Has anyone tried an infiltrating army to any effect? With the Invictor Warsuit's realease, I was thinking of three 10 man squads of Infiltrators, Eliminators, and 3 warsuits lined up 9 inches from your opponenents stuff at the begining of the game along with Wulfen able to pop in where needed. Board control at the beginning of the game would be yours.

I will soon have the ability to do it with all the new Primaris stuff. I haven't tried it and don't really have plans to though. I just can't think of a way that tons of Primaris Vanguard units infiltrating is going to be a worthwhile thing. For the most part, everything is good at range and don't want to be close to the enemy. I tend to be weak at deploying so, I wouldn't be surprised if my infiltrating utilization was even weaker.

I think there's potential to build a WS list based around it, but it's frustrating that the Infiltrating units can't take real melee weapons and they also don't have a Veteran Strat like Intercessors do.

Yes, you can,
No, would not be very competitive

would most definatly be entertaining to play

be sure to take advantage of the phobos warlord trait to re-deploy 3 phobos units befor the first turn

if you play ultramarines, be sure to take advantage of the UM stratagem to redeploy 3 units of any type befor the first turn begins (in addition to the phobos trait, that is 6 units you can pick up and redeploy )

It’d be a quick game certainly. The war suits are well armed, but no one is going to be afraid of infiltrators and their slightly better than normal bolters.

Well, with Marines it seems better to keep the enemy at arm's length.
This contradicts a bit the tactical usage of the new and shiny Invitors.

Since you can deploy anywhere not within 9 inches of an enemy model, what about the potential to stick infiltrator squads right on top of objectives (depending on scenario)? The Warsuits could be in your opponenents face delaying them and the infiltrators could be sitting on objectives gaining points. Not a list intended on killing everything on your opponents side, but if you coudl gain a large enough lead in points earlier, they may not be able to catch up.

Outside of Imperial or Crimson Fists I agree with you. With one of those chapter tactics infiltrators might be secretly quite good. Add in a Chapter Master strat on a Phobos Captain who can infiltrate up within the required 6" of them and go fishing for 6s with the rerolls. When I did the monte carlo simulation it was not astonishing but it was way better than I expected - against classically super-hard targets like Imperial Knights or Alaitoc Flyers a minimum squad is making them roll for 6 or 7 saves per turn (and with Tactical Doctrine or Storm of Fire that is at AP-1). I think 3 10 man squads could cripple a Knight in a turn and the Eliminators may well be able to finish it off.

I still think they are a bit overcosted but in those chapters at least I can value in them beyond turning off all those GSC tricks.

Primaris are tough, but they aren't that tough. Especially for the point cost of their infiltrating units. I have my doubts that the new marine vanguard stuff can realistically be able to hold the line even for deep strike reinforcements all of which comes at a relatively high point premium. I feel that parking them on distant objectives only leaves them unsupported by the rest of their army while making it that much easier for the opposing army to destroy them. I think they are too expensive to be utilized like that. Again, I haven't tried it though.

Monte-Carlo simulations are certainly not necessary here, but we appreciate your effort.

Its just a tool I use when I want to run through lots of different scenarios. Once the basic rules are coded I can swap in different values for modifiers/penalties etc in seconds to get a feel of what a unit or special rule will be good for. Feel free to use your own tools or just intuition, whatever works for you dude

Anyway infiltrators with Imperial or Crimson Fists chapter tactics can get work done against targets you would normally never consider worthwhile for bolters.
