Well, looks like No Man's Sky is finally a good game.

I picked this up when it came back, and it was one of the fastest deinstalls I've ever done. Completely under-baked and not ready. Now that it's been 3 years though, it's a whole other story. I got lured in by the most recent Beyond update, which adds VR support - I like VR games, and wanted to see how NMS has been developing.

It's a blast, mostly. Lots of cool stuff to do if you like just wandering around, exploring. It presses a lot of the same buttons Minecraft does, in terms of gameplay feel. I'm digging it a lot. I haven't actually tried VR yet - I wanted to understand the base game before I did that. Mostly I'm finding space stations, learning alien languages, and doing random missions.

Has anyone else been playing this recently?

I always kinda wondered if it would be worth now.

An odd fascination really.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

I enjoy it. It's still not, and will never be, a game that will appeal to those who desire highly action-oriented gameplay. But it's great for exploration and seeing weird things.

"You listen to me. While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact is that I am a naysayer and hatchetman in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and I'll gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Gandhi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

If I go back to it, I think I need to start a whole new game. I started during the foundation update and restarted it when did the Atlus rising update. But then they did the NEXT update and it broke a ton of my save file but I refused to restart.

When they put out the Abyss update I tried to get back into the game but I was still a little burned out from the 90 hours or whatever I put into NEXT.

I need to start up again now that Beyond is out. But I have other games on my list, and restarting NMS for the third time from scratch isn't a super engaging concept to me right now.

That said, to anyone on the fence about NMS, if you like exploration-based games. Then this is not one to miss. It had a rough launch, and I never would have bought it Gamestop didn't have it used on sale. But I do not regret the purchase in any way, and if I had bought it new would still have gotten my moneys worth.

Same here.
I kept an eye on it even through its train-wreck launch.
I liked the idea of the vast exploration at your own pace etc.

Might check out some longplay vids of this release and see. Anyone know if it needs a decent rig to run it?
