Essentially, r/40k lore went a little bit mad and banned Arch Warhammer from even being mentioned on the sub. I've got no time for him personally, but they lack any evidence of him being any of the things they said, and are actively breaking their own rules whole slagging him off.

At least DakkaDakka moderation is honest and abides by its own rules. Reddit is quickly going down the pan and if anyone can't see the very slippery slope something like this creates causing a community to fall apart, then look no further than r/40k lore.

I mean, we got some pretty bad people on dakkadakka who arent even close to being banned.

I have no idea who Arch Warhammer is, nor do I frequent /r/40klore, however the Warhammer communities on Reddit (and in particular some of their moderators) have long been known as particularly high drama, and this sounds relatively tame compared to some of the more aggressively psychopathic behavior displayed by the /r/warhammer subreddit mods. I cut out Reddit entirely a year or two ago and haven't felt anything of value was lost, particularly anything news and warhammer related.

The chans offer humorous content and sometimes discussion. Reddit is only good for /r/nottheonion and the great gak posting ones like Grimdank (you're welcome), Berserklejerk, DeepFriedMemes, etc.

I also use it for Mobile Legends but the posters aren't really offering much in value right now because everyone is complaining about the OP heroes being released (and rightfully so).

Agreed, I rate Reddit only a hair above Twitter and YouTube comments. All are structurally really best suited to posting a pic and a quick small comment or two, and are really poor tools for anything more than that, inevitably driving awful behavior.

That used to be where people would go to metaphorically piss all over everything anonymously to get it out of their system...but then the people who liked the taste of piss showed up and took over...

I mean you can think about Arch what you want or disagree with him on a fundamental level, but his lore vidoes are preety good.

I know nothing of the event, but the descriptions in this thread are making me chuckle.

I watch some of his videos here and there. He's clearly a right leaning person who an anti SJW agenda and perspective. That's fine. It's just as fine as a left leaning person with an anti conservative agenda and perspective. They both have every right to profess their beliefs and thoughts on their own channel. I have heard Arch be accused of being a racist,sexist white supremacist and the like, but from watching his videos I don't see anything that would merit him being banned or substantiate either of those claims.

I am aware that on reddit there does tend to be a left leaning bias and maybe that applies to the mods who disagree with him so much that they decided to ban him.

I guess in an Ork video he compared Gretchin to Jews, which is probably not ok lol. Didn't verify, I don't care to scan through videos to find it, but it seems like something that would be hard to lie about (the internet being the internet)

Well, I actually do go to a couple subReddits from time to time, where people post actual content and not try to engage in "discussion." That last part is where it, generally, quickly becomes a total loss.

I actually met my wife on Twitter. But that doesn't make it an ideal place to do that, or an ideal place to try to have serious dialogue. It's a sort of "race to the bottom" with all of these places, which is, to me, a side effect of any and all "social media," unless directly, consciously steered in other directions, collectively, by the users themselves. The whole nature of the endeavor unfortunately incentives what in "real life" are things one would almost never actually do or say to other human beings.

I guess I am a bit "overly" Heideggerian in thinking along the lines of technology as a sort of revealing. And further, as these sort of things also as mirrors. In this sense, what "goes in" and "comes out" are both paradoxically distorted and essentially revelatory aspects of our "selves." Or something like that, I'm not really smart enough to fully elucidate that, maybe mostly because it is probably nonsense to some degree or other.

He was pretty good in his lore videos, then he started rolling his R's like a old English aristocrat intentionally very often that puts me off listening, so I started listening to someone else.

His other videos are ok, he does come off as racist in his deliverance and tone. To say China is gak and never been there is a bit of a hypocrite.

Concerning the Hong Kong issue: most of the people there are paying up the ass for a tiny living space, unlivable conditions if you ask me, a change needs to happen; the riots are cause by the expedited transition of that change imo.

Altough i personally feel like the race to the bottom has to do more with the percived annonimity of the users. Percieved mostly because they are not in person there so they lose all manners.

Hongkong imo is more of an 1848 situation, as in alot of grievencas and the poweder keg has been lit by the Chinese puppet.

In an attempt at comedy I can see the attempt. That's kind of what a comic entertainer does is poke fun at people and is often times talking in terms of being offensive and that is not a problem in of itself. I can make clearly racist black jokes and have a good laugh at them without being racist. The joke could be bad, the joke could be good, but it still falls under free speech and I don't find it ban worthy personally. However if the community has very specific rules (Stupid rules or great rules) and those are violated however they have the fair ability to ban someone.

See how does one come off as racist in deliverance and tone? Snoody? Uppity? Pompous? Sure I can see that, but racist? I don't hear anything racist. Also saying some place is bad without being there does not in any way make you a hypocrite. I don't need to go to the poorest neighborhoods in the US to tell you that they're bad and I wouldn't want to live there. To a western person's sensibilities China is a terrible place as far as personal freedoms and liberties go.

I went to a high school that was very racially diverse and we all made tons of racist jokes and things that were offensive, but everyone involved was laughing and trading fair blows. There was no anger, hate or racism. One of the teachers recognized it as breaking down racial barriers by making a joke out of differences. That's what comedy helps to do. Not everyone has to agree or see it the same way and that's totally fine, but it doesn't automatically make someone racist. Is anyone who makes an offensive joke racist, sexist, and any other manner of nasty buzz words? I wouldn't think so. Is a black person who laughs at a joke directed at the black community racist?

How does laughing at a racist or offensive joke make someone a bigot? It doesn't. It can have correlation sure. Someone who IS a racist bigot will very likely laugh at a joke that is at another groups expense, but that does not mean everyone who laughs is a bigot. Someone who would also likely laugh is someone who is able to look at a joke as a joke and enjoy the humor in it.

TBH he basically just reads the wiki pages. He doesn't know the lore in dept like other guys , for example ProphetofSothek.

And he when too much into the alt-right bandwagon sprinkling his videos with a ton of political subtexts. I mean if you want to do that, do it, but having a proper lore channel transform in something so political is no bueno.
