Ok doke, so I just purchased roughly 2k points of beasts of chaos (their book comes with it)

Now I'm just wondering what other books I need for typical matched play/tournament games kinda stuff

So I need both the rulebook and the generals handbook? Or is only getting one of them fine?

The general's handbook and a copy of the core rules which you should be able to get for free as a download.

General's handbook should be enough to have access to battleplans, points, etc...

Although, it is not absolutely to get anything else besides the Battletome. Rules are available for free on the website, just like unit points on the Warscroll builder. Since you already have the Battletome to have access to all Beasts of Chaos special rules and such, it's down to how "complete" you want your rules. In case you want absolutely everything you can also throw in Malign Sorcery for endless spells or the Core Book for the Realms rules, etc....

So, it depends.

My main thing is I play a lot of local, and sometimes a little larger tournaments. I did in 40k do will probably do the same in sigmar. I just want to make sure I have all the rules and deployments and missions and stuff I need

Sticking to the annual General's Handbook + downloading the free rules should have you covered then, as auticus suggested.

For getting started I would get the Battletome and Core rules and leave it at that for the moment.

Get some experience and get the general flow, pace and structure of the game. The core elements presented in those two books are not going to radically change and most of the rest builds ontop of that foundation.

After that consider:
1) Generals Handbook 2019 - some rule refinements, point changes and addendum. Mercenaries make an appearance as do some revised rules for 1K matches that modify things a little to balance them out a bit more. You also get some new Battleplans.
A good book for reference of your own.

2) FAQ/Errata - basically every book has both of these. Battletomes, core rules, expansion rule books etc... Some are long some are short; they basically make modifications to the core rules and clarify some rules and interactions within the game. They supplement the books. Good to add once you've got a grasp of the core rules of the game and essential for events.

3) Malign Sorcery. This expansion adds all the generic endless spells as well as warscrolls for them. The book then outlines realm rules in more detail with more modifiers for the realms. Good to have for reference and the kit is very cheap with all the generic endless spells you can use. Some are very useful (like the cogs) whilst others are more niche. Not forgetting that Beasts of Chaos have 3 of their own spells too.

4) Forbidden Powers. A bit less of a major expansion than MS, but this adds a selection of "Death themed" universal endless spells to the game as well as a universal terrain feature. A very good price for what you get and another of those things likely worth to invest into; though in general people consider it less "essential/core" than Malign Sorcery.
