Total Imperial Guard newbie here.

I am looking to start my third army and I decided to go with guard, namely Tempestus Scions because i love the models.
Now I have not come across a single guard army to play against in 8th so I honestly don't know what to expect from them ( my local club mainly has Marine, Admech+Knight, Death guard and Chaos soup players)

This is the army i came up with after an hour or two's research (aka browsing 1d4chan) before bed.

My priority so far has been Narrative - > Rule of cool - > synergies and to finish it of i now need some solid advice on the competitive side as well.
I am not going to win an ITC game with this list and that is not the intention, I do however want to be able to take a couple of games off my mates while looking cool doing so.

I also need help shaving off ONE point from 2001 to 2000.

CC much appreciated as this is a list in the earliest of developments!

This does look fun.
the 7 scion squad has a lot of extra points in it, that you could spread over the other squads if they were all 5 men with each 2 hsvg. Giving you better anti MEQ dakka, and the option of using your two commanders to give the reroll wounds order on several squads the second round.
Agaisnt stuff like eldar spam of any sort, or ravengaurd, or stygies, long range plasma weaponry starts to not be so great if its not in the drop troop strategem, but the HSVG keeps on ticking.

You would have 11 total points left over, which in a gaurd army is enough to give the gift of dakka.
Each taurox prime can pintle mount a stormbolter for a mere 2 points, putting 4 bs3 st 4 dakka shots out and generating extra shots at ranges below 12.
4 points more than that? put a heavy stubber on two of the backline basilisks.

Boom, you have your exact 2000 points, and your anti-horde is improved.

Thank you very much for the great feedback, i'm going to do exactly as you suggest and round the 7-man down to 5 and spread the dakka around a bit.

I was wondering about the Officer of The Fleet, is he the only way to buff the flyers? I expect the Vendettas will be hovering at max range to have any chance on hitting. The officer will hitch a ride in one of the transports to get within 18" for the reroll 1:s to the 40 Vulture shots.

I will probably not last past round 2 or 3 so i have to hit hard and hope for some good objective cards i think

oof are great, ..reroll 1's for your aircraft, and that's even more important if it lets a few lazcannon bite home. even one such hit, you might degrade something that then isn't so much a threat to high speed flyers. Just remembr when he hops out at speed to roll his chances.

Alternate strategy. Turn 1, both vendetta STAY supersonic, moving 21 inches. Right behind them a valkyrie moves 20 in hover mode so he can safely exit. On the other back side of the mass is a vulture supersonic.

The enemy may target a lot at your stuff, but it will shock you how hard your airtanks are to drop for armies that rely on massed bs4+ instead of a fwe accurate shots. And you have like 64 t7 hp in that mass, nobody is dropping that without taking a lot of shots.
Do not forget that they can't mortal wound characters but they CAN throw a mortal wound attack on any other target 1/game.

Its sometimes useful. Also remember that the hsvg squads can be deepstruck rather than airdropped, to plant them where they are most useful even when the planes are not in positon. They are the exception to the general rule that scion troops at 13 inches are much weaker -- they shoot 8 VG and 2 LG at that range but add only 3 hslg in closer. If a large body of (for example) marine infantry stands ready to auspix scan and shoot you, or even a few of the new infiltrator types are blocking a 12 bubble, its an answer that keeps the scions safe and useful -- where other scions would be in big trouble or half shoots,.
