Could anyone who is familiar with magnetizing point me in the direction of where to find and which size magnets would be appropriate for largish items like tau mechs (riptides, broadsides etc).

I tired searching through the forums but my search fu is weak....sorry.

Just measure the contact points in millimeters and buy them on Amazon. I use 5x1mm magnets for most things and bigger ones like an 8x3 for heavy stuff like turrets.

Should've magnetized the back pack as well because it's backwards.

Yeah I'm pretty sure backpack was not magnetized because it has a hole and peg
