Hey folks!

I've decided that I'm going to be taking a break from GW for a while. With so many other good games out there, and with me playing so little 40K, I feel like this is the best move right now so that I can hopefully reignite the 'fun' side of gaming.

With that said, I've chosen to focus on Conquest, the new mass-battle fantasy wargame by Para Bellum, and Infinity.

I've played infinity before, and the store I frequent most used to have a fairly active community. I'm hoping to be able to get that rolling again.

With that said, I'm opening this thread because I'm looking for pointers and comments on some ideas on how best to go about that. I've got some ideas now, but I want to see if other people have already done this, what they've done, what worked and what didn't. I'll also be applying these principles to starting a local Conquest community, so they should be good for multiple games.

What I have so far:
1) Pick a regular date to play
This seems obvious, but for me this has been very challenging because my job is such that I travel a lot. I'm perpetually hoping that that will settle down, but one never knows for sure. However, I think it's fair to say that if people don't have a date to play, trying to shift the dates constantly to match up with schedules is pretty much a recipe for no one actually gaming.

2) Have 1-2 fully equipped and NICE tables to play on
This one is quite the expense with Infinity, but I feel like it's incredibly important. My personal belief is that when it comes to well-executed wargaming tables, Infinity has the best, hands-down. Going to Adepticon one year and seeing the Infinity tables there literally made me want to play the game, with the thought basically being 'I don't know what this game is, but I have to play on these tables!' Comparing a themed Infinity ITS table to even a themed 40K ITC table is a 'no contest' in my head (please note: this is just my opinion and no disrespect is intended if you prefer the 40K tables!). I'm planning on a Yui Jing table from Warsenal, but I'm wondering if the are other companies that I should look at for the second one. Any ideas here?
Edit: Also, one of the big things I'm trying to get right is terrain saturation. If my goal was to recreate the amount of terrain from the Red Veil box but in MDF or whatever, would that be enough for a 4x4 table? If not, how much more should I add?

3) Have 4 fully painted 300-point armies for people to play with
It goes without saying, but people won't jump into a new game or jump back into an old one without commitment from other people (typically). Having multiple armies at 300 points will allow me to loan armies out to people who are on the fence and teach people to play with an army that at least may approach their play style. I've started this by going with Red Veil (I basically stole it at our local gaming auction for $25!) and then getting the recommended 'increase to 300 points' models from that book, so now I've got two armies with TAGs! Everyone likes TAGs! My next armies will probably veer away from the big robots and perhaps focus more on shenanigans and multiple infantry types. Since there are so many military bases near me, I feel like USAriadna would be a good choice to really grab some attention, but I'm not sold on Colfront. Recommendations on those would be appreciated!

So yeah, that's my post! Let's discuss this and come up with a plan!

I find it to be a game that grows pretty naturally as long as its visible. As long as tables are up and models are out people take interest pretty well.

The other thing I've noted (I've been playing the game since the start of N2 and was running demos and organising campaign play before there was even a warcor program) is that you pretty much need to have a "show runner" to keep things going, and that person HAS to show up to every scheduled play session ... or else nothing happens.

If the terrain is there, and there are people willing to play on that day, the play will happen - sometimes it just takes someone to light a fire under their a$$.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
