I'm nearly ready to begin painting my first Forge World Death Guard Contemptor Dreadnought. However I'm torn between painting it in heresy era "white" or 40k era Death Guard Green. Looking around the net for examples shows that Green Contemptors are really rare, but some people do paint them that way.

The rest of my Death Guard army is painting in the "default" 40k colour scheme of Death Guard Green, which means that on the one hand it would be nice to have a change but on the other it would be nice to have it look like a cohesive army.

Yes I know that basically I can do whatever I like, but what I'm wondering is is there any fluff about the colour schemes? I'm sure I'm going to wish I'd gone the the other way whichever colour I chose, but at least I won't have fluff irritating me if I later discover there's an in universe explanation or having one or the other.

I’m not sure if the fluff, but you could paint it white and then airbrush/blend death guard green on top, make it look like it’s being ‘infected’?

See that stuff above? Completely true. All of it, every single word. Stands to reason.

There's nothing in the fluff against either version.
On the one hand, the Death Guard Legion was infected with the Destroyer plague on their way to terra and from there on turned green.
On the other hand the codex shows all kinds of color schemes, so apparently in 10K years the DG vectors evolved different paths and got different colors.

Another approach would be making up warp-stuff. That Contemptor might be from before the destroyer plague and travelled through time.
