Hi !

I've read some here and there some old discussion about the Skaven Warlock Engineer in 6th.
It usually speaks about their capacity to cast Warp Lightning, but on the life on me re-reading the Army Book I can see how it is possible.

The warlock is a lvl 1 wizard who does not know any spell.
He can buy some bound spell objects but that's all I saw.

Any help ?

Ok, from memory you have to buy warp accumulators or some such. The wargear you give them provides bound spells to use.

Please note that you can take them without for a VERY cheap character you can use as a sacrifice.

Though in 6th Skryre Army of Doom was the thing.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

One of the things I really disliked about Skaven was the lack of a Hero level Wizard. I don't like having my one Lord choice at 2,000 points tied up in an expensive Grey Seer when I'd rather have a kitted out combat Warlord. Eventually I'll chase down the 12 copies of Island of Blood/Spire of Dawn, and I'll have to figure out how to make it workable. Just accept having less to do in the Magic Phase than Dwarfs, or run Engineers.

I never saw SAD as lacking in magic.

Skaven did benefit from the return to percentage based list making, you should afford a Warlord and Grey Seer.

6th, dude. 6th. We've been over that.

I know that magic spam in 6th was a thing, but I stick with reliable stuff. Too much random in that phase and not enough damage. Maybe I'll do enough damage to cost them 1 rank bonus, but I can do that with shooting.

Skaven magic, unreliable? lol It seems unreliable at first glance, but it's not really. A plague priest with libre bubonicus and the warlock engineer, you've got two decently powerful hero level mages with good spells. Pair with a Seer blasting Plague which can level a unit and Death Frenzy, both of which can change the tide of a game if played well and you've got yourself a crazy strong army.

I actually haven't played my Skaven army in a long time due to how powerful they are all around with a Skyre list. I have since built a Lustria Plague list, Hellpit, and a SoC Eshin list which I haven't tried yet, but they look to be decent. All around, I haven't found Skaven weak in any way.

Vampire Counts 12,000 pts Tomb Kings 5,000 pts
Skaven 9,500 pts Ogre Kingdoms 7,000 pts
High Elves 8,800 pts
Bretonnia 8,000 pts
Empire 7,500 pts Lizardmen 6,000 pts
Dwarfs 10,000 pts Chaos 18,500 pts
Wood Elves 10,000 pts Dark Elves 7,000 pts
Orcs and Goblins 9,500 pts Dogs of War 5,000 pts.
