I guess I would be a Kroot because you could evolve and adapt by eating your prey, but be well aware of evolutionary dead ends like the Kroot Hounds and Krootox.

I'd really REALLY not want to be any race in 40k, it's a pretty crap sack universe. that said, if I HAD to choose, I'll settle for being a human on a well defended world with nice living conditions and little real strategic importance. I might actually be able to live a decent life and die of natural causes!

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

This is hard one. Tyranid hive mind would be great one (not part of it) . If you can't choose which necron or daemon you would be, they are out. Is Primarchs one race? That would be good too.

If you wish to grow wise, learn why brothers betray brothers.

Every race living in the 41st millennium is doomed to live out the entirety of its existence in a constant state of warfare and violence, so I might as well enjoy it if that's what I'm stuck with. Orks it iz, ladz.

Is none of them an option ? I mean all their lives is pretty dire.

Maybe a great unclean one, they are pretty jolly, and you get to hang out with nurglings in a forest.

A purestain genestealer.

I would be an awesome patriarch/ cult leader. we'd be real stealthy like and just grow our cult for centuries, thereby avoiding some of the perpetual warfare while we lurk.

Good life if you become a patriarch- they worship you like a god.

If not, then Craftworld Eldar. Artsy, skillfull, longlived, strong possibility of psychic ability.

This. But if I had to choose, I'd choose to be a Primarch.

My WHFB armies were Bretonians and Tomb Kings.

I would second Man Tube: If I have to live in the WH 40k universe, I might at least have some fun while I'm at it. WHAAAAAGGG!
Alternatively Tau Aircaste does not sound too bad. If they are really brainwashed by their etherals, they seem to at least not notice or suffer from it (compared to an imperial citizen under control of the commissariar or inquisition) and you are most likely either far from the worst fighting or if you really die in battle, its over fast and you don't have to suffer long.

The problem with picking Orks is thinking you're going to be Ghazkull instead of some random Boy. Even the wimpiest Primarch has life on easy mode compared to the best Space Marine.

As the only race that's universally happy, I'd have to go with Orks.

As a bonus, your soul is unlikely to be tortured by the chaos gods for eternity, and you can't lose!

[Alternately, Dark Eldar have a lot of fun too...]

Sign me up to be a Craftworld Eldar.

At the least I'm just a simple space elf.
But maybe I get to fly a jet bike, fly as a Phoenix Hawk, or melt gak as a Fire Dragon....

Chaos god, just to make the rest of you suffer.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I don't mind being a random Ork Boy. The best part about being an Ork is that everyone has a chance to be the "big boss", as long as they don't die. Just go around, krump some gitz, and have a good time. Can't complain.

Eldar civilian on a Craftworld. Even though you may face an eventual doom...you live a couple thousand years, have a dozen different careers and it's one of the few places in the 40K universe that isn't complete and utter gak.

No. There's not even any hypothetical way I would want to exist in 40k. 'Oh but you could be a fearless chaos daemon or a tyranid or w/e' yeah, still no.
