Barrage is now a memory, with battle reports queuing up for release.
Next is Kozcon! New Jersey’s biggest 25mm L’ Art de la Guerre tournament.
While setting up the frames for this years Kozcon, I found an as-yet-unpublished battle report from Kozcon 2018. Consider it a bonus battlereport for the week
It has everything. Romance, Comedy, Mayhem!
Without further ado, “A Tale of Two States”

Enjoy

“Ultimate excellence lies not in winning every battle, but in defeating the enemy without ever fighting.”

― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

A question. What is the purpose of the casualty markers on the field?

As for naming one's commanders, It's something I do too, so I see nothing odd about it. Indeed, certain named figures have earned a reputation for punching above their weight class, and so cause some mild dismay in my opponents.

In the game, each unit takes from 1-4 hits depending on it's type. Heavy infantry takes 4, Cavalry, Knights, Chariots and Medium foot take 3, lights take 2.
The game describes the casualty counters as color coded, green is 1, yellow 2, red 3, black 4. My opponent was following this schema. Occasionally you see a bit of a green marble behind his disordered units.

I took to using printed chips on postcard stock. They have numbers on them, green 1's, yellow 2's, red 3's and black D's (because 4 is destroyed, no matter what you are) And as a bit of decoration, each chip has fallen equipment in the form of shields and weapons.

The black dead men and horses have zero game play use. They are there for "the Narrative". This is so the reader of the battle report has a good feel for where the action is taking place, and how bloody the battle was. My first casualty markers were red, and that lead to a well measled board. I did this because early battle reports just got emptier and emptier. Showing a picture of a empty space surrounded by enemy troops is a lot less interesting then a body in the middle.

I am also old, and remember the Newhart Show fondly and always understood the naming conventions.

The series finale..... that was a corker! It was right up there with the infamous Dallas season finale with Bobby Ewing in the shower, or the conclusion of ST. Elsewhere.

Drat, I am old!

Thanks for the reply. I'd wondered if there was a game mechanic that effected enemy morale or that your troops had to recover wounded or take a morale hit (that latter mechanism is in the Soldier's Companion).
