I have an extremely old squad of Rough riders for my IG army - they’re actually the Necromunda Spiders figures on horses. Unfortunately, the models are in really bad shape, and finding additional models to grow the squad is basically impossible.

I’ve been thinking about replacing them, but I don’t like the look of the Attila riders. Can anyone suggest to me some replacements that might fit? The riders should either have a Cadian look or Wargames Factory Greatcoats look (sorry, no Krieg - don’t want to deal with Forgeworld). If at all possible, I’d prefer non-horse mounts - motorcycles or perhaps great cats.

Any help folks can provide would be appreciated- thanks!

Also nothing against DKoK riders.
They are nice sculpts, if you get fw resin for once in a good state

That’s not a bad idea at all - I don’t know why I didn’t think of replacing the upper body. (Though the hands on the handlebars might be a little tricky to match up or replace)

Actually that is easy.
You just need to replace the shoulder to get the armor pad.

Alternativly it does also not look too Bad of you leave the Arms as is.
Also bonus points for nice bits to break up monotony.

I went for exoskeletons. There are some basic Cadians embedded in there as well

Way back in 3rd edition, I did a mix of Tallern RR, Cadian on converted scout marine bikes, then added some Death Corps later. The GSC bikes would definitely fit the bill.

Empire Outriders. Use the legs and the horses. Add Cadian bodies. Marauder spears make good lances when you trim the studs off. I cut them in two and mounted them on a chainsword handle - chopped off the blade and trimmed the bottom of handle flush, then fitted the spear parts. This gave a suitably tech-ed up look.

I used the Outrider heads too as I’m doing a plastic Praetorian army. You could just use the regular Cadian heads.

I love that super human guy in the back man-handling a meltagun with one hand.

I made mine with empire horsemen, as above, and replaced the torsos, arms and heads with Cadian parts.

If you use the left-hand arms from GL and Flamer arms, they kind of look like they’re holding the reins.

I used right arms with brass rods and “Chaos spikes” for the spear heads.

My ideal would be, GW making new rough riders, one day. Believe in the dream, Gimmie them horses GW.

To be honest, I'd rather have something other than horses.

I've been thinking of getting AoS gryph-hounds and getting the mounted figures to put atop from a different set. Does anyone know if the gryph-hounds are large enough that it won't look like I've got a unit of Shetland riders?

I managed to pull quite a few complete Cold Ones from my FLGS bits box about 5 years ago. I've been waiting to do something with them. I was thinking Kroot Cavalry, but they are narrative play only now.

If you can go out of GW, the other side game has some minis that would be great standins for them

They fit as my infantry is mantic GCPS, but could be the base of a nice kitbash

That mono-cycle guy is pretty cool. Bit expensive, but cool.
Also, Kroot Cavalry would be awesome. I still have some hopes for expansion of both the kroot and stingwings. Sad I know...but there it is.

Back when I had a guard army, I went with bikers for mine.

My RR were hive world biker scum, though (this was also back when you could take hive militia so around 5th ed).



The bikes are from Void (though Scotia grendel these days).
I had to sculpt up a set of legs to fit the guard torsos (the old void riders were a tad skinnier ).
