Here's a fun list idea I had for the people who really don't want to run a Primaris army*. If 6 Raven Guard Assault Centurions are good, then surely an army full of Centurions is even better?!

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Space Marines) [47 PL, 5CP, 778pts] ++
**Chapter Selection**: Hungry for Battle, Long-range Marksmen, Raven Guard Successor

+ HQ +
Chaplain [5 PL, 90pts]: 6. Canticle of Hate, Bolt pistol, Jump Pack, Litany of Hate
Chapter Master [6 PL, -3CP, 103pts]: Chainsword, Jump Pack, Shadowmaster, Storm shield, Stratagem: Chapter Master, Stratagem: Hero of the Chapter, Teeth of Terra

+ Troops +
Scout Squad [4 PL, 55pts]: 5x Bolter
Scout Squad [4 PL, 55pts]: 5x Bolter
Scout Squad [4 PL, 55pts]: 5x Bolter

+ Heavy Support +
Centurion Devastator Squad [12 PL, 210pts]: 3x Hurricane bolter, Grav cannon
Centurion Devastator Squad [12 PL, 210pts]: 3x Hurricane bolter, Grav cannon

++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Imperium - Space Marines) [75 PL, 4CP, 1,215pts] ++

+ HQ +
Librarian in Phobos Armour [5 PL, 101pts]: 2) Enveloping Darkness, 4) Shadowstep, Camo cloak, Force sword
Primaris Lieutenants [4 PL, -1CP, 69pts]: Master of Ambush, Power sword, Stratagem: Master of the Tri-Fold Path, Swift and Deadly, Warlord

+ Troops +
Scout Squad [4 PL, 55pts]: 5x Bolter
Scout Squad [4 PL, 55pts]: 5x Bolter
Scout Squad [4 PL, 55pts]: 5x Bolter

+ Elites +
Apothecary [3 PL, 50pts]
Apothecary [3 PL, 50pts]
Centurion Assault Squad [16 PL, 312pts]: 6x Hurricane bolter, flamers
Centurion Assault Squad [16 PL, 260pts]: 5x Hurricane bolter, flamers
Centurion Assault Squad [16 PL, 208pts]: 4x Hurricane bolter, flamers

++ Total: [122 PL, 9CP, 1,993pts] ++

1 unit of Cents can be Ambushed up, the 2nd Infiltrate forwards, the smaller 3rd unit can SftS to come in turn 2. That still leaves maybe 6cp for midgame use. Meanwhile all the supporting chars can run up to stay in buff range, give advance and charge boosts, turn off overwatches, and heal back up. I was sorely tempted to make all those guys Stealthy too, but decided on Long Range Marksmen and hoping for some midfield cover they can hide behind.

*yes I used 2 Primaris, but they could be downgraded to normals.

Edit: changed dev Hbs to grav. Had forgotten they were same cost now.

looks interesting.

One problem i'm seeing with this list is a lack of high power ranged firepower. You have a lot of bolters, but against a vehicle heavy army you may struggle, especially at 2000 points when opponents can bring out the big tanks.

In a paired down list at lower points this could really hurt opponents but I think you need to forego the heavy bolters and go for grav with your devastator centurions.

Yeah, I was just going for loading up a list with max Cents without being unplayably short on cp and troops and didn’t worry much on loadout, but I actually don’t think it’d be too bad as a base for a list...It’s basically like a dreadbash list except can start further forwards than dreads can and get a lot more anti horde shots.

It basically is a dreadbash.

Against Tyranids or Orks it would have a nice time until close combat.

I dunno, I think I’d be more afraid of Eldar flyers. Mass str 6 high ap and no way to charge them. Would have to hurricane them down.
Edit: Heh, I ran the numbers assuming needing a 5 to hit with rerolls and each hurricane can do about 1.1 wounds, so with 21 hurricanes and the scouts this could hypothetically down up to 2 planes a turn anyways.

Well, there’s no way I’m buying this many Cents to try out, but I wish I could.

If you change the Dev Centurion to grav instead of Heavy Bolter, you would get some better results against most vehicles and Monstrous creatures.

Horde should not be a problem with that many Hurricane bolters and flamers. Even on the receiving end of a charge, flamers will do some work especially if you play Successor Chapter with Legendary Marksman.

Praise the emperor, bless your weapon and pass the ammo!

Yup, changed. Though if making this into a real list I’d prob just cut the grav devs entirely. 3 Stalkers could be good since flying targets are among the lists weakest points. And any AT that goes into a Stalker is not 1 shotting a Cent, so that’s good.

Dev centurions are always more useful than assault centurions IMO.
There are other units that do assault better than assault centurions, while Dev centurions are actually a very good unit now.

I been kicking centurion ideas for ravengaurd around ever since I started playing marines (which was, I confess, roughly 2 week ago, so I probably still suck.).
But it appears to me you could have a 6 man squad of missle/lascannon dev cent for a mere 660 points, by getting rid of your gravy gun centurions and 3 of the assault ones. (and spending 2 of your leftover points).
Drop the 5 man centurion blob .. you now have a very ffocused 6 dev antiarmor group and a very focused 6 assault anti-anything, and you can buy your scouts a bunch of missle launchers, storm bolters, and cloaks, to turn them from tax units into something more like midfield support. (222 poitns gets you some decent firepower and much better survivability with 3+ saves in -1 to hit cover, and the pack of them together can drop six krak missles or as much as 108 anti horde dakka into the foe.
