of released 1 of the other standard at same time, like new dread etc, to boost initial sales etc and need other to get over free postage etc

I get what they're thinking behind the price primaris chars are expensive eneugh, and it's conceviable you might want 2 priamris captains etc. tiggy though.. you can only ever have one so... it makes a degree of sense for primaris characyers to be even more absurdly expensive. I do agree it might backfire and lead to reduced sales though

Seems about par for the course for named characters of late tbh, if you compare with Kharn, Typhus, etc. Seems awfully expensive to me, but I've no interest in named characters anyway.

Agreed, all characters seem similar. They are jacking up the price, secretly. I look at wargame exclusive models etc and i tell you what if GW charging that price pick up their game.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
If they start making this price I will start buying https://wargameexclusive.com/ cause similar price range but looks 10x better if at the larger side price range.
Not a plug for them was just surprised at how much tiggy was etc

Wow, I consider myself rather price immune, but that's going to be a hard pass from me. I felt like I got a bit ripped off buying a regular primaris librarian at $30.
edit: Oh. Aussie dollars. So how much is it in USD? Like $40?

Good grief, AU$70??
Thats some tax and shipping costs there.
£25 is roughly AU$44, NZ$46, US$30 and €27.
So 37% on top of the base price, I guess it might be an accurate reflection.

They will charge what the market will bear. If Aussie's can't afford it then GW's business there would suffer.
Sales increased year over year in AUS&NZ, so until people stop buying GW will keep charging it.

Last Christmas I picked up these two packs - 10 bodies for $34 or so. I gave them to a buddy so he can kit-bash heroes for....waaaaay less than the obnoxious cost of Primaris characters. They're beautiful sculpted resin bits too, and Primaris sized (hence the Prime in the name). They take normal sized backs, heads, arms, etc...or Primaris spares if you have them. I cannot fathom paying GW prices for their plastic solo figures. They're laughable.
All I see when I see GW prices is a huge market for savvy third-party manufacturers.
PS: Yes, loads of people will be buying him. The same people will likely snarkily refer to you as being too cheap, or bringing up the "you only need one!" excuse...as if that justifies gak pricing. GW is on a roll, and their unquestioning buyers are hurling money at them as fast as possible.

I use Kromlech fairly often for weapons, but you only really have heads left from the Intercessors box. Heroes you can get away with, but units are pretty difficult.
If you've paid $34 for 10 armless, headless, and weaponless models how much do you expect to spend to get those bits? That $26 gap evaporates really quickly and then you can't even use plastic glue with resin on plastic joins.
Being financially savvy is great, but there are other costs to consider.

A gundam appeals to the entire audience regardless of what it is. An ultramarine captain only appeals to people playing ultramarines. Within that group the average ownership of the model will be < 1.

Daedalus,
You're missing the point. You get ten different bodies which are suitable for characters. And while Primaris bits are scant...normal bits are not. I'm not suggesting you replace your basic intercessors with resin bodies - that'd be a little stupid. My point is that since you can share arms, shoulder pads, heads and even backpacks with non-Primaris proportion bits, any marine player should have hundreds of spare bits, arms, etc. $40+ is fething stupid for a basic infantry model in plastic, regardless of how "important" it is. That's the point.
Even buying new aftermarket or spared out GW bits on eBay and you'll still end up literally hundreds of dollars shy of what you'd get if you bought every captain, psyker, apothecary, etc. as a $40 figure. GW has already priced me out of the game, but I'm not beyond helping some other people stay in it without paying gak-stupid prices for their character models.

Yea, that's fair. I have nothing against that approach. There's just a lot of people who would rather pay for the convenience of not having to worry about that stuff even if it means slowing purchases a bit.

I wouldnt call the Cheif Librarian of the most "recognizable" chapter a normal 40k model, might as well call calgar normal while you're at it.
If we were talking a Sgt or other model you'd need multiples of, then yes that's too much.

But why draw the distinction of "what" model it is? If a single plastic mono-pose character was $15 or $20...perhaps that's be acceptable because he comes in its own box with a little more plastic than say a basic Primaris Intercessor. As a consumer though, I have the benefit of not giving a gak about "why" a company feels compelled to charge $40 (where you can get 10 similar size figured for $60 in a "normal" box).
A special or named character may have slightly more plastic, maybe took a few more hours in CAD to design than a basic infantryman, but at the end of the day I'm still buying a single plastic model. It's irrelevant that I only "need" one, or that he's a named character. None of that is going to make me suddenly think "Hmmm, I guess this plastic is worth 550% more money than that marine over there."
This is the beauty of a free market. They can charge whatever they want, and I buy whatever I want. I have paid more money in the past for unopened, out-of-production minis. I obviously have a limit of what I see as value.
Tigurius is most definitely a normal 40K model. There's nothing particularly special about him, except perhaps a few more CAD elements and maybe a couple hours more designing him. He's still the same X-grams of plastic. Giving him a fancy name doesn't make me suddenly value him more.

A mold might cost something like $200,000. The labor to design, undercut, extrude, etc, etc might be $20,000. The kit is $40. That means they have to sell 5,500 Tigurius models to make back their costs.
Obviously those are VERY fuzzy numbers.
GW charges a premium, sure, but similar quality models aren't much cheaper and come more often in resin, which is a pain in the ass at times.
Smaller manufacturers have to do this as well, because they don't know if a model will sell enough to break even. This maggot demon is $60, but occupies only a 50mm base:
