Tell me, is Itkovius named after Itkovian?

Yep, named after itkovian. No one does names like Erickson, Anomander Rake has got to be the best fantasy name around. Love the Malazan books.

He obviously has a scheme for the construction of names for each culture he writes about. I would say that for 90% of his chacters you can tell where they are from simply from the name.
I have a Dark Elf Blood Bowl team named Kharkanas Darkness, and all of the players are named after Tiste Andii. My blitzers are the three brothers plus Spinnock, my line elfs are Nimander's little group, Korya Delath is my runner, Sandalath Drukorlat is my first Witch Elf and Korlat will be my second. Phaed and Clip will be my assassins. Might start Edur/Pro Elf and Liosan/High Elf teams too. Maybe humans/Bridgeburners and Ogre/Toblakai!

The arbiter looks very cool, I might have missed this but, do you have a non-painted picture of him? Interested in how the conversion was done

Sure, here he is: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/438067-Arbitor%20Itkovious.html?m=2

Bonus points if you can tell where the shoulder pad came from. I was so happy to find it in my bits box.

Probably a Judge Dredd model?

I just realised... that figure looks a bit like a tooled-up Devlin Waugh. Have you considered a version in a vest with smart trousers and bracers, smoking a cigarello?

Nope not a Dredd model, despite being a fan of Dredd I didn't take any further influences from 2000ad. My main idea for him was that in these warbands we get a lot of devious and intelligent Inquisitors and a lot of brawn types and rarely much in between. I think Itkovious is a smart guy but he doesn't have the head for this business that an Inquisitor does. He just can't figure out the subtleties of it all and it frustrates him. He's an over-achiever type, graduated top in Arbite School and following a proud family tradition but annoyed that the murky grey world of the Inquisitors doesn't mesh with his black and white viewpoints.

Finished the Arbite for my Inq28 gang. I might go back and smarten up a few things (like the bases for one) on my models if I have time, just want to get them all done to a good standard first.

The Adeptus Arbite Wojek Itkovius was 'suggested' to Inquisitor Tsengir as a permanent member of his retinue by Lord Valthor. Itkovius is Valthor's man and resolute in his duty - to him there is only the certainty of right and wrong and if he can't categorise something easily he struggles to make sense of it. Although not a stupid man he knows he is not astute enough to understand the situation he has found himself in, nor does he truly know if Tsengir is a friend, an enemy, a madman or a genius. He takes his work and his assignment seriously, and makes no secret of reporting to Lord Valthor but his reports lack much critical substance. He praises Tsengir even as he worries that he is being mocked or used. For his part, Tsengir has warmed to Itkovius as he likes the man's simple nature, appreciates his difficult position, and he knows he is dependable in combat.

Great overall mini - that riot shield is freakin' sexy all beat up with the hazard stripes. And when you say "fix the bases", what do you mean? I think his looks pretty good...?

Or do you mean go back and try and revise them like PDH's? Kinda hanging over the edge but connected even on the bottom? A base, and not a pedestal. (... I've been trying to do the same thing on a more-limited scale)

I'll do the bases the same but with a bit more care and attention put into them. I can never be bothered with the base because I just want to stick the model to it and see what it looks like. I'll finish the group and then spend a bit of time sprucing the bases up I think. I don't like the arbite's base in particular as the edge is too much of a step and the bottle is crap.

Yep it's from the original Marneus Calgar, good eye.

That's a marvelous model, Bruticus! He looks like he's just about ready for anything! Fantastic job!

Oh, and that bottle would immediately be 100% less crap if you painted it in a darker green and added some gloss varnish, I believe. Just sayin...

Anyway, looking forward to your next update!

Once, Inquisitor Tsengir would stop at nothing to prevent the spread of corruption in the Imperium - chasing it down at its roots, following up leads across the stars and persecuting the heretic at every opportunity. The events of Sanctus IV changed his outlook dramatically: a Xeno attack killed his friend and former mentor, Inquisitor Tissembellackis and a chest wound, though repaired with a bionic, left him in constant pain. While recovering from his wounds, Tsengir decided that his life should not be wasted simply responding to threats, and that more proactive action was needed.

He believes his mission now is to find a permanent solution to the great threats of Chaos and the escalation of Xeno activity - a weapon of legend destined to change the fate of the Imperium and to be his personal legacy. He chases all rumours about doomsday devices, biological weapons, cosmic technologies from the lost ages of fallen civilisations, prophecies of vengeful alien gods... nothing is beyond his scrutiny. He believes that the Imperium is beset on all sides and fighting a war that it can only lose and only extreme action can save it. He is no longer concerned about being branded a radical, or being mocked by his peers for his lack of success in finding results. He sympathises with Xanthanites whom he believes have come to the same conclusion he has, but he does not share in their methods of exploiting the Warp.

Other inquisitors may resent him for failing to deal with circumstances that should have been in his remit, for wasting resources and for having dealings with Xenos that many would claim were heretical. A student of xeno cultures, Tsengir is a believer in the uncharacteristically pragmatic Eldar philosophy of Belah Aill-Mear (roughly translated as 'The Shortest Path'). Tsengir will work in whatever manner he thinks will benefit him the quickest, regardless of moral or diplomatic complications - often to the chagrin of his peers. His treating with Xeno cultures usually involves trading knowledge or artefacts but sometimes it involves threats, torture and even genocide. The unsanctioned and controversial genocide of the peaceful Xenos Species 0-A231 in the Howling Stars region - thought to be withholding information on the mythical star-eater virus is just one example of how Tsengir will not let anything stand in the way of his personal mission. To enable greater personal freedom away from the scrutiny of the Imperium, Tsengir operates from his personal starship the Ultima Ratio. Some of his critics speculate that Tsengir's personal fortunes may have been augmented through illicit trading of Xeno artefacts, something Tsengir has never deigned to refute.

---

I'm quite pleased with how this paint job has turned out, I may go back and change the base if I have time. I thought turquoise was a suitable colour for an Ordo Xenos inquisitor - it's exotic and mysterious. I know he doesn't fit in with the colour scheme of his crew very well, but he is something of a peacock, and I wanted to show that he is ostentatious and wealthy but also he has better things to do than clean his clothes. I've finally got a new camera but I took this pictures at night which has led to some glare. Oh well.

Very nice work on the cape, I like the turquoise , and the rest I the model is great as well.

Saw stormz log earlier, it's always better to have. Group of guys to play with, brings up the painting skills and pushes each other to one up each other. Hoping to get my brother in law hooked, right now he seems content with borrowing my chaos bloodbowl team to one off game me. Would love to get into a league play. Since we moved here the biggest gaming store moved away, and I haven't made the Time to check out the others.

Cool color gradient you got on his cape, man - AB or by hand? I look closer and it has a fleck-like quality too... either way, it's very pretty. Also, this was the mini I was waiting for you to get some paint on. You've done him justice - the effect on the sword blade is also really nice...

Yeah it was done with an airbrush and then lots of splatter. I had no plan for colours but then as I sat down to paint I just had a strong urge to fade turquoise into bleached bone, lovely colour combination.

Beautiful weathering on the cloak, and the fade on the sword is wonderful. He really looks like an 'ends justify the means' gent as well, so you've really pulled off the character.

I absolutely love Itkovius' background, by the way - such an interesting personality to have in Tsengir's retinue. Black and white in a sea of grey - like a slightly less radical 40k Javert. His shield is my favourite part of the model - almost heraldic pattern, but with an aquilla and hazard stripes. Ace!

Huh I've just realised I might have based his personality somewhat on Javert, oh well - I really like Javert I just can't get on with all that singing. I liked the idea of what would happen when you take someone who has mastered their profession (and Arbite is a pretty hardcore profession) and then put them in a situation where the rules have changed, the pond is bigger and murkier and they are no longer in control. Often this sort of character is a villain or a fool but I don't think Itkovious is either really. So I guess, basically Javert in space.

The model I originally conceived as a rogue trader got a fairly drastic makeover. It was a happy accident really as I had this head left over from another project and it just seemed to work so well. I have to admit I am really happy with this model, and it works well in the group as it is dynamic while the other guys are quite static. I'll start painting her tonight I think, the basic idea is that she is a noblewoman and death cultist, recruited by Tsengir and eagerly seeking new and unusual opponents to prove herself against. I have the rest of her story but will save that for the painted model.

Wow I'm impressed with how well you put all those bits together in to a very dramatic pose. I can see that the upper body is isabella von carstein, where are the legs and arms from?

That's a great kitbash bruticus. Not a criticism, but the legs look a little plain compared to the detail on her head, chest and arms. Will you be doing something special with painting them or are you drawing attention towards the top half? I could be wrong since everyone is noticing her heels after all.
