G'day all

Wasn't really sure where else to post this, but figured I'd just make the post and see what responses I get. I'm trying to get my dad into wargames but he's finding a fair few of them a bit too complex. Games like 40k and kill team and bolt action all sit on the side of a touch too complex for him to grasp easily, but games like age of sigmar and other such things he doesn't really get into (he leans more into realistic settings), so I'm trying to find out any info on any wargames at all that are on the simpler side.

Thanks y'all

You could try One Page Rules Grimdark Future, it is a simplified 40K system. I am going to be getting complete newbies into gaming and that is my planned choice.

I am sure there are some pretty simple historical games out there too, and if he likes realism that might be more up his alley. I will leave it to others to suggest them - I like Hail Caesar, but I don't think it is particularly simple.

A couple of suggestions:

Modern setting, Mantic's Walking Dead. Its faction v faction v zombies, easy to play. If your dad doesnt dig the zombies element just do faction v faction (Walking Dead Call to Arms comes out soon and focus's on this)

Near future, Terminator Genesis. This is more military vs terminators but if your dad doesnt like the terminators then it can easily be played as humans v humans. Alot of scope to use tanks or apache choppers. It also has many 'real world' weapons so there is that element of familiarity. i believe it is also discontinued and has been on clearance for awhile so probably going to be pretty cheap. Bonus if dad likes the terminator moofies

How about board games?

WW2 - Memoir 44. great game, easy to learn and fun to play, very light rules but also with some tactical depth. Great introductary game with many expansions. You can play it online as well to see if you like it.

Hope some of those helps

Wings of Glory and GF9:Tanks.

both are small games, both are fairly easy to learn and both are historical.
might be a tad hard to find tough as they are old games. (WoG has prepainted planes and thus the reason for its cost)

For a pretty simple sci-fi wargame that's still lots of fun, I would suggest Steve Jackson's Ogre. The current 6th edition has both large-sized, easy to read counters and press together 3d effect Ogres.
