You know, honestly, the Sebulba-looking titans are probably set up a lot better for actual combined arms combat as far as giant-robots go. Larger, heavier legs, with direct to-the-ground support on the outside can be more heavily armored, and thus protect the core better, and the low-slung weapons have a better ability to engage against tanks and infantry and other ground targets, with sweeping lines of fire instead of pokey ones.

Thanks! I am really enjoying working on these old knights, my interpretations are by no means perfect but it is doing wonders with regards to keeping me interested in the hobby.

I can't wait to get back to some terrain, currently I am a little short on space to really break out all the stuff I have kicking around but hopefully that will change soon. I am also eying up some 3D printers so that should be a game-changer if I decide to splurge on one!

Ooh, they do look a bit like Sebulba, I think you may have just given it a name! The design definitely lends itself to a more anti-infantry or anti-tank purpose as opposed to one designed to fight other knights. Given that I just finished building my own interpretation of it, I am not sure how much it retains that idea given that it has a pretty massive claw and gun but I think it does the job for now!



And here we go, courtesy of Anvildude, the newly annointed Sebulban Pattern Knight!

Designed as a frontline knight, this machine is one of very few knights that is manned by two crew members, one to maneuver the notoriously unstable leg design, and the other to control the weapon systems which usually consist of a giant power claw and assortment of anti-infantry or anti-tank weaponry.









The combination of plastic and resin parts makes this guy look a little choppy at the moment but that should be resolved when I slap some paint on to unify the whole design.

Time now to take a big family photo I think! I still have just a couple more torsos and bits kicking around so I may have a few more designs up my sleve.

Just as I think I am all done making new knights I find an interesting bit that inspires a new one!

Spotted a jetpack at the bottom of a bits box so I decided to incorporate it into a knight chassis. What's more scary than a bipedal tank walking towards you? A bipedal tank falling on you from the sky of course!

While less armoured than its standard counterparts, the Peagasus Class knight makes up for its weaknesses by being able to get dropped into the middle of combat by using its powerful propulsion systems to slow its desent just enough to land safely, often incinerating anything around it as a result. While deemed to be far too inefficient with regards to fuel consuption, several thousand prototypes still exist and can turn the tide of battle in a billowing cloud of flames and smoke.






I also whipped up a little utility tractor with some bits and found some little tanks that should make some great base decorations for some titans!




With the jump-knight finished, that brings my total to 15 unique designs. I have plans for 7 other variants that I would like to try but I have unfortunately exhausted my supply of models and money that I can justify spending on them. Maybe it is time to paint the ones I currently have!

Here is the family so far, love how they look all together! I am not sure if I should give them all the same paint scheme or not, it's very tempting to spice it up and have a few more colours thrown in so as not to get bored doing the same green over and over again...

Absolutely unreal banana peel! Love the crab head design on the sebulbasaur knight and I am struggling to think of something more immediately intimidating than having a 30 foot tall mech blast down from the atmosphere into a war zone and spray plasma and bullets everywhere.

That family shot is awesome, so cool to see all the unique little stompers and rollers together. This is a fantastic project to follow, thanks for sharing!

So, I made one more Knight even though I said I was done for a bit, not my fault I found another pair of legs though!

I'll call this one the Knight Viscount, a deadly blend of close combat prowess mixed with a formidable long range artillery cannon. I am thinking he looks a little off balanced at the moment, could maybe do with some pauldron parts to keep the arms protected?






In other news I finally got some painting done! I realized while painting this guy that the scale felt a little off when next to a standard knight due to the lack of super fine details such as small rivets and greebles. My solution to this was to make a base that conveys the sense of size much better





I am still unsure what I want to do for basing them but an urban setting is always a good look so I just grabbed a small bit of terrain and textured the base for now. Some creeping red vines would look great on the side of the walls I think so I may grab something that works later today.

the new guy reminds me of an Angry R2 unit , Who needs shoulder pads when you have a gun that big .

I'm struggling with Basing as well right now....along with motivation. I don't want to do bog standard basing that everyone has done, but I also want to do something financially cheap as well.

Yeah it's very hard to come up with something unique these days! You're into 3D printing correct? Maybe see what base toppers there are to print or even design some of your own. Wouldn't use up much resin and would probably look fantastic

I settled on a nuclear fallout style city. The buildings are a simple brass colour with a sepia wash while the floor will get a very dusty soot colour courtesy of some ground up charcoal. It is super simple to do and opens up a lot of possibilities once I get in the swing of things!

I spy a bit of sepia wash that has yet to dry...





I picked up some sculpey today so I will probably make a few sheets of tiles that I can break up and scatter around, similar to what I did with my space marine bases.

I really like the viscount with its giant turret. I think instead of pouldrons, maybe build up parts of the torso to match up with the bottom of the turret?

Hmm I like your thinking, it would look very top-heavy but that is Imperial design in a nutshell!


Speaking of Imperial design, here is something that is definitely not that...

About time my knights had something to shoot at right? Enter the Eldar!



I picked up some Wraithguard the other day with the intent of modifying them to work with Titanicus but honestly there is very little that needs changing. They fit right in and just need some weapons resizing to blend in better.

It was suprisingly hard to find some good scale references for Eldar constructs in relation to Imperial Knights but I think these models are pretty much the same size as a Wraithknight, a model that I really don't like as it is much more bulky than the rest of the range and has super wacky proportions. Here are my reference pictures, not sure how accurate they are so if there are any Eldar players around who know more than me, feel free to chip in!



Given that I don't really like the Wraithknight design, I am tempted to style them after the considerably smaller Wraithlord which will also be much easier to model and simply requires the quick weapon swap to look perfect.

I think the other plastic Eldar kits would also fit in with Titanicus pretty well as they are devoid of many features that would make the scale look off. The Wraithlord kit for example would be an excellent Warhound /Reaver comparison with very little in the way of heavy conversions being needed.

Also, while I type this my mind is wandering and thinking that a Tyranid Bio-titan might be possible just with the contents of my bits box...

ANYWAY. Enough mindless speculation, I'l try to have all 5 Eldar models done up before I completely lose it and start 10 new armies in one night

Meaning that they are out of stock somewhere? All the plastic kits seem available to me!

First guy is all built now, I was going to add a shoulder mounted gun as well but I kinda like it as is... I also found a little mini Eldar to hang out on the base, helps to demonstrate the scale and also stop me from losing it haha

I remember, I once tried to make a Bio-titan out of deer bone.

I had this whole little period where I was basically attempting to kitbash tyrannid stuff with actual bio materials. Chicken-bone bone-swords, deer--bone bio-titans...

I actually had some really cool success making Shrike wings from itty-bitty chicken wing bones as the 'fingers', with egg membrane layered over them- the membrane shrunk when it dried, making what was basically an actual wing. It was a lot tougher than you'd think, too.

I mean more that there's an indie company out there who might be making a model that kinda has a sort of similar aesthetic.

Ohhhh I see what you're getting at! Consider my eyes peeled for when that hits the shelves, these guys are going to need some friends soon!

Haha! No, not quite. More like chicken wings, and supermarket rotisseries. I have learned the best methods to clean bone, though.

It might have been one of the early warning signs of my impending Art degrees.

I still want to try doing more stuff with the egg membrane, though. That stuff was neat.

Be sure to snap some pictures of it if you do make some more stuff, I'd be very interested to see how it turns out!

Finally got the rest of the Eldar consructs finished. Once I got a sense of the possibilities and limitations of the kit, I made a few small tweaks to them such as adding some smaller guns and trying out some different poses. They should make a nice change from painting rivets!




In other major news, I am now the proud owner of a 3D printer, a Mars 2 Pro to be precise. I am still waiting on some resin so I can get started with some test prints but I am very hopeful for what I will be able to acheive with it.

A lot of my remaining knight designs require some fairly complicated parts that I will now be able to build from scratch once I get the basics of 3D modelling down (no easy feat I know).

In addition to that, I have accumulated a considerable amount of files for terrain and models through various kickstarters which I am looking forward to trying out. Stay tuned for some pictures of horribly printed blobs of resin followed hopefully by some sucessful prints in the near future!

Ooooh, will be interested to see what you can do with a 3D printer!

Try Blender for your 3D program. Free, powerful. It's got a bit of a learning curve, but being open-source, it also has a metric tonne of tutorials easily available. Blender Guru is a good source, for one, and the Wikibooks are pretty great too.

I'd offer my expertise with the printer, but I've used exclusively FDM printers, not resin based. I'm curious why so many people in this hobby seem to be going for those instead of FDM, actually. They seem like more trouble, to me.

Thanks folks! I'll definitely be checking Blender out at some point. There's a lot of ideas that I have floating around in my head that need to be made into reality

The resin that I ordered only just arrived yesterday so I have only just got my first test print started a few moments ago but once I have a feel for the machine I will start churning out some models!

When in doubt, go slower.

Slow was indeed the key, my first print didn't work but once I gave the machine a bit more time to work on the bottom layer it turned out great!





Started off by trying out some terrain as I figured it would be quite forgiving and any mistakes could be written off as battle damage. Still needs a little cleanup but I am very impressed with the details that it managed to capture. I definitely will not be relying on the printer for all my terrain needs as it is very time consuming (these two parts took a little under 6 hours to print) but I have a whole pile of files downloaded for titan and knight accessories that I am really excited to get started on.

Thanks guys! Yeah the learning curve wasn't too bad to be honest. I still have a lot of little tricks to figure out but I am sure that will come with time.

Printed off a bit of a train next, worked perfectly and it should make a nice bit of moveable terrain once I get some tracks made for it.





I currently have some bits to make yet another alternative knight pattern printing up because I clearly don't have enough of those already!

Couple more bits made, the baneblade and shuttle turned out great. Both are probably going to end up on the base of a titan when I finally get around to working on them.



The Lucius Pattern Knight on the other hand did not work for a couple of reasons, firstly, it's a little big so if I were to print another one I would probably make it 20% smaller to match with a plastic knight. I also did not add enough supports to the model while printing it as well it seems since it warped a little bit and missed out some details.

That being said, I am sure I will find a use for the parts as they are, when in doubt, destroy it and put it on a base!

I've been trying out some larger scale projects with the printer lately, mainly a three-legged titan which was a massive challenge to make due to all the smooth and cylindrical surfaces that the printer absolutely hated making. Regardless, I finally got the big boy all built up and cleaned and the end result was pretty good. A coat of paint will do wonders to cover up any mistakes and it should add some unique flavour to my fledgling army!







I also made a few Armiger knights and a Valkyrie when I had a big of space on the printer. Gonna have to start painting this stuff before I get overwhelmed!

Very cool projects! Is that titan 6mm scale as well? That train is also MASSIVE.
